  • 600 Built-In Stitches
  • Fulfill your creative dreams with a large selection of stitches including basic, decorative and stretch stitches for clothing construction, quilting, home décor and crafting.
  • 13 Fully Automatic 1-Step Buttonholes
  • Buttonhole sewing is a simple 1-step process providing reliable results every time. The sides of the buttonholes are sewn in the same direction to prevent gaps in stitching or fabric distortion.
  • Exclusive Buttonhole Underplate
  • The buttonhole foot with underplate sandwiches fabric between a lower plate and the foot to ensure perfect buttonholes on multiple layers of fabric. Effectively, this is like a mini-embroidery hoop in which the machine feeds the attachment, rather than the fabric. It makes creating buttonholes possible in places that conventional buttonhole devices cannot easily reach.
  • Automatic Thread Cutter
  • Instantly trims the top and bobbin threads at the touch of a button
  • Automatic Needle Threader
  • Sewing’s biggest timesaver! This feature makes threading the eye of the needle quick and easy.
  • Automatic Stitch Length & Width
  • Optimal settings for stitch length and width are automatically set, but can be overridden for more personalized sewing.
  • Needle Up/Down Button
  • Pressing this button when the machine is stopped will change the needle position from down to up or from up to down.
  • Extension Table Included
  • The included extension table provides a larger working area, an essential for quilting or when working with a larger project.
  • Large Back-Lit LCD Screen with Brightness Control
  • Provides clear and easy viewing of stitch functions including stitch length, stitch width, tension settings, recommended presser foot, needle up/down position and more! Easily adjust the screen brightness.
  • Top Drop-In Bobbin System
  • The bobbin loads from the top, so it is easy to insert the bobbin. The clear cover makes it easy to monitor the bobbin thread supply.
  • 5 Built-In Alphabets
  • Personalize projects by adding a monogram, name or phrase with the built-in block or script style numbers and alphabets, both available in upper and lower case, stitched at 5mm stitch width.
  • Mirror Imaging and Elongation Functions
  • With just a touch of a button, selected stitches can be mirrored imaged, adding even more stitch variety. Press the Elongation button and selected stitches can be made up to 5 times longer
  • Electronic Auto Pilot
  • Unplug the foot control, press the Start button and the machine sews. You are still in complete control over the speed - just slide the Speed Lever to the desired speed.
  • 7mm Stitch Width
  • Most stitches can be set for a maximum width of 7mm creating attractive satin and decorative stitches.
  • 2 StayBright™ LED Lights
  • Two lamps illuminate the sewing surface for optimal viewing. The long-lasting bulbs (100,000 hours) are always cool to the touch.
  • Heavy Duty Metal Frame
  • The internal skeleton of the sewing machine is constructed of heavy duty metal. This rigid support holds all the mechanisms in perfect alignment for skip-free sewing and overall durability
  • 25 Needle Positions
  • Needle position can be changed for individual projects like inserting zippers, cords and topstitching.
  • Electronic Twin Needle Settings
  • Stitches are automatically adjusted for twin needle sewing with just the touch of a button.
  • Drop Feed
  • A conveniently located lever lowers the feed dogs for free-motion embroidery, monograms and button sewing.
  • 7-Segment Feeding System
  • This is a specially designed feed system that ensures that the fabric is picked up and supported from the front of the presser foot to the rear. This provides for much more accurate feeding of the fabric.
  • Box Feed
  • This is a function that moves the feed dogs in a box motion, rather than the historic arc motion. Box motion assures perfect feeding throughout the entire feed process, as the feed dogs are always in perfect and equal contact with the fabric and presser foot.
  • Six Second Threading
  • Threading the machine is so easy that you can have the entire machine threaded, from the spool to the needle’s eye, in just six seconds
  • Automatic Locking Stitch Function
  • Tie-off decorative and utility stitches with just a push of a button. This feature ensures quality stitching and prevents unraveling.
  • Automatic Reverse
  • Push the conveniently located Automatic Reverse Button to sew in reverse and reinforce the stitch.
  • Horizontal Threading
  • Allows for the thread to feed more evenly reducing poor stitch formation and thread breakage.
  • High Sewing Speed
  • With a maximum sewing speed of 850 stitches-per-minute, projects can be sewn quickly.
  • Automatic Bobbin Winding Clutch
  • Needle bar automatically disengages when winding the bobbin, making bobbin winding safer.
  • Direct Button Stitch Selection
  • Provides direct access to eight of the most popular stitches including straight, zigzag, blind hem and buttonhole
  • Stitch Reference Chart
  • This chart, located on the upper lid of the machine, allows you to quickly choose the perfect stitch for your project – eliminating tedious screen searching.
  • Automatic Tension
  • This system ensures stable stitch quality, regardless of fabric type. The tension can be adjusted using the tension adjustment buttons, if desired.
  • Extra-High Presser Foot Lifter
  • The Presser Foot Lifter has two heights. The second offers more clearance, which is needed when placing multiple layers of bulky fabric under the presser foot.
  • Free Arm
  • Provides easy access to cuffs, collars, pant hems and other difficult-to-reach areas
  • Center Zigzag Taper
  • When tapering with the zigzag stitch, the stitch tapers to the center, not the left or right. This feature is especially valuable when appliquéing, because it provides a more attractive look when tapering into or out from a point.
  • Automatic Presser Foot Pressure Control
  • The amount of pressure exerted on the fabric by the presser foot against the feed dogs is adjusted automatically. Sew from the lightest weight tricots to the heaviest denim, without making adjustments.
  • Error Warning
  • An audible warning alerts the sewer if something is incorrect. The audible warning can be deactivated, if desired. A picture appears on the LCD screen illustrating the probable error.
  • Optimum Power Control
  • A control system that senses when additional power is required to maintain speed through thick or changing fabric conditions. This feature is most useful when sewing through multiple (6-8) layers of fabric.
  • DC Motor
  • Provides instant start and stop with no coasting, for accurate and precise stitch placement
  • Snap-On Presser Feet
  • Easily change snap-on presser feet without use of a screwdriver.
  • Included Presser Feet
  • All-Purpose Foot (on machine), Zipper Foot, Button Sewing Foot, Satin Stitch Foot, Buttonhole Foot and Underplate, Open Toe Foot, Blind Hem Foot, Overcasting Foot, Narrow Hem Foot, Cording Foot, Straight Stitch Foot, Darning & Freehand Embroidery Foot, Even Feed / Walking Foot, Adjustable Bias Binder Foot, Single Welt Cording Foot, Braiding Foot with Guide, Clear Piping Foot, Stitch in the Ditch Foot, Fancy Trim Foot

Love, love, LOVE this machine!!!!!

Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I wanted to make sure I had this machine long enough to write an accurate review. It seems like the longer I have it, the more creative things I find to do with it. I absolutely love this machine! The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is the choice for the needle to stop up. The needle automatically stops down and with the click of a button you can make it go up, but often times I forget and try to take the fabric out when the needle is down. I just wish it had the option of having it stop up OR down, however the seamstress chooses. Now for the pros:

--> I love the capability to write words and designs, then simply press start and it does it all for you. You of course have to guide the fabric, but you don't have to deal with the pedal. You can use the pedal if you want to.

--> I love that it shows what presser foot to use with each stitch. If I didn't know, I'd use the general foot all the time and you really do need to know which foot is a better choice for each stitch. I also recommend Lorna Knight's books that go into detail about each foot and stitches to use with each foot, etc. She helps you get the most out of your machine.

-->The automatic bobbin winding clutch is pretty awesome. I've never owned a machine with one and it's pretty cool to simply push it over and it winds it up for you. Just make sure the thread is straight or you'll end up with thread below the bobbin, like what happened to me once.

--> I love the auto lock stitch. Simply push the button before or after sewing a design and it will lock the stitch for you. You can also use it when you are using several designs in a row and it will stop it for you. If you don't use this, the design will continuously sew, which I like having these two options.

--> The error warning and animation is very helpful for me. Simply look at the screen and it will tell you what is wrong.

--> I like the extension table that is included and lots of presser feet.

--> The automatic needle threader is the best one I've experienced with so far. I've had the

Futura CE250 and XL400. The 9960 is the best. It is very simple and accurate. Do make sure you have the needle in the right way. It won't automatically thread and won't sew correctly using different presser feet if it's in wrong.

--> The speed control is very helpful.

--> The automatic thread cutter is helpful for large projects such as quilts, but anything small you might as well use the regular cutter.

--> Sews very smooth and quiet, has many designs to choose from, the sky's the limit on what you can do with this machine.

Get creative and have fun! Did I mention how much I love this machine?

Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I had read the reviews here on Singer.com, Amazon.com and PatternReview.com and came to the conclusion that if 99.9% of the people who purchased this machine were happy then I'd give it a go myself. I am so glad I did, I love my new Singer!! I haven't had Singer machine in a long while, my last was a 1960s model slant machine that my Mom gave me when she got a new machine. I do still have a vintage Singer 201 in original cabinet that was given to me by a friend, it still sews like a dream but has only basic stitches.

I needed a machine that I could take to quilting classes, my Viking Designer SE is just too big to tote around. The 9960 is just heavy enough to be steady when sewing at max speed and also give it a good non flimsy feel. I love the curved front design, mine also has a pretty design on the right lower front, I've heard some come without the design, perhaps an earlier run of the model.

The 9960 surprised me in that it sews smoothly, straight and the stitches are all well formed. The auto thread cutter at this price point ($329 on Amazon.com) is unheard of in most brands, it works well, very important if I'm free motion quilting.

I love all the feet that came with my machine, there was a bag labeled "Value added acessories" that wasn't even mentioned in the description on Amazon, it contained several specialty feet that would have cost at least $75 to purchase separately. The buttonholes are fantastic, I tried them on fleece, linen, double knit and all were just lovely. The variety of deco stitches included is nice to have, the alphabets are not that pretty but I hardly use them on my Viking so I don't mind. I am still curious as to why there would be a Russian alphabet on this machine. I did ask Singer and they replied they did not know why either? Oh well, no matter.

The machine also came with a hard cover with storage area and a slide on extension table! I really am in awe of what came with this machine and all that it can do. I would recommend the 9960 to any type of sewer. It is not too difficult to learn to use it, one does need to read the manual thoroughly though as it does have things you need to pay attention to that will make or break your sewing experience. I used sticky notes stuck at the edge of the pages I thought I might need to refer back to so I could find them easily.

The only thing missing from the 9960 that I would have paid extra money for is a knee lift for the presser foot.

One last thing. I use to teach adult sewing. The single most biggest frustration students had was only because they didn't have the right needle/thread/settings combination to sew the fabric they wanted to use. It is not the machine's fault if you try to sew a knit with heavy cotton thread and a blunt non ballpoint needle and have the machine set for a tiny stitch! It will not work and people will blame the machine. Education for proper sewing technique is all over the internet, for free or at your nearest public library. If you are a new sewer please educate yourself before beginning your project AND read your sewing machine's manual front to back as well.

Happy sewing to all!

Good Value, Great Features
Jams Easily

I have owned the 9960 Quantum Stylist for about a month. I was so excited to replace my older machine of 25 years. Once I figured out how to use some of the features I have been sewing practically every day.I love that it is much quieter and has more to offer. However, my biggest complaint would be that the thread jams frequently and can be a little difficult to untangle the knotted mess under the feeddog. The upper thread has a tendency to break often due to the tension becoming overly tight. I have been disappointed in my purchase and would not recommend it to others.

Dvd Needed

I am very pleased with my new machine but am a novice to anything but a plain sewing machine; I would love a instructional dvd so I can use the machine to it's full potential. The book doesn't explain things enough for me not to wreck the machine accidentally. Please please come out with a dvd I would really like to get into embroidery and quilting.

Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Extra Pieces And Tools

I love this sewing machine. I'm new to making quilts and this machine has all the necessary tools I need. It's also very quiet, and it's easy to transport to quilting classes, too. The only problem: When I put a rolled up quilt between the needle and the right side of the machine, sometimes I accidently hit one of the push buttons and that changes the stitch I'm using! Then I have to turn off the machine and reset the stitch. It would have been better to locate the push buttons further away from the sewing area to accommodate a large amount of fabric.
