Purchased this sewing machine to replace my precious one. I've been sewing since the late 1950's, always with Singer. My new machine meets my sewing needs. It's cost was great. Good machine for general sewers.

I do a lot of household sewing. Altering clothes, making curtains, tablecloths. Love the self threader! Stitches faster than my previous machine which is great when making table cloths.

Great Machine

I just recently purchased this machine and absolutely could not be more pleased. It is easy to use, strong, and its stitches beautifully. Even though it is heavier, I think this machine will be the new featherweight as far as quilters are concerned.

Needle threader doesnt work

Overall Rating:

25 out of 25 people found this helpful.

I am very happy overall with the machine and the buttonholer is wonderful. However the self threader quit working after one week. I have tried to adjust the tiny wire and failed. This is the only option to correct the issue according to cutomer support.
I have had two other very inexpensive machines with a threading devices that never failed over years of use.

A nice machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Lighting

I like this machine. It does see smoothly although the heavy duty performance is not any better than a normal machine. It needs coaxing through thick seams. Of all the machines I researched prior to purchase, this was about the only one without a extended table available for purchase. I had to make my own. I would also have liked the "needle down" capability..it would have made me more satisfied with this machine. Overall, I do like it. It feels more rugged and not cheap plastic.

Sad about my Singer

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

40 out of 43 people found this helpful.

I really was impressed with my machine for the first 3 months. In month four, my machine seemed to have terrible tension problems out of the clear blue. I tried adjusting the tension using the knobs provided, but nothing. I was forced to take my 4-month-old machine to a repair shop because when I contacted Singer, I was told the warranty expired for those parts in 90 days. However, they did note that the plastic case, foot petal and light had a longer warranty, REALLY!!?? that was no help to me. I took it to a repair shop and was told the timing was messed up. The repair expense was $90. It is sad that Singer does not have enough faith in the quality of its own product to give it a longer warranty on all the parts. I had a 25 year old Kenmore prior to this machine and took it to the repair shop at the same time. It needed some basic maintenance and it is back up and running fine. I am now sewing on my old Kenmore and using my Singer as a paper weight. In summary, if you are lucky and your machine does not fall apart after the first 3 months, it is a great machine, but I was not that lucky.

This is the latest addition to my fleet of sewing machines. Bought so my husband could sew leather. He had been sewing the leather by hand and was getting no where. Very easy to use and thread. Sews leather with a teflon foot with no trouble.

I love the solid feel and motor 'humm' on this heavy duty sewing machine. My only wish is that it could easily hole larger spools of thread.

I love my new machine! the speed is phenomenal, it took me a little while to get use to it because I have been using my old Singer for so long, which is a 28/08 which I believe was purchased in 1985 and still works like a charm Singer is all I would ever own. I have had other brands but went back to Singer because of the quality. However my new 4452 will handle all of the heavy work I do now. I bought it for leather work to make a new pair of chaps for riding I haven't found the leather I want yet but I am sure this machine will handle it with out a problem. I find this machine to be very quiet which my husband will love :). The price was great and I was able to find it on sale big smile here. if you are looking for Heavy Duty you will not be disappointed with this one, and it is a Singer you can't go wrong.Looking forward to have this one for 30 plus years.

Love it. I do a lot of basic work, nothing fancy. It is very easy to use, sturdy and dependable. The only thing I would say is it does not take large cone spools of thread, so I have to use a separate thread holder for this. Not really an issue. I am loving it!

The machine has a hard time sewing heavier items, but overall it is a good solid product. It takes a little time to learn the correct settings and technique but I would not choose another brand over the one I bought.

When my 15 year old machine started giving problems, I reviewed Singers online to choose a replacement. I haven't used all the features yet, but I've used several different weights of fabric and it's handled them all equally. Easy to use and seems like it will outlast me!

Used the 4452 to make a canvas cover for the boat. It worked great and with the heavy duty needle, it sewed through the heavy material with ease. I really liked it.

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Sews Thick Fabrics

I have had NO problems with this machine. I bought it to do heavy multiple layer fabrics including dog collars (fabric and web with ribbon or fabric). These can get pretty thick and so far it has not had any problems with the multiple layers. I am happy with this machine.

Love this 4452!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Would Be Nice If The Attachments Were Made Of Metal Instead Of Plastic. Concerned About Their Quality.

The last machine I bought was a Singer Gold'n'Touch in 1967. I believe the 4452 Heavy Duty will be just as reliable. It was very easy to adjust to the differences of the new machine and I have already made several dresses for my granddaughters. Love the 4452!

Buyer Beware!

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

14 out of 14 people found this helpful.

I've had this model just 14 months & am not happy. The first few months it worked okay; but I missed my old machine. After one year of ownership it began to SPEED UP by itself when I pressed the foot pedal and I had NO CONTROL over it. I tried to get this fixed but the folks at Viking in Joann Fabrics said there was no adjustment for the speed of the pedal. Well, it finally kept going so fast that the whole machine suddenly CRASHED and LOCKED UP hard last night. Now I am stuck trying to find a place to repair it at my expense. Arrrrgh! There is a 2 yr warranty on it so maybe that will help.

Great machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Can Take Time To Learn How To Handle Speed Of Machine

5 out of 5 people found this helpful.

I use this for everything - simple projects like play dresses for my daughter and more complex projects such as period costumes and everyday clothing. Very sturdy, love the accessories, lots of options but easy enough for a novice to use. (Watch the speed though...this machine can stitch VERY fast but if you play with the foot pedal you can easily learn to adjust speed accordingly.) Very happy with this purchase!

Heavy Duty Singer 4452

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Dim Light

So far so good with this machine. Sews fine and is easy to use. Pretty good selection of stitches. The one feature that is not great at all is the light. Even with my overhead ceiling light on I feel like I am sewing in a dimly lit cave. I will have to buy a gooseneck lamp and perch it nearby.

This is my first full day of using this machine. I just purchased it yesterday. So far I am very happy with it. The manual is easy to understand. It is taking me time to get used to the automatic threader, but I am sure once I do I will love it. Also love the attachment that comes with the machine for quilting. It is a great benefit in helping me keep my seams straight.

Sewing Again

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

4 out of 4 people found this helpful.

I am back to sewing after at least 40 years away from the craft. This machine has made it very easy to do that. The numbered system make it very easy to thread the machine. I like the ease of filling the bobbins. I have sewn several craft projects and like how the machine handles different tensions for fabrics and several layers of fabric. I love the inclusion of so many different stitches. This lends itself to great creativity for my projects. I have use the zipper foot and it worked great in either position. This machine has made my venture back into sewing quite enjoyable.

I love my heavy duty sewing machine. I fast and it sews through thick seams with no problem. I have use this machine to machine piece quilts and have made jean bags. You know how hard it is to sew through layers of jean fabric. I have use the decorative stitches also. I can said I am overall pleased with my machine. I would recommend this machine model for beginners and advance sewers. It also lightweight to take to class.

I've only had this machine for a few months, but I absolutely love it! It really can handle anything ~ I made a heavy-duty totebag and the machine had no trouble with even the thickest parts. It's easy to use, runs well, and I've had no thread tension issues (my great-grandma's old Singer, the machine I grew up using, *always* has problems with thread tension). My one complaint is that it sounds a bit like a plane getting ready to take off!

I really like the 4452 for it's stitching. It works well for me because I sew heavy material like denim and fleece which it seems to handle well. Only dislike is the bobbin winder. I had one break so I use another machine to wind my bobbins.

heavy duty review

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Few Features, Doesn't Sew Multipul Thicknesses As Advertised.

12 out of 13 people found this helpful.

I was disappointed in my machine. My expectations were that it would sew heavier fabrics, and more than one layer. It bunches up the thread when it changes thicknesses. Not what was advertised. I do however like the way it sews regular fabric.

Not so Heavy Duty

Overall Rating:

15 out of 15 people found this helpful.

I purchased this machine to make pocketbooks and other heavy material items. First off after a few uses the machine began to act up and breaking needles - Well I soon discovered that the plate was bent down and the needle was hitting the plate and breaking. I got my handy dandy little hammer out and tapped the plate back into the original position. The same thing happened again several times after sewing heavy canvas material. Now that I have only been sewing thinner materials - the thread breaks and gets hung up around the inside of the machine somehow. This is the third Singer I have bought in the last several years but I assure you it will be the last. Both of the other machines have issues as well.

This is my second Singer (my first I bought in 1966) and I'm pleased with it. I made a small quilt as a "test" and it did a good job. The only thing I would like is to be able to select a wider stitch length for basting. My old machine would stitch 6 stitches per inch and that was very handy to have.
