Cons:Few Features, Poorly Designed Features.

I was coaxed into the purchase with the promise of built in serge capabilities, but this was not true.
I thought I would at least be thrilled to have a knit stitch, which it does, but the very first piece I tried was a semi-delicate knit, and it bunched and chewed up the fabric terribly. The stitches were too tight, and I could not believe there was no option for choosing the length on a knit stitch, which makes it useless to me in so many instances, since I have turned to wearing mostly knits. I walked away from the damn thing and will be trying again this winter, but I expect there is nothing about this machine that would really have attracted me away from my old Riccar.
Pros:Good Value, Great Features, High Quality, It Is A Singer That Says It All.
Cons:Complicated, Toutorial Is Bad. Or Non Existiant.

This machine is great for all the regular sewing projects, however when I was ready to use buttonhole maker it still has me baffled. I have been sewing for 60 yrs. Made everything you could imagine. I have tried for 3 wks to get attachment to work. I am really mad that I can't even get a real person to help me with this. The online information is not helpful. Singer has always been a great product and company , but it has changed. I want to talk to a person who can walk me through these attachments.
So far I haven't been able to get the automatic threader to work. I used to put in a zipper in jeans yesterday. Did a sufficient job but did not go through the layers of denim as easily as demonstrated. I haven't used it that much to give it a more thorough review.
Cons:Few Features, Expensive, Poor Instruction Manual On Attachments

I bought this on the spur of the moment and think I paid too much for it. I agree the manual is not very helpful, but I have sewn for years so have been able to manage. I miss the old way of selecting stitches, I preferred the stitches per inch rather than the 1 -4 numbers. A plus is that I can use my mother's attachments from a 60 year old Singer.
haven't been able to use it since tension is completely defective. Have checked everything and watched videos but no change. Waiting for reply from Singer. what good is a 25 year warranty if you can't get it to work

No machine is perfect but this one comes close for me! I don't need one for embroidery, I can do that by hand and enjoy it. I need one for good sewing ability and one that I can change stitches fast and one that has a needle threading feature on it and this one has that. I make costumes for my daughter who is a drama teacher and I have to be fast because usually the most time I have is six weeks and her casts can have as many as 50 teens in them and sometimes I have less time. Also I am trying to teach some of these young people how to use the machine and this machine is simple enough to do that and not confuse them. You MUST read the directions before you use this machine you cannot assume that it operates the same way as your old machine, it does not.
Paid extra for the auto threader and cannot get it to work. At the demonstration, the operator ran it over 7 layers of denim and over a piece of wood. When I used it over 4 layers of fabric the machine chugged along very slowly and I actually had to move the fabric myself. It is ok for basic stitches, but my old machine already did that. Machine is very light for use with heavy fabrics. When I did my research after purchasing it, I could have purchased it for less at another store.

I love it--I haven't sewed a lot in the past few yrs-besides mending & small projects. I wore out my previous Singer of 35 yrs however. The new features on this machine has gotten my involved with more projects & is so easy to use-----
I bought this machine a little over a year ago. This is the 2nd time i've used it and the handwheel is totally bound up. There are no knots in the bobbin area, the needle is
new, I now, have to take it an hour away to be fixed. I miss my 1969 Singer Touch and Sew :(
I bought the singer scholastic 5523 on 4/16/2011 so I could sew quilts and serge easly. This machine is a piece of junk. I've already had it in the shop because it jumped time and now one month later it has done it again. I'm 57 years old and have sewed for many years and I have never had the trouble this machine has given me. One a scale of one to ten I give this one a 0! I would NOT recommend anyone to buy it!
