I was rather disappointed when I tried to sew with my new Singer. The timing and bottom tension were both off and upon taking the machine to a repair shop as Singer told me too, I found that the metal bobbin was one of the big problems. Also, I find the light rather dim and have to use a suppemental light to see. After repair and the plastic bobbin, I am happy for the most part in how the machine performs. I would be most happy if Singer were to send me 29 plastic bobbins, #15 J, to replace the metal ones that came with the machine. A little more information on how to use the circular sewing would be helpful. I find that it takes a rather stiff material to be able to sew circles without it bunching up. I also found that the machine does not sew through levi seams as the presser foot does not stay level.
The machine came with alot of extras but their not as easy to use as shown on tv ( I should have known) The lighting is really dim and I'm having trouble with the bobbin catching - needle threader doesn't line up with the needle so it's just easier to thread the needle myself then fighting with it. Hopefully practice make perfect
I have wanted a Singer Heavy Duty for a while and when the new one came out I had to get it. The main selling points on this machine are not even the rock solid mechanism or the new stitches. I really got the machine for the extension table! This should be a MUST for every Singer from here on out! The sewing machines we all remember from Singer were at the level of the table, making it much easier to maneuver the projects around. Now with all of the tabletop machines it makes it a definite selling point to have such a large sewing surface available.
Just finished using my new 5532 for the first time. It runs just fine but is a bit noisy. Disappointed that the light is quite dim so I need supplemental lighting to see well. I look forward to trying the decorative stitches.
I have been using my machine for 3 months now and it sews like a dream the light is dim but added another light and many projects later wow and I own 6 machines. I own my grandmothers treadle to the new heavy duty love them all
Only had machine for few days but very pleased with the performance out sews digials simple to operate, I sew daily and it is working like a dream and the buttonholes are awesome nice and heavy most of my other machines I have to redo buttonhole couple of times to get a nice looking buttonhole. LOVE IT!!!
I like my machine I purchased it a couple of months ago. I had an issue with it not working right one time and called the customer support people and worked that problem out. I think it seems to run well but when I got the machine I got several attachments that are not easy to figure out how to use. I wish they could have a video to show exactly how to use these attachments. Other than that the machine has been good. It sews well through several layers but when you do that you can't go fast because the needle will break or bend. I would recommend the machine to others but would say that it would be a good thing if a video would be included.
I have had a Nelco for 35 years and it finally gave out. I could have had it adjusted but I thought why not get a new machine? I needed to sew some new sunbrella covers for my sailboat so I needed something heavy duty. This machine had plenty of stitches for my use and didn't need to be fancy. The automatic needle threader works like a charm on this model. It doesn't work on the 3221 simple model I also own. The drop in bobbin is also a big plus for me. As my eyesight dwindles with age, these two features are real sweet. The light is dim as others have said so I bought a natural light desk lamp. It weighs about half the weight of my old Nelco which initially had me worried but so far it has done beautifully. It sewed right through many layers of sunbrella with ease (and easier than the Nelco ever did). Whether it can hold up for 35 years is unknown and doubtful but I sew very little now so that may not be a problem. Mine came with all the accessories and the quilting table so I got a fantastic deal which helped me decide. If you are looking for a heavy duty model that won't break the bank, I think this is it!!
Pros:Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Good Quality
Cons:Dim Lighting, Needs Info On Maintenance.

This machine does what I need and bought it for, heavy duty. I sew heavy fabrics and it sails right through the material beautifully. I'd love to give this machine 5 stars but the lighting is dim and the instruction book does not give much on cleaning and maintenance. All in all I'm a very happy sewer.
I used my new machine for the first time a month ago and made a quilt. Today I started another quilt and I am having major problems with the bobbin getting stuck and noting up. This has really slowed my progress today and is very frustrating.
I bought this machine to hem jeans and it does all that it was advertisied to do. The only thing I am not happy with is the lighting which is poor and I noticed that as a common compalaint in other reviews. It has alot of additional features that I have not yet used but am excited to have on a heavy duty machine.
The function to move the needle position does not work--it is stuck in the left position. The bobbin tension is so tight that I have to put the top tension all the way to 9 to get an even stitch. I will probably take it to a local place and pay to have it fixed because boxing it up and sending it to Mesa, AZ (the closest place to have it fixed) is more hassle than I am prepared to put up with since this is a brand new machine.
Pros:Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons:Did Not Hold Up Long Before Stopping With Bobbin Thread Knotted Under Feed Dog.add A Con

I needed a heavy duty machine for some upholstery and drapery work. My other singer worked well but thought I would be ahead with a heavy duty one. Well....the bobbin thread constantly bunches up and you cannot remove the feed dog, you have to pick and pick to get the knots out. Finally, after cleaning all the looped threads out, now the needle hits the side of the bobbin housing and will not make a single stitch complete. Sitting on hold to talk to CS to hopefully get problem fixed. I hate being in the middle of a project only to be stopped by a malfunctioning machine. Heavy Duty should be heavy duty and not clog and bog down so easily. Too late to return, out of 30 day return time.
Thought the machine is overall very good. The lighting is poor which all machines have this problem. Additional lighting is necessary. Some of the attachments that came with the machine were not listed in the product book on how to use, but the internet explained them beautifully.
Pros:Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Very Good Quality, Especially For The Price.

I am a professional seamstress specializing in bridal and formalwear. I sew every day. You would think that all bridal is delicate, but the way gowns are made today its like sewing through battle armor sometimes. I also do general alterations on occasion. Denim has always been a problem because the settings on my machine always had to be changed and then changed back. This machine is a powerhouse and easy to make adjustments for a variety of fabrics that I work on throughout my day. I even stitched through a beaded fabric. The size is right for my space. (I hate messy oily industrial machines) especially when working on wedding gowns. And the price was right. A great value, I have already earned what I paid for it back. I have only had it about a month but am confident that this machine will take a beating for many years to come.
Cons:It Takes A Little Getting Used To Because I Am Used The The Total Electronic Machines.
