PREPARING TO SEW – SPECIFYING THE MULTIHOOP POINTS

Specifying the needle entry points is the way the sewing machine receives the
information it needs to stitch the design elements in correct position. Only three needle points are needed to accomplish this. Two on the Y-axis line (points A and B), and one on the X-axis line (point C).

Specifying Point A on the Y-axis line:
1. Touch on screen at one end of the vertical line to move the frame.
2. Turn handwheel to check that needle touches the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
3. If needle is not directly on the vertical line, use the Position Keys on the sewing machine screen to move the needle until it is directly over the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
4. When needle is in correct position, press the Position Memory key on screen, to register this first point.

Specifying Point B on the Y-axis line:
1. Touch on screen at the opposite end of the vertical line to move the frame.
2. Turn handwheel to check that needle touches the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
3. If needle is not directly on the vertical line, use the Position Keys on the sewing machine screen to move the needle until it is directly over the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
4. When needle is in correct position, press the Position Memory key on screen to register this second point.

Specifying Point C on the X-axis line:
1. Touch on screen at the opposite end of the horizontal line on either side to move the frame.
2. Turn hand wheel to check that needle touches the horizontal line drawn on the fabric.
3. If needle is not directly on the horizontal line, use the Position Keys on the sewing machine screen to move the needle until it is directly over the horizontal line drawn on the fabric.
4. When the needle is in correct position, press the Position Memory key on screen to register this third point.
5. When stitching is complete, press OK.
6. Remove fabric and press fabric after sewing design. Set embroidered piece aside.

7. Put the Organdy ribbon with two pieces of Sol-U-Web® stabilizer underneath it, in the continuous hoop, centering the ribbon in the hoop and having the top edge of the ribbon extending out approximately 2”. Adjust the guide of the hoop so that the ribbon is in the center of the hoop.
8. Sew out the pattern.
9. When the pattern is finished sewing, press Ok to sew the pattern again.
10. Release the clamp on the hoop, slide the fabric strip backwards, until the needle sits in the base of the positioning “V” and the right edge even with the guide of the hoop. Re-clamp the hoop.
11. The number of lace borders to be sewn out will be determined by how big your box lid is and the circumference of the lid.
12. Remove the fabric from the hoop.
13. Remove the stabilizer from the fabric and clip the jump stitches.
14. Press. Cut away the excess ribbon on both sides of the lace design. Set aside.

8. Sew out the pattern.
9. When the pattern is finished sewing, press Ok to sew the pattern again.

Sewing Procedure (Gold silk dupioni bow)
1. Remove embroidery unit and embroidery foot and replace with regular arm and standard presser foot.
2. With the 2½” x 36” piece of fabric folded in half lengthwise, stitch together with a 5/8” seam. Turn inside out. Press. Do not turn the ends to the inside and stitch until determining how long the bow on the box lid should be.

FINISHING
Embroidery (Victorian Shoe)
1. Remove the stabilizer from embroidered piece.
2. Draw another line around the original marked line, approximately the length of the trim of the lid, minus 1/8”.
3. Trim around the outer marking line. Clip around the edge close to the inside marking. See illustration 2.

4. Lightly spray the lid of the box with an adhesive spray as well as the side of the lid. Place the fabric on the lid and rim so it sticks to box lid. Make sure to not overspray, as it will saturate the fabric piece. It also works well to use a glue gun. Optional: line the lid with fabric if desired.

Border Trim around the Rim of the Lid (5” x 27” Gold silk dupioni)
Fold each side of embroidered border piece to the wrong side, making sure it is wide enough to cover the rim of the box lid. Overlap slightly and glue border piece to rim of box. The overlap should be centered to the back side of box rim.

Lace Trim around the Rim of the Lid (White organza ribbon)
1. Glue the lace to the bottom edge of the rim of box on top of the embroidered border piece that was just glued onto the rim. Try and not overlap the lace if possible. The lace should hang over the box itself. See illustration 3:

2. Glue the extra lace to the top of lid and glue bow on lid as in Illustration 4:

3. Cut fabric piece so it fits the box. (Measure the height of the box to determine how wide to cut fabric, plus 2”. One inch on top to lap over to the inside of box and one inch to lap over the bottom of box. The length will be determined by measuring the circumference of box, plus enough fabric to turn end and lap over slightly. Optional: Glue a lining to the inside of box if desired.
