First off, Look at the beautiful workmanship that has gone into this gorgeous machine. Singer has incorporated it's past and updated some of today's latest features into this machine. The touch panel is fantastic and semi auto needle threader is an outstanding feature as well. The machine purrs as it sews and has the feel of Singers past work horses. I am excited as I am using it and happy that it added a beautiful work of art into my sewing/craft room. Thanks, Singer for bringing back such a nostalgic look and working beauty, also thanks for the extra accessories those are appreciated as well. The only thing that needs improvement is the lack of a high quality dust cover, we the sewers and this machines deserve better. Keep shinning!

I read one review on this machine that said that this machine was too loud. Que?! It is only too loud if you have put a pillow over the top and plan to take a nap on it. When they say Model 160, they mean that it took them 160 years to come up with this. It is not a "computerized machine." It does all the "basic" sewing features that you would need right up to the features that someone who wanted a "computerized" machine would want, and there, at that point, the designers stopped. It is a "sewing machine" not a computer. Buttons, hems, zigzags, T-shirt stitch, what do you need? It isn't over designed or under designed. Beginners would like this and tailors might like it too. I have wanted to learn to sew forever. However, all those machines out there are for "girls only." Not this puppy, this is neutral, gents or the ladies, it has class all the way around. What took them so long?
1. Auto needle feed and it works
2. Double bobbin feeds for double needle work
3. Looks both fem and masculine at the same time
4. Extend the arm out and you could sew a tent!
5. Pull the arm off and it is sleeve time
6. Not too light, not too heavy
7. Bobbin is right there
8. I have never, ever, used a sewing machine in my life - period. I did the bobbin, threaded the machine, used the auto needle feed, and watch, when it comes time to make my own suits, I will be on the same machine.
9. Sharp contrast to the white and pink sewing machines out there with the pink flowery thing
10. What in the world took them so long to come out with this?
11. When they are ready to make upgrades to the accessories I hope they call me!

My grandmother was a seamstress and she did all her sewing on a Singer. That was in the 50's and 60's. Her machine looked very much like this Anniversary Edition. I love my new machine. It is incredible. The features are state of the art and easy to use. Not only is it beautiful, but it takes me down memory lane every time I use it. I feel like a kid again ! Singer...You did an awesome job !

Just got this machine and I've already almost completed a baby quilt.I've been Quilting for 20 plus yrs. and I wanted to do a little of everything on this machine to see how she ran.I did piecing and applique done with some of the decorative stitches and I'm very pleased with the way it sews!!! I absolutely recommend this machine. It's not to costly for what you get. I own many different machines and I really like this one!!!! Thanks Singer for bringing back the old fashion Look. Looks are very important on our sewing machines!!!

This is truly a beautiful machine. Sews nicely, the two special feet are not complicated at all. Very happy I bought it. Singer can still provide a better dust cover to those who purchased the machine so far. That would be nice.

I was so excited about getting this machine, it's gorgeous! I was also excited about all the extra attachments it came with. threading it was easy, but slightly confusing, diagrams in the book are no good, gotta figure it out for yourself. Once I started using it, I was amazed at how loud it is, so loud it drowned out the kids playing and the dishwasher! My biggest con though is that there is no needle down position, for pivoting, if you turn alot, like I apparently do, you need this feature, I will probably end up with carpal tunnel from turning the side dial constantly. Probably should not have bought this, better features, quietness, needle down and ease of threading are to be found elsewhere. But, this machine sure looks good!

Love this machine it is not only beautiful to look at the functionality is awesome. I have another high end singer machine, however this is my every day machine. It is easy to use and I leave out for everyone to see. I have received so many comments on how beautiful it is. Everyone needs this machine.

I love my Singer 160. The positives include: great stitches and speed; the stitch options are enough for me; the needle positions are handy; great assortment of accessories came with the machine; I've been playing around with the flower attachment and it's pretty darn neat, not difficult to use at all; the large surface of the free-arm area is nice; the large tote bag is more like a serious piece of luggage. It's very heavy, durable and of high quality.
I've made a few small items since purchasing it from HSN in January. I made a fleece lined tote bag and some burlap coasters, decorated some towels with fabric strips, repaired some clothing. It did a fantastic job.
The needle threader works great. You've just got to be sure the needle is all the way up and in the right position. The auto-tension feature is one of my favorite so far. It sews beautiful stitches.
I experimented with a big layer of fabrics by using a 'sandwich' of two layers of thick denim, two layers of fusible fleece, five layers of quilting cotton and I loosened up the tension a good bit (maybe at 2) and it sewed like a dream. I couldn't believe it. I did some straight, zig-zag and flower stitches without a problem or growl from the motor.
The machine is beautiful and looks great on my desk.
Okay... now for the negatives: no needle down option. I have it on my previous machine, but it hasn't bothered me too much not having it (so far.) When I remove the free-arm to sew in a tight space, the machine bounces pretty bad. (I have a VERY heavy solid wood desk) so I don't think it's that. I did sew at full speed when it bounced, and when I slow down to a moderate speed, it doesn't bounce. Maybe it's the heavy motor. I'm not thinking the LED lights (there are 3) are that bright. I've read reviews elsewhere that say they are extremely bright. I like a lot of light and always use extra anyway so it's no big issue for me.
My machine came with a small, hard scratch but I can live with it. At first I was worried about scratching up the beautiful black surface and I decided it was like a new car. It's going to get scratches so enjoy the journey.
That's my nickle (maybe dime) review. I think it's a great machine for the money.
very very nice little machine

First of all, I love the way it looks and I have to admit I wasn't sure of it's quality but I was wrong. It sews very, very well and has great stitch quality.Comes with a lot of different feet and I'm very impressed.Wish it had a needle up/down button thou. I recommend this machine. The price is right too!!!

I think this machine is just gorgeous! It performs like a commercial machine in a beautiful package. I love how easy it is to change stitches at the touch of a button and it is quite portable as well. The needle threader is great for me as older eyes make that hard to do. I used to HATE changing threads for topstitching or just doing a different part of a project but now I don't mind at all. There are a few negatives. One is that there is not enough information in the booklet provided. It just tells the basic steps but doesn't go into enough detail. My husband, who is extremely handy, had a difficult time figuring out how to attach and use the darning/embroidery foot. There is a small wire-like thing at the top and we weren't sure where it should go. We couldn't put the presser foot up or down, depending on where we placed that "wire" and were quite frustrated. Quite by accident, my husband realized that once the wheel is turned, the foot goes down by itself. That should have been part of the instructions. Once I got it working, I realized that it is very hard to move the quilt around easily because the machine is up so high and there is not enough of a large surface to work on. It doesn't fit into my sewing table and I really want it to be "flat" with the table for easier sewing of larger projects. Any suggestions? I purchased the DVD but was disappointed in it because it only shows what it LOOKS LIKE to do certain things and I was hoping it would better explain how to attach different feet and use them in more detail and not be so general. I wish there was a way to make the needle stop in the down position. If there is, I can't find how to do it because it isn't mentioned in the book. Can that be done? I haven't tried the buttonhole attachment but hope it is as easy as it looks. Perhaps the feet should have been numbered as they are often difficult to identify just from the sketch in the manual. I also agree about the dust cover. It definitely should have been made of fabric. It won't last long.
My first new machine in 20 years was love at first sight!

When I first saw this new machine all I could think of what I WANT IT! I have three singers in my collection all from the early 1940's the machines that have been put out since the 90s were just something I didn't want because they looked like all the others that were out there. I had gone to the Joann's site and looked at this machine and read though the reviews and seen many negitive reviews but still wanted this machine. I was going to sell two items to get this but my sister did not want me to do that and got it for me it came on Friday, (4/20/12),this machine was all that I had thought it would be. Some of the neg' comments I read was it was to loud well with sewing for more then 45 years I did not find it loud at all.. then finger prints on it well I don't know about you but if you sew with it any finger prints that are on it come right off it for the scratching easy well if you are careful that is not going to happen if you are not careful then deal with it. Its a beautiful Machine I love it and it has got me away from my Featherweight for the first time in many many years. I love the design the color and the way that it sews. I do wish there was a case that I can put it in but with the size it is I have not found one yet.. I would like to say the cover is a wonderful pattern for a cover to get the right size!

I just love this machine. Not only the look oof it but the features as well. As soon as I read about the machine in a magazine I knew that I had to have one. Only disappointment was that the US launch received additional accessoeie with there machine that the Australian launch did not receive. I personally would have loved to receive these also and I can,t find anywhere to purchase them.

The Singer 160 had just arrived at the local Joann's Fabric store. It is a work of art. I have opened the box and must say that WHITE CHEAP COVER is out of place, I an sure you can correct that problem. I do love the maching.

Had to have this machine even though I have remained a novice since I first learned to sew when I was a child. This machine is so easy to use it makes you want to sew. Having it only a week I have darned everything in the house that needed repaired, replaced a coat zipper and made my daughter an denim purse using the flower foot. The automatic threader and drop in bobum have taken away all my frustrations. The mini surger is much easier to use than I expected its great for shortening tee shirts for the kids. I love everything about this machine and am looking towards years of creating things for my family and friends.
WARNING SCRATCHES EASILY!
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Beautiful Design, Has Many Modern Features
Cons: Cheap Dust Cover, Scratches Super Easily, No Needle Up Or Down, Does Not Have The Option To Not Use The Foot Pedal
I was so excited to own this machine. I could not wait for the debut on HSN. I announced it's arrival at my Featherweight Club and even convinced 3 of my friends to buy one too. I was able to get mine at the Today Special Value Rate of $379.95 with no charge for shipping, and payments of $79.95 per month x 5 months. You can't beat that price anywhere! It also came with a red embroidered bag, a Singer Retro Book, and lots of extra feet. One of my friends called and said she was dissapointed that her machine was already scratched before she got it out of the box. I opened mine today and it too already had 2 scrathes and a scuff mark on the sewing bed. I tried to wipe it off with my finger and it put a scratch in the finish, and then I used a mircofiber cloth and it too added a scratch. Singer could have done a better job on the finish of such a beautiful machine. I don't even want to think about what it's going to look like after I put a pin in a quilt block and slide it threought the bed of the sewing machine :(. I was also disappointed that there is no needle up or down option, the ability to sew without a foot pedal is also lacking, and the dust cover just plain cheap for such a beautiful machine. Overall I am just happy to sit stare at my new beautiful sewing machine but sad about what will happen to the finish when I use it.

I absolutely love this machine. I have had three Singer machines over the past 30 years and this one is by far the best EVER! The smoothness of the sewing and the ease of operating the machine has me so excited to be creating new projects. I would recommend this machine to anyone that is an accomplished sewer or someone who is a beginner.
A beautiful machine
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, It Sure Looks Great On My 1921 Singer Treadle Cabinet!! Oh Yes, Just What My Sewing Space Needed, And Very Much A Conversation Piece.
Cons: This Machine Is A Lot Noisier Than I Had Expected It To Be, My 1925 Singer 99-13 Sews Quieter!!those Who Say It Purrs?? I'd Say Mine Whirrs With A Whiney Noise.
This is a good machine. I bought it for its looks and got what I wanted. The push button stitches are great, the flower and hemming attachments work well and I am happy with what it does. The automatic needle threader is a great helper, I can't see that well at my age, plus it saves time threading the needle. When I changed my needle, oops, it doesn't work anymore!! I finally read online that all the Singers and Brothers with automatic needle threaders do the same thing, they get a bit out of line. So, a tiny tweek with my 'ladies' needle nosed pliers got that little wire back in line with the hole in the needle and I am back in business!!

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality
It is a beautiful machine!! I love the color and style. It is easy to use and would make an excellent first machine. I do think the threading is tricky through the top tention, but the needle threader worked great. Love all the added presser feet that come with. I have used half so far just to try them out and they worked great. I love the wider bed it works good for quilting. The storage drawer is very handy. The cover is wimpy but the red carring case is really nice. Thanks Singer!!!!

Received the machine today and it is AWESOME. If sewing machines are sexy then this is SEXY. I set it up and sewed some stuff. Smooth, quite, and it sews like a dream. The craftsmanship is beautiful. I just love everything about the look and feel. I machine piece quilts and I am looking forward to using this machine many years. I loved when I first turned it on and it lit up like a Christmas tree. I was not looking to purchase a sewing machine but I ordered it as soon as I saw it on line. Enough said..I have got some quilt blocks to sew. Susan from North Carolina.

I bought this machine mostely because of the look, I just love it! It sews very nicely, goes over thick seams easily. It is so easy to thread you think you've done it wrong. Because of the finish it does show scratches but what machine doesn't it just shows up more on the black. It was a great price and came with lots of extras. I'm really heppy I purchased it.
GREAT MACHINE
Overall Rating:
This machine is a beautiful blast from the past with the convenience of the day. The threading of the needle and bobbin are so simple and easy it makes my job with over 50 eyes a breeze. The large sewing bed and LED lights are a joy to have. I have regained my love of sewing. Thanks Singer!!!
a modernized Featherweight!
Overall Rating:
Very nice machine! It's a little noisy, but the features more than make up for it. I love the variety of decorative stitches, and the ease of the back-tack button. Most of all, I love the way it looks: like a modernized Featherweight, which has been my favorite Singer sewing machine of all time (I've had several!)

I love my new 160 Singer Mavhine. I have one problem. I cannot find additional bobbins to purchase for this machine. Please help me. Thank you.
Pretty To Look At
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Pretty Design
Cons: No Needle Down Feature
Thing I don't like; no needle down feature, foot pedal cord is too short, bobbin tension is way too tight (even though the manual states that it is perfectly factory set), no handled screwdriver, Cheap cover.
Things I do like; good and useful selection of stitches, stops instantly the foot pedal is lifted, excellent threading system, bobbin pick-up works well, good on-board storage, biggish work area, removing flat bed makes the unit smaller for easier transport, accessories from my other machines fit.
I am surprised that Singer would go to the trouble of making such a nice machine and not include a needle down feature as this is needed when the feed dogs are down and when using the blanket stitch for appliqué and for other stitches. As I will be only using this machine away from home for classes etc I guess I will manage. The cover is a let down, but good enough to use as a template to make a nice one. If it had a needle down feature I would have given it 5 stars.
LOVE IT!!!!
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Motivating
This machine is beautiful! It is wonderfully sleek and shiny and I like that it has a nice strong purr when sewing. The stitches come out looking terrific. It has a lot of nice features for the price. My other machine is a "cadillac" but this one is the sexy, fun little "sports car".
Good job Singer!
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, High Quality, Design
Cons: Cheap Dust Cover, Singer Anniversary Carrying Case Not Available To Everybody
I didn´t think a sewing machine could look beautiful. But then I saw the Singer 160. I just fell in love at first sight! The machine runs smooth and nice. The LED-lights give you good overview of what you are doing. I especially like the large sewing space the machine provides. And when you are done sewing, it´s just nice to be able to have the machine as a nice decoration in your home thanks to the cool design.
However, it´s sad that you are not able to buy the Singer Anniversary carrying case, which HSN included in their offer, separately. Thats a big disappointment actually.
Other than that, this is the best sewing machine I have used so far!! Keep up the good work Singer!!
Great Modern Machine with a VIntage Feel!
Overall Rating:
Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Great Vintage Look Adn Feel!
Cons: In An Ideal World, This Machine Would Come With Automatic Needle Down....
I've had this machine for a couple of months now. I bought it mostly for it's great looks, but it has proven to be a real workhorse of a machine! It sews easily through multiple layers and I LOVE the Swiftsmart Threading and electronic stitch selelction! Besides being very easy to use, it's also great to look at! A very modern machine that gives a visual nod to Grandma's SINGER 201~

I haven't sewn in several years. The machine is easy to use right out of the box. It's super attractive and technically a great machine. The automated features make big projects a pleasure. I made a stuffed animal with appliques and fancy stitches the first day and it came out great. I highly recommend this one!

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality
Cons: No Needle-down Feature
I am an avid sewer/quilter and have collected Singer machines...I currently have 3 Featherweights! I love this new machine and have already completed a quilt top on it. I am a little disappointed there is no needle-down option; as well I was disappointed there were no "extras" (case, feet, etc) in Canada that were included in the U.S. I would think the market in countries other than the US would be just as large and it would be good marketing sense to include the rest of us!

Saw this machine, and had to have it. Sews wonderfully, is quiet and easy. Can take it to class or group sewing with ease, and it gets lots of looks and raves. I used to take my Featherweight, however this machine has many added stitchs and is just as light to carry.

Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Looks Terrific, Large Sewing Area
Cons: Louder Than My Other Machines, Super Cheapooooo Dust Cover
I have owned Singer machines for years and my Featherwweight was always my favorite, so when this machine came out I had to have one. Mostly I love the way it looks, but it does sew a very nice stitch and has a good selection of stitches with the touch of one button. However, I do agree with those who say it is noisy. Not an annoying clackity noise, but a loud hum. After all, it is a Singer, some noise should be expected. Over all, I enjoy the machine, love looking at it. The dust cover, if you can call it that, is ridiculously thin and flimsy, why bother at all Singer?
Looks like an oldie but works like new!

Looks Great! Sews Great! A little on the noisey side.
Disappointed with the finish on the plastic. Shows scuffs, fingerprints, and marks easily.

Drop-in bobbin feature; Easy to understand manual. DVD was useful for new or experienced sewers. Extra large sewing platform with sloping front [best I’ve ever seen]
Reasonable weight to size ratio
Good assortment of most-used specialty stitches and attachments
CON:
Major: * * * NOISEY,‘clackety’ sounding * * Minor: No “Needle up/Needle down” control, No “1/4 inch” foot
Love to sew
Overall Rating:
Pros: Good Value
Cons: Complicated, More Trouble To Fill A Bobbin
This is my first new singer since my Touch Tonic 2000. I love the way the 160 looks as I grew up sewing on the treadle machine. The sewing is good but not as smooth as my 2000. However, Filling a bobbin is a pain if you run out while sewing on a project. The bobbin is also difficult to get out of the machine. On my Touch Tonic you could fill a bobbin without having to un-thread the machine. The needle threader is actually in the way for me. Lighting is not as good on this machine as it was on my old machine. So far this is the best machine of all I've tried and I plan on keeping it. Some features could have been better. Thanks for the old fashion look!
