Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

I bought this as a sewing machine to teach myself on. It's easy to learn to work. I've had it set up for about 2 weeks now and just finished my first project of pajamas for my 7 year old who is thrilled with them

Bobbin Tension Is A Little Tricky

I'm a new sewer, but I do have a good understanding of how to sew. I struggled a little with this machine's tension on the bobbin, but once I figured that out, I'm all set. I really love this machine. The quality of stitches is great. I highly recommend reading through the instruction manual prior to use. It offers easy-to-understand directions and good information.

Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Extra Lift On The Presser Foot For Thick Items.
Threader Is Annoying.

My family bought me this machine for mother's day. I LOVE it. It is very versatile for the types of things I like to sew and operates so smoothly. The choice of stitches and lengths make it fun to sew crafty items. I could do without the automatic threader it just gets in my way. My only other complaint is I'd love to buy the extension arm and am having difficulty locating one. Overall this machine is sewing like a breeze for me and for the money is a great value and great quality.

Poor Quality

I have had to buy 2 of these 5500's, the first one didn't even sew down one side of a pillow case I tried to mend. It fell apart in behind the bobbin case. Exchanged it for another one and actually got one western shirt finished with it before it gave up too! I guess it is not made for denim? I have been sewing on a Singer for 50 years, (I learned on a treadle) and was verrry disappointed in the cheapness of this machine. It just sounds tinny. Now my machine is in the warranty shop for Singer and it has been since the 9th of October. Every time I call on it they tell me they are still waiting on parts. I will never buy another Singer.

Poor Quality

This was a refurbished machine. It was great to start with. I stitched for two three days and within a week of purchase it started puckering. Then it gave a c4 error. Then it's needle wouldn't move although I tried to clean the bobbin area after opening the whole thing under the machine I.e. The bobbin and it's attachments. There was nothing else I could do as everything was sealed and with electronics you can't do much as you can do in manual sewing machine. The handle did move and the motor did start but the error wouldn't go and machine wouldn't stich. So I tried calling the servicing guys but they were far placed so I returned the machine. Now I am missing the stitching pleasure and don't know if all electronic machines would stop working all of a sudden? The problem although cleared, wouldn't reset the machine to start back again? I am confused and upset.
