Description
This Topiary Chair Accessory Piece can be draped over a favorite chair and be the conversation piece in any room! Rose Topiary and a Lace design are embroidered on the chair accessory piece, using the Multiple Hoop feature. Some of the beautiful built-in designs in the QUANTUM® XL-5000 are also used in the sample. The finished size is approximately 13” x 36”.
Materials Needed

18” x 40” piece of velveteen

18” x 40” lining fabric
- Two
pieces of 9” x 15” medium weight tear-away pellon
- Spray

wide off-white organdy ribbon (2½ yards)

Instructions
At
the Computer:
1. Place floppy disk with digitized design into computer.
2. Go to File: New.
3. Open image box appears: Click on New.
4. New box appears. Click down arrow. Select:
SINGER® XL-5000 Multiple 250x450.
Click OK.
5. In horizontal tool bar, click on Utilities.
Drop down menu appears. Select: SINGER®
XL-5000 Multiple 250x450. Click OK.
6. Go to File: Paste Design.
7. Open design box appears. Click on the down arrow. Select:
3½ Floppy (A:).
8. File type: PSW Design (PSW).
9. Click on Rose Topiary. Click OK.
10. Image appears in Multiple Hoop. Right click. Finish.
11. In horizontal tool bar, click on Modify: Dimensions.
Click on % box. In X: box,
type 95. Click OK.
12. Place SINGER® Memory Card No. IX
in converter box. Click on Read from Converter.
Click on ROM. Select Row 8,
last row, and Stitch 3. Open.
13. In horizontal tool bar, go to Modify: Dimensions.
14. Select right rotation arrow. Type in 315.
Click OK.
15. In left vertical toolbar, go to Select
icon.
In horizontal toolbar, go to Select All icon.

16. Move cursor in center of design. Right click. Copy.
17. Go to original window with the Multiple Hoop. In horizontal
tool bar, select Stop. 
18. In horizontal tool bar, select Paste.
Click and drag design below the rose topiary. Center design.
Right click. Finish.
19. In horizontal tool bar, select Modify: Center
design.
Sending Design to Smart Media Card:
20. Click
on File: Write using Multiple hoop.
21. The multiple hoop design is now ready to be sent to the
Smart Media card.
22. Click the left mouse to select the first section, which
is the Rose Topiary.
23. Click the left mouse to select the first section.

24. After surrounding the section, click the right mouse.
A color box will appear at top of the screen.
25. Click the left mouse on each color that will be in the
first part of the design to be saved to the Smart Media Card.
26. Click the right mouse to activate the function.
27. A box appears that tells the design has been stored.
28. Do the same steps for the lace design below the rose topiary.
29. In the horizontal tool bar, click on the Write
Multiple hoop data to card. A box appears on the
screen.
30. Double click on Smart Media.
31. Double click on Save in New Page.
32. Once design has been saved to the card, click OK.
33. In the vertical tool bar, click on Select
icon.
34. In the horizontal tool bar, click on Select All
icon.
35. Click right mouse. Click on Delete.
36. Press the Escape key on the keyboard.
Fabric
Preparation:
37. Fold the velveteen piece in half lengthwise. Mark an X
and Y line on lower half of fabric, using
a marking pencil. See illustration:

Preparing
QUANTUM® XL-5000 Sewing Machine:
38. While
sewing machine is off, install the embroidery unit.
39. Attach the embroidery foot, and then turn machine on.
40. Press anywhere on screen to begin.
41. Press OK for carriage to move and center
itself.
Building
the Design Layout:
42. Insert
the Smart Media card from the Converter Box and insert in
the QUANTUM® XL-5000.
43. Press Smart Media Card icon.
44. Press the first box on screen. First design appears on
screen. Press the design on screen. Press OK,
then Enter.
45. Press Smart Media Card icon.
46. Press the second box on screen. Second design appears
on screen. Press the design on screen. Press OK.
47. Enter the designs. In the lower right hand corner, touch
OK key.
Selecting
an Area to Begin Embroidering:
49. Use
the arrow keys to move the “Hoop” on screen, to
select the 1st area to be embroidered. Press OK.
50. Place stabilizer in hoop and spray adhesive. Place fabric
so X and Y axis lines drawn on the fabric are set in the hoop
in similar placement to the display on screen.
51. Place hoop and fabric onto the embroidery unit. Press
OK.
Preparing to Sew – Specifying the Multihoop Points:
Specifying
the needle entry points is the way the sewing machine receives
the information it needs to stitch the design elements in
correct position. Only three needle points are needed to accomplish
this. Two on the Y axis line (points A and B), and one on
the X-axis (point C).
Specifying
Point A on the Y-axis line:
52. Touch
on screen at one end of the vertical line, to move the frame.
53. Turn hand wheel to check that needle touches the vertical
line drawn on the fabric.
54. If needle is not directly on the vertical line, use the
Position Keys on the sewing machine screen, to move the needle
until it is directly over the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
55. When needle is in correct position, press the Position
Memory key on screen, to register this first point.
Specifying
Point B on the Y-axis line:
56. Touch
on screen at the opposite end of the vertical line, to move
the frame.
57. Turn hand wheel to check that needle touches the vertical
line drawn on the fabric.
58. If needle is not directly on the vertical line, use the
Position Keys on the sewing machine screen, to move the needle
until it is directly over the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
59. When needle is in correct position, press the Position
Memory key on screen, to register this second point.
Specifying
Point C on the X-axis line:
60. Touch
on screen at the opposite end of the vertical line, to move
the frame.
61. Turn hand wheel to check that needle touches the vertical
line drawn on the fabric.
62. If needle is not directly on the vertical line, use the
Position Keys on the sewing machine screen, to move the needle
until it is directly over the vertical line drawn on the fabric.
63. When the needle is in correct position, press the Position
Memory key on screen, to register this third point.
Preparing to Sew Next Area of Design Layout:
64. When
stitching is complete, press OK on screen
to proceed to the next design element in the layout.
65. Use the Arrow Keys on screen, to move the “Hoop”
and select the next area to be sewn; Press OK.
66. Place
stabilizer in hoop and spray adhesive. Place fabric in hoop
so X and Y lines drawn on the fabric are set in the hoop in
similar placement to the display on screen.
67. Press fabric after sewing second element in the Multiple
Hoop.
68. Once the multiple hoop design is sewn out, place the organdy
ribbon 1” from the outside stitching of the design.

69. Turn machine off. Remove embroidery unit and embroidery
foot and replace with the regular arm and regular presser
foot (or open-toe foot).
70. Turn machine on. Touch screen.
71. Topstitch the ribbon on fabric with the straight stitch.
72. Go to the Pink screen. Then go to Folder 3, Row 1, Stitch
4.
72. Sew this design on both sides of the ribbons.
73. Touch the ABC icon in the lower right
hand corner of screen. Go to the gold screen. Folder 4, Row
2, Stitch 3.
74. Sew over the ribbon on both sides.
75. With marking pencil, mark a line 2 inches from the lace
design, creating a “V”.

76. Cut on line.
77. Using the front embroidered piece, cut a lining.
78. With right sides together, sew the embroidered piece and
lining together on all four sides, leaving a 3” opening
on top.
79. Turn right side out. Slip stitch opening.
