My Sew Mate is not what I expected. It does not sew the way other Singers do.My stitches make poor patterns ,even the zigzag sews straight half the time . It knots and tangles on reverse. And I can't trust it to do any top stitch work because it looks so bad.I hate to say anything about a Singer product, but I am very dissatisfied with my new machine. I don't like the pressure foot lifter on the under side,or the fact that I can't buy attachments for it.

I have been sewing for years. I recently got back into it pretty heavily. I decided it was time to get a new machine and I'd heard great things about the Singer products. My last machine was a Brother. I see now why Singer has such a good reputation. I LOVE this machine! It's easy to use and sews beautifully. It's also a great price for the features you get. The only thing I wish I could change is that it's green. My favorite color is purple LOL.

I've had this machine for a couple days and have used it everyday. This is my first sewing machine and I am very pleased with it. I haven't had any issues with it and it sews great and is very easy to use. I highly recommend!
So I decided to buy my first sewing machine knowing absolutely nothing about sewing or sewing machines. I hopped over to my Walmart and purchased a comparable Brother model, got it home and began setting up. I got as far as putting the bobbin into the case and pulling the lower thread up and that's where the process began to fall apart. First, the design of the bobbin shuttle is such that you cannot see what you are doing to thread it. Add to this the fact that mine was faulty (I did not know this for a long time though because I had no experience with sewing machines) and the whole thing became frustrating beyond belief. Early the next morning I took the "BOTHER" back and exchanged it for my singer that I have now. Best of all I can not only see the bobbin case, I can remove it from the shuttle. Every other feature is fantastic as well, again I had NO experience with sewing machines. Thank you Singer, for redeeming the entire craft of sewing in my eyes,
Feed dogs quit after only one week of easy straight stiching. Never got to try any other stiches. Customer Service never called/responded to advise return or repair. Returned to store and went back to my $80 Brother machine.
a good sewing machine for beginner and intermediate user. For advance user, it may feel like the sewing machine is not enough fast and has a little lac of power when we ask a lot. Be patient, it works very well but differently as the old mecanic one worked. Technology is great but sometime we have to sacrifice a little bite on something else.
I swear by Singer and have had several over the past 30+ Years. I have ONLY bought SINGER brand machines. I recently purchased the sew mate 5400, at Walmart, the first one I bought, make a clunking sound, broke several needles (in ONE day), could never get the bobbin tension adjusted right (using the screw?!) and the machine wrecked several fabrics in the process. Returned/Exchanged it at Walmart (and told the Clerk DO NOT Restock this machine it does NOT WORK), got the second one home and it clearly had been opened (Go figure?) and returned to the shelf after someone returned it for whatever defect? ALL packaging was opened, pieces were missing, I decided to try it out to see what the trouble may be with it, and the EXACT same issues with this one!!! No wonder they returned it as well. I am very disappointed in this product. The THIRD one I have~~ it had the WRONG CD (which I did not need really anyway) only 1/2 - 2/3 of the stitch features worked correctly without either the fabric being eaten by the machine or the bobbin tension not able to be adjusted correctly...would NOT Wind a bobbin with quilt thread, it became all tangled and had to cut it off the bobbin, this machine does not sew through ANY layers well, produces BROWN threads in between stitches (have NO Idea what this is from? Dirty Oil in the machine?) I am returning the third one and will NOT buy another. I am considering trying another brand after 30 years with Singer. I have been inconvenienced THREE times and am NOT HAPPY.

I was looking for a simple machine to learn how to sew on. I certainly found it with this machine. In just a few minutes I was making my first project.
I've had my new Singer for a few weeks now and I just love it. I have an old singer but couldn't order parts for it, its 50 years old and still sews good, just wanted to do more with my sewing. My new Singer is fabulous, been sewing for over 40 years and this machine sews perfect, love the auto needle threader and all the different stitches and buttonholes I can create. I just love it especially the price.
I am so disappointed with this Sew Mate from Singer. I have had a Singer before so I purchased this Singer Sew Mate from WalMart. The manual is so hard to read as a person has to search through various languages to find English. The thread tangles on the underside, the machine is very noisy, the bobbin is hard to insert, needles break, the machine won't sew over various thicknesses in one seam, buttonholes are hard to place, etc. etc. etc. I wish that I could find something nice to say about this sewing machine. I hope that WalMart will let me return it.
I received this as a gift. The thread take-up kept dropping the thread, and then it would tangle in the bobbin area. Changing tension did not solve the problem. I had to keep stopping to re-thread. I sent an e-mail to customer service. Two weeks went by without a response, so I sent another e-mail. I tried calling. I was on hold for an hour and then got disconnected. I gave up, returned the machine to the store, and bought a different brand. The next day I finally received an e-mail response. It was completely unhelpful and told me I hadn't threaded it correctly. I know how to thread a sewing machine. Singer is not the quality brand it used to be.
I purchased this machine and after 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with Singer through several phone calls (always a busy recording) and email I finally had to take this machine back. The thread kept getting caught up in the bobbin area. Could have been a simple fix but I'll never know :(
I love this machine. First new one in many years. Haven't used all the features yet but I am presently using the machine to make a quilt and it's doing just fine.
I received this machine for Christmas, and I couldn't be more happy with any gift I have ever gotten! My father bought it, and I know he thought of all the fun I could have with all the different stitches, and I sure do! It is easy to use. My only complaint would be that it gets jammed up rather often in the bobbin area, but after the first time, I have figured out how to fix it and it's quick and easy.

This is the easiest machine I've ever used! It is light weight and easy to carry with you on trips (you never know when the button holes fall apart)! It goes just about everywhere with me!
