WAY beyond Frustrating

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Can Use Any Format, Significant Number Of Built-in Fonts

Cons: Poor Quality, Few Features, Complicated, Expensive, Machine Has Some Nice Features....if I Could Ever Get It To Work., Thread Tension Is Too Difficult To Manage, One More Birds' Nest, And I May Lose It....

I'm happy for those that say this is a wonderful machine. But I, like countless others I've seen, am so frustrated with it that I'm considering throwing it out the door!! I bought the machine from HSN last November, and purchased it primarily for the embroidery features and have had the same issues that I have seen discussed by many others: birds' nests under the fabric, tension issues with the thread, won't read the hoop size, etc. And yes, I have read the manual (which is of little help), searched every site available on the Internet, watched every YouTube video, and tried every hint and tip that someone else has found that might be helpful. I've cleaned the bobbin area, I've adjusted tension, I've tried different types of needles and thread, I've guided the thread between my fingers (try doing that while sewing on a small onesie), I've bought a separate thread holder, etc, Some of them helped for awhile, or for some items, and then it's back to the same problems. IF I could get it to work, I suspect I would really like some of the machine's features. It's great that you can use different pattern formats. And the built-in font set plus ability to use HyperFont to convert most any MS font is really nice. But as I throw away another ruined project -- I wish I had saved my $$, plus the $$ I've wasted on ruined onesies, burp cloths, etc. and bought another brand.

A pleasure to own this machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, This Machine Has Unique Features And Is Extremely Affordable.

Cons: Automatic Thread Cutter Sometimes Cuts Too Short.

The Singer Futura Quintet is a dream machine and so easy to use. I really enjoy the electronic panel because it makes stitch and function selection a breeze.

This is a large machine and very substantial. I was pleasantly surprised when the VERY large box arrived. It was simple to setup using the Quick Start guide and I was actually using the machine in no time.

The lighting under the head is so bright. No problems seeing exactly what you're working on. All of the stitches look great and there are plenty of decorator stitches. I bought this machine for embroidery only as I already own several sewing machine, but I just enjoy using it for sewing and I've made several things within the few weeks that I've owned it.

The main reason for buying this machine was for embroidery and I loved that all needed software for creating my own embroidery files, was included. I love Auto Punch. This software allows you to convert most images, including your own drawings (using a scanner), into an embroidery file. This opens up a whole world of embroidery fun because you are not limited to what you can find. You can make it yourself.

I've been sewing for over 30 years and my Singer Quintet has made sewing brand new for me with the ability to embroider too.

I have only one minor issue with this machine. The automatic thread cutter will sometimes cut the thread too short and I'll have to re thread the bobbin. This is not a big deal as I'm used to pulling out a bit of thread and cutting the thread myself.

I think if you are in the market for a home embroidery machine, you'll find that Singer Futura Quintet has so many features that other machines charge thousands of dollars for. It's a great buy and the included software makes it an even bigger value.

Excellent value for the $

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Would Like To Be Able To View Designs W/o Being Connected & In The Software. But An Add-on Iconizer For About $25 Will Resolve This.

This is my 3rd Singer purchase. I have upgraded over the years as I have progressed w/ my abilities and desire for MORE! I can't believe how many extras came w/ this machine (sewing feet, embroidery software, etc). For the price and quality, Quintet can't be beat! I don't understand why anyone would pay more for a diff brand which has less features. Totally satisfied and highly recommend. I bought it more for the embroidery so the sewing ability is a backup to my Quantum and simply an added bonus for me.

Love this machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I haven't been able to use all the bells and whistles on this machine, but have tried out most of the basic functions including straight sewing, quilting and embroidery. I have not sewn in about 20 years and wanted to ease back into this great hobby. I asked for a simple machine as a gift and my husband bought me the Quintet instead. I was able to follow the instructions to get it threaded and away I went. The directions were easy to follow, I have watched many YouTube videos and read many reviews. I can't believe I own such a great machine

Very Pleased

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Always Have To Make Sure Thread Is Pulled Out Far Enough After Machine Cuts As It Comes Unthreaded If Not.

I was very hesitant about buying a Singer Embroidery Machine due to a lot of negative reviews. I really wanted a larger embroidery hoop without spending thousands of $$. I joined a Futura Fan group on Facebook and got their input and then took the plunge. I LOVE my Quintet. Yes, I have had a few issues but no more than I had with my other machine....and pretty much all user errors! I love the big hoop and it goes on the embroidery arm so quickly and easily. I am glad I took the plunge!

Singer Quintet

Overall Rating:

Pros: Easy To Use

Just got my machine two weeks ago. Everything was going so good with the embroidery, then all of a sudden the carriage arm would not move at all. I tried everything Singer told me to do and nothing would help. I'm sending it back to HSN for a replacement. Hope the next one will hold up better than the first. Wonder if anyone else has had this same problem?

Nice Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality, Alot Of Bang For The Buck

Cons: It Takes A While To Learn.

2 out of 2 people found this helpful.

Opened up the box, studied the book and had it up and running within 6 hours, Has a moderate learning curve. Read a lot of reviews about people having issues with this model, as it turns out I feel they just didn't take the time to learn the machine before tearing into it. If you want speedy speed then don't get this machine. It works really good at low to 1/2 speed. If you go full speed it usually breaks threads and has bobbin issues. Basically a really good machine for home projects. GET THE RIGHT THREAD, NEEDLES, AND BACKING! If you don't your projects are destined to fail. Just like the book tells you. READ THE BOOK, LOOK OVER THE TUTORIALS, EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOU WILL ENJOY THIS MACHINE.

Would I buy another? Yes I would!

Purchased in Nov. 2013

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Lots Of Feet For Just About Every Job.

Cons: Have To Have It Hooked Up To Your Computer To Use The Designs When Embroidering, No Dealer/repair Locally.

Love it still. The 1st couple of weeks were a bit of a learning curve. Proper threading, learning the software etc. Now it's just plain fun. I use mine for both sewing and embroidery and both features work wonderful. Best advice I can give is read your manual , join a Singer Futura group and search youtube.

Trust the REVIEWS

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

2 out of 2 people found this helpful.

I purchased the Quintet from HSN as a Christmas gift from my husband and was SO excited to receive it because I have wanted an embroidery machine for about 5 years now. The machine arrived more the a week before Christmas but I promised my husband that I would not open it until Christmas. I can honestly say it was the worst Christmas present ever. I was so disappointed when it did not work and did everything all the bad reviews I had read about. Breaking needles, birds nests underneath and then the ultimate decision to return it, the entire bobbin casing completely seized up and then the machine would not work at all. I ALWAYS trust the reviews but this time I went against my better judgement and bought this machine anyways because it seemed like the perfect machine and I thought that maybe people who were giving it poor reviews were just not very computer literate or new at sewing. I did EVERYTHING exactly by the book right down to the recommended bobbin thread and embroidery thread. This seemed like the perfect machine and I was so very disappointed that it did not work, I wish I was giving this a better review because then I would have a nice machine working and doing what it was suppose to do.

Frustrating machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

This is the most frustrating machine I have ever had. When it sews it sews good but then we go thru hours of the machine saying thread breaking, when its not. Then the bobbin thread tangles up. Change needle a lot. Have a problem with bobbins bought @store 15Js For some reason they don't seem to work. And I'm sorry to say there is not much information on how to fix the problem of it saying thread breaking besides change needle and thread and bobbin. I'm sorry to say it gets really frustrating. I just want it to sew.

I was so excited when this machine was released. I finally got mine in late December. I played with it for a few days and was very pleased. Sold my other machine(baby lock). Then it set during the holidays and I was ready to use it again. Unfortunately, it had other ideas. I've read some of the other reviews and think that some of you are quite critical about people writing about their experiences. I have been sewing for over 30 years, and I had the same problem with the birds nest in the bobbin area. I tried everything I read and knew from previous experience and nothing worked. It would not do embroidery, straight sewing or anything at all. I sent this back and I am going to try the same machine. I will not hesitate to send it back if I have the same problems with the new one. Some people may not read the instructions, but I'm not convinced that this is user issues and not "machine issues". I congratulate those of you who have had no problems.

Not what the Video Showed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Easy To Use, It Is Easy To Use Except For The Glitches In The Software For Using Your Own Designs

Cons: Complicated, If You Want To Make Money With This Machine Doing Embroidery Or Monograming, You Have To Invest In Additional Software.

7 out of 10 people found this helpful.

I wanted the Quartet, but they were sold out, My husband purchased the Quintet as a Christmas Gift. On HSN they made it look so easy and said the software would make your own designs. It does not line up correctly when you do your own. You need additional software, not singer. Photoshop helps but you are not told enough about underlay of your designs and it does not automaticly do it. Bernet and Pfaff have much better software that actually does what it says. If it were not a gift, I would send it back and get a Pfaff.

If you only want to use their desins which are already set, then it is a great machine, but I want to do my own designs and they just do not line up correctly without editing it through other programs.

It sews nice, but that is typical of almost all machines.

My First Embroidery Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality

Cons: Hard To Access Around The Needle While Embroidery Unit Installed, Software Does Not Appear To Be Usable When Not Connected To The Sewing Machine

5 out of 7 people found this helpful.

For my first embroidery machine I feel it's easy to use. I find the space around the needle hard to access. In addition when starting a embroidery pattern it's hard judge the amount of tension to be kept on the thread. With that said, I'm anxious to learn more as I continue to explore my new machine.

Getting to know each other

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Love The Extra Lighting!

I am just learning my new machine...so far so good! I had a problem w thread breakage and thread breakage alerts at first, but called the hotline and (after quite a long hold time...but mentioned that to the hotline expert...she said that the wait time was long because they will spend as much time w you as needed! Which is good!)...corrected my problem...I wasn't threading properly. I am very excited over this machine and the embroidery program...which seems to be top notch! Lots to learn, but there are great tutorials featuring actual projects...so will be a good experience.

Singer Futura Quintet

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Great Accessories

I purchased the Futura Quintet from HSN mainly because if I didn't like it I could send it back. Well the more I use this machine the more I love it. I would recommend this machine to everyone. I have used Baby Locks and Janome machines and of course Singer machines. This machine tops them all. I love the ease of using the embroidery. I have a home based business and have sewed for years and this machine is hands down the easiest to use. I have done some trim work on and very silky fabric and it worked beautifully. I have done some embroidery and quilting and it has worked perfectly. And the price is great. I recommend this to a beginner or advanced sewer.

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Does It All And More!add A Pro, Gives Me A Chance To Use Some Of The Accessory Feet I've Never Used. Quite Fun., Learning More Than I Have With My Other Singer Machines, Which I Still Use On Occassion., Easy To Downloadto Computer. And Easy Download Of Patterns. If I Can Do It, Anyone Can.

Cons: If You Don't Like To Study, Don't Advise Getting This Machine.add A Con

This is a machine that replaces all of your other machines. It does it all. I have tries everything, and it works so well and easy. Quiet and smooth. The only thing I am having a little trouble with, is the endless embroidery hoop. Have never worked with this before, but am slowly learning. I would definitely buy this machine if you are on the fence with this one. You'll love it. The only other issue I have come across is running out of bobbin thread using the embroidery hoop, where you have to take the hoop off and that is not easy if it is positioned in spot where you have to fit it over the thickness of the hoop frame. Again, still learning.

Singer really out did themselves with machine! The new designs are beautiful, the endless hoop is fantastic and the machine sews and embroiders like a dream. I did not even hesitate to order this one and I am certainly glad that I bought it. The value added package is great and swift smart threading is easy and quick. I've already completed two projects and everything was smooth sailing with the Quintet. The quality of the embroidery designs and the stitches is just fabulous, will give those high end models a run for their money. Do yourself a favor and get this machine, be patient and follow every step and you'll be off to the races in no time. Thanks Singer and HSN for the flexpay...

An awesome machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality

Cons: The Machine Has To Be Connected To A Computer In Order To Embroider. It Would Have Been Nice To Have A Usb Port Or Other Type Of Card. But, Since It Does Run On An Old Computer It Wasn't A Big Deal For Me., A Full Tutorial On How The Use Specific Features Would Also Have Been Nice. This Would Make A Good Youtube Video.

I was a little nervous about purchasing this machine in light of the troubles with the Futura 550XL. My fears were NOT justified. I LOVE this machine. It was relatively easy to use, as i have some experiance with embroidery machines. I can use it without also purching a new computer. It"s relatively quiet and sews stitches like a dream. I love that I can use almost any embroidery programs so I was able to embroider with my previous (different brand ) programs. It also has multihooping capabilities so you can embroider up to twice the large hoop size. I had thought it would only allow you to use one design in different positions. This has turned out to be an awesome machine and I am very glad I purchased it. Thank you Singer! I highly recomend this machine even if you are a new embroiderer. It's not real complicated be but does take a little patients and it does have a tuturial to help you embroider your first design.
