Not worth the time or money

Overall Rating:

Pros: None

Cons: Difficult To Work With - Newbies Beware

I have been sewing for 40 years. I have owned my current Singer since 1984 and wanted to treat myself to a machine that had some nice embroidery stiches on it. This machine came on sale at Christmas time through Joann's for half price. Since the first attempt it has given me fits. Even with the knowledge of adjusting the bobbin tension there is practically no way to guarantee a good thread tension. The bobbin routinely lets the thread go loose and makes an awful mess. No matter how careful you are to check everything before you start, something is bound not to work and you are left taking all the thread out and starting over. I have changed my thread types, I have adjusted and adjusted all the tensions. I service my own machines so I know what to do on that respect. Then there is the pressure foot for power. It is separate from the electric portion so it is more like a rheostat. And it is hard to work with as well. It does not always stop when you release your foot and so the machine continues to feed fabric and sew where you don't want it. I am in the process of trying to get it returned or ??? but for sure in 30 days it won't be in this house - it will either be returned so I can shop for something else or out in the compost pile.

High Hopes Dashed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Very Portable And Quiet

Cons: Generally A Finicky Machine That Only Works When It Wants To.

This would be a nice little machine that does a lot of stitches if it weren't so gutless. I finally bought a Talent which can handle heavy materials with ease. I'll keep the Patchwork, but only to make the fancy stitches where needed or wanted. It has been a huge disappointment. It often throws error messages for no reason.

Patchwork experiences

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

Bought this machine two months ago. I'm a professional seamstress with 40+ years of experience. First one broke after two days-could not change needle position horizontally. Returned to store, got a second Patchwork. Yesterday it stopped operating and flashed an error message E7. Nothing about it in the manual or on Singer website. Not a word. Packed it up today and returned to store. Bought a Brother. Singer was formerly a good choice. Not any longer.

This my 2nd macine like this. The first only lasted an hour or so... don't know why. This one is great so far! Haven't used all the features yet, but the ones I have are wonderful! The free arm is a plus as well. I am glad I bought it!

This is my first sewing machine and I've had it now for about one year. Very easy to operate and I've never had any issues with it. Finished 4 quilts so far (FMQ and all) and 5 or 6 more in the making. Overall a great machine.

power cord

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

I have enjoyed all the features on my new machine. This is the first Singer that I have owned. The only complaint that I have is that the power cord into the machine does not stay plugged in. Kind of annoying when your sewing and it comes unplugged and the machine stops.

Great basic quilting machine.

Overall Rating:

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

Great machine for basic quilting. Could use a better 1/4 inch piecing foot (I'm using the one off my old Janome machine). The one that came with the Singer "quilting" model is not much more than a straight seam foot.

Very easy to set up and use.

Had I Known

Overall Rating:

Cons: Complicated

Had I known that this machine would be so difficult to thread I never would have bought it. The needle threader gets in the way and you cannot remove it. Also, the lighting on the machine is very poor. I can't wait to get back home and use my Viking.

After ten years I picked up sewing again and bought this new machine. And I'm having sew much fun with it. It's quiet and smooth. I especially like not having to guess stitch lengthens when I switch to another pattern. I'm in heaven!

The machine is great but the book I received doesn't give a whole lot of instruction on how to use the various settings. Guess I need to go back to sewing school.

I've been a singer customer for fifty plus years! My husband was in our local fabric store to drag me out when the sales Lady talked him into buying the machine for me. Well it is an amazing machine. Easy to use. Lives up the brand standards for quality and durability. On my third quilt and am so impressed with the quilting and decorative stitches. Highly recommend this model for first time or advanced seamstresses.

Great machine but plastic

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use, Detailed Instruction Manual, Good Customer Service

Cons: Poor Quality, Expensive

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

I bought this machine because I love to quilt and it had great reviews and was on sale for $200.00. I had problems at first with the thread totally clogging the bobbin area but realized I was not using the approved bobbin. After I fixed that, the machine has been great so far. The only problem is that the entire outer shell of the machine is plastic that I anticipate will very easily break with the slightest wrong move or forceful push of the accessory case. I would have been very upset with the cheap plastic body if I had paid $450.00 for this product. But, I got it for more than 1/2 off and will just be extra careful.

Very Nice

Cons: Wish It Took Metal Bobbins

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

So far I really like this machine. I thought it was messing up and then I realized that my bobbin thread had moved to the front and slipped out of its slot. Once I fixed that, it sewed very nicely. I am exited to see how well it quilts.

Error "E2" with machine.

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Error Code

I thought I was going to love the machine. My boyfriend bought it for me as an early Christmas gift. I opened the machine, set it up and started to fill the bobbin. The machine ran for approximately ten seconds, then beeped loudly and the screen read "E2". I can't get it to do anything else.

Good machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Very Quiet

Cons: Can't Figure Out The Needle Threader Assist, Compact Disc Video Is Generic Rather Than Specific To This Machine.

10 out of 11 people found this helpful.

Bought on sale at Joann's for $200 off so got it for $199. My other Singer had just died after several thousand hours of making theater costumes. This is my 3rd Singer. Also have a Brother embroidery machine. This machine was very easy to set up. Still having trouble with the needle threader assist. Have watched the video and read the instructions several times with out success. Also need to use reading glasses to thread it!. I did not find the CD very helpful. Was generic rather than specific to this machine. Overall I am pleased with the purchase.

Great Machine

I have had this machine for a little over a month and I LOVE IT!
I had been using an Singer sewing machine, that had been handed down to me by my mother, that was 30+ years old. It worked great up until the end- (I may have it repaired just because it would be nice to have a second machine for when my daughter wants to sew) but I was ready to upgrade anyway. I loved that machine though and knew that I wanted a Singer again for my next machine.
I quilt a lot and I use this machine almost everyday. I love all the different stitching patterns it can do and how easy it is to use. I am also teaching my 10 year old how to sew and she has had fun using the different stitch designs too.
I was a little concerned when I took it out of the box because my last machine didn't do anything other than a straight and a zigzag stitch and this looked a little overwhelming. But after reading through the owners manual and practicing a few different things with it, I LOVE it. The manual is very easy to read and understand. I love how it gives ideas on what you can use each stitch for.

Disappointed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality, Bobbin Is A Pain To Get In Correctly.

14 out of 15 people found this helpful.

I like all the built in stitches but the machine itself is cheaply made. Having a lot of problems with the bobbin. Very tempermental. Constantly getting error messages some of which are even in the manual. Found it hard to change the needle. Doesn't seem to want to fit without applying pressure. If I had paid the $459.00 (original price) I would have been returning it. I bought it for quilting but there is not enough room to roll up a decent size quilt. The light is also horrible. have to use a separate light when I do want to use the machine. Overall very disappointed.

LOVE IT!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Stitch Length Has To Be Reset When It's Turned Back On.

9 out of 10 people found this helpful.

I had another brand sewing machine for the past 30 years, and I was so very comfortable with it. However, it was finally on its last leg, so I found this one on sale. I was very nervous about learning to use an electronic machine, with all the settings and such, but I found it easier than expected. The instructions were clear, and there's even a DVD that comes with it. It's very easy to thread the top and the bobbin. The only part that took me awhile to learn was the self-threading feature, but I finally got it. I do wish the stitch length would stay set even after I turn off the machine, but I can live with that, now that I realize it resets to the default. It's a very quiet machine, which is good because I like to look at movies or listen to music while I sew. It has plenty of space to work around for my projects, too.

Love this machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Lighting Is Weak

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

I haven't sewn in a number of years, with the exception of an occasional patch or quick seam stitching. I took up sewing clothes, etc., again a year ago, and then my old Singer Stylist machine gave up. I was hesitant to get a machine with electronic controls, but have found it quite easy to learn and use this new Singer.

I haven't used a machine since school years some 50 years ago. This maqchine is so easy to use. The one feature I like most is the speed control pedal. I went to sewing class and I noticed a classmate having trouble with the pedal. I let her try my machine and she was so impressed, now she wants a Singer Patchwork with speed control.

Great Value except.......

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Ridiculous Oil Leaking. This Machine Has Oil On Every Available Surface - Even The Presser Foot!

42 out of 44 people found this helpful.

I love this machine - can use it blindfolded. Before I purchased it, I saw the review about the oil leaking. I checked before using and mopped up a bit. But as I used the machine longer, more and more oil leaked out - all over white linen! I was able to soak it out however I am now on my 3rd garment, still leaks oils even with me wiping the shank down frequently. Such a hassle for a great little machine.

Great Sewing Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Light

14 out of 15 people found this helpful.

I gave this machine 4 stars for only one reason. The light. It is very dim and on the wrong side of the needle. Need to use additional lighting even though my machine sits in front of a window. The other features are great and am quite pleased with the machine overall.

A quilt destroyed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality, Too Much Oil For Any Machine

42 out of 50 people found this helpful.

Initially, I loved this machine. It's quiet, has an even quilting stitch, and a long arm - ideal for quilting. Then, it leaked black oil all over my quilt, ruining two white pinwheel blocks. Definitely no need for so much oil on a sewing machine.

Lighting

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, Does Free Motion Sewing

Cons: Light Is On The Left Of Needle And Not Where It Is Needed To See While Sewing.

67 out of 69 people found this helpful.

This machine does a great job sewing and the free motion sewing for quilting works very well. I had purchased a Singer machine and returned it to get this one. I am disappointed in the light. It is more to the left and makes it hard to see your seam side to sew. You have to have another light to see properly.

Singer Patchwork Great Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Self Threading, Walking Foot Included As Well As Extra Long Arm

Cons: Would Love More Space Under The Arm For A Quilt To Be Rolled Up

87 out of 89 people found this helpful.

I had been eyeing the quilting machine but thought it to be limited. So I decided to buy the Singer Fashion Mate or Stylist. I literally stumbled on to the Patchwork at a Joann's fabrics. They didn't even have the machine listed on the Singer website yet. I just found it up. I love it. Even better than my Kenmore. It runs smoothly. No jams so far and just very very easy. The walking foot that it came with along with the extra long arm with a ruler printed on the side is FANTASTIC!! Whether you're a beginner or expert I don't think you can beat the quality for the price of this machine ($194-$229)
