This baby is loaded with all the bells and whistles! Sooo many things it can do. There is a learning curve for anyone who buys this machine. It's not like my 1960's singer at all. Please, spend lots of time practice with it. Get to know it, aquire love with it before you jump into major projects. Yes it can sew super fast and handle several layers, but why push your machine to the breaking point? Work it in, find out how it handles each material, foot, needle, speed. You go in gun-hoe it will give you problems. Once you find these things out you can prep yourself for success.

I am 66 years old and have taught sewing classes on high end machines in the $3,000 to $6,000 range. I was so pleased to see this Singer machine offered at such a wonderful value. It does everything and more that my older high end machines did. My new machine runs quietly and smoothly. It is beautiful to look at and has so many lovely stitches. I have had my machine for 10 days and I am on the final stages of a puff or biscuit quilt. It has been so easy to do on this machine, the thread cutter is wonderful and also the reverse button that will take one stitch to get me back to where I need to be is very helpful on this particular project. The box feed system seems to work really great to keep my quilt pieces from shifting. I think this machine is good for any level of sewer. If you are a beginner, it is easy to use but the sky is the limit on how far you could grow with this machine. For the experienced sewer, it has everything you could want. I do not think that you should have to spend thousands of dollars to get a great machine and Singer has proven that to me once again. I am thrilled with my new machine.

The Quantum Stylist 9980 is my first electronic sewing machine, and I have not been disappointed. I especially appreciate the ease of changing the thread and bobbin as well as the thread cutter and easy-clip presser feet that ensure each task produces accurate results. The buttonholes are amazing and truly one-touch, a selling point for this model is that is has a buttonhole that is rounded on both ends, this produces a very compact, minimalist buttonhole. As a male sewer, the blue (non-pink) color of the chassis as well as its weight and solid construction, along with the substantial, fold-away carrying handle on top make this an appealing tool to work with. While I appreciate the myriad stitching that is available, it would be helpful if the name and intended use of each stitch were in the manual instead of having to hunt for it on the website reference (the manual simply groups stitches 21-100 as decorative). Nevertheless, this sewing machine produces accurate, repeatable results as expected with enough variations to its functionality (mirroring, elongation) that it gives one not only confidence but a sense of adventure in terms of finding creative uses for all of its features.

This machine is wonderful! Easy to use and it has so many built in stitches to make my sewing more exciting! The only thing I wish was different on this machine is that you could adjust the size of the lettering, numbering and cute little patterns to make them larger. I make a lot of doll clothes so the cute patterns are perfect for that, the heart, butterfly and dog are the cutest!
