Could be a great machine

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

23 out of 23 people found this helpful.

Sewing on this machine is enjoyable. I would list the pros first. It zips over seams without hesitating and sews as fast as you'd care to go. It is heavy enough that it stays in place and doesn't move around like some portables can.

The dials and settings are easy to read and understand. I change fabrics often from light to heavy weight, and the tension is easily adjusted and not fussy.

Since I use my machine primarily to make quilt tops, I have little need for a lot of fancy stitches I won't use and find the selection of stitches on the 4411 more than adequate for that and also most garment and home sewing needs.

I love being able to see how much thread is left on the bobbin through the plastic window, and that it is a drop-in. I also love the way the thread spool is designed, because it doesn't want to ride up and fly off the spindle at high speeds. The thread feeds out nicely and the machine produces a lovely, even stitch.

I would have rated this machine at five stars if it weren't for the cons. It is very easily threaded until you reach the last two thread guides on the shank before the needle. They are close together and the thread is hard to slide into position. I also find when threading the needle, the clearance is so close it's hard to catch the thread when it passes through the eye. The lever to raise and lower the presser foot is small, and I have to hunt for it. I don't consider this a major issue so much as an annoyance.

The instruction manual is minimal to a fault. One should not have to go online to find out this particular machine does not have to be oiled. Minor things like the screws holding the faceplate down over the feed dog and needle area being mounted too tightly are an issue. One cannot do routine maintenance like brushing out thread lint if one cannot get to the bobbin chase. I couldn't without risking damage to the screw heads.

I used the machine six weeks whenl it developed issues in the bobbin assembly. The timing seemed to be fine, with the thread catching on the hook appropriately, but it intermittently would catch on the bobbin chase and not be able to clear it, and the chase appeared to be loose and noisy. I returned the unit and bought another just like it.

I have had this new machine for a week now, and still could be happier with how the bobbin works. Occasionally the thread will slip out of the thread guide on the chase and I don't notice until the stitches go awry, then I have to stop and reseat the bobbin. I find this happens mostly with the thicker gauged cotton threads so had to switch over to thinner gauged poly thread.

DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE

Overall Rating: 1 star

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

I have been sewing for almost 50 years and have never had such a horrible machine. I recently purchased it and within one day it was jamming. I have a huge blister on my thumb from trying to get the turn wheel to go (there was NO thread or lint obstructing anything). My nearest authorized dealer is located almost 200 miles from my home. I have returned the machine for a full refund. I don't know if the features listed actually perform as I couldn't get the machine to actually sew! I would have been a good value if it had worked. You need to remove the word HEAVY DUTY from the product name!

Finally! A good heavy duty machine!

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

This machine is great for heavy duty work. I sew a lot of leather articles such as moccasins, purses, belts, etc. and this machine does a great job! I like the slower speed feature, and that I don't have to guide the material as much as on my older (15 years) Singer machine. Also, I am glad that this machine uses all my old bobbins, and feeding the thread to the needle is even easier than on my old machine.

Great Sewing Machine for the Money

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I just purchased this sewing machine and sewed for 5 hours on it. Love it! I have a $1500.00 machine(another brand) and the tension on it keeps messing up and it is very expensive to repair. I needed some repairs on clothing so, I purchased this machine today due to it's low cost. I hemmed jeans, hemmed some skirts," took- in" some clothing and I am so impressed with the ease of this machine and the features it offers. It sews like a much more expensive machine would sew. As far as I am concerned, the $1500.00 machine can be sold on ebay and I will sew contently on this one. Go Singer!

I've had to buy 2, breaks easily

Overall Rating: 2 stars

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality, Expensive, Easily Damaged

8 out of 9 people found this helpful.

Pros: It's awesomely fast and zips through most fabrics without any issue. It's sturdy and easy to use and WHEN it's working I actually enjoy using it very much.
CONS: Because the machine claims to be heavy duty you would think that you could sew heavy duty fabrics like denim, you would be wrong. My 1st machine's timing for the belt (for the top thread to be caught by the hook under the bobbin to make a stitch) was thrown off by trying to sew through 2 layers of denim. My 2nd one now has the same problem but instead of it being caused by something heavy like denim this time it couldn't seem to handle a jersey knit, after ONLY 4 DAYS!!! The bobbin tension is also very temperamental and thread kept getting caught under the foot plate, again with just jersey.
This machine is better than my first, a Singer Quick Fix (which to its credit is the only Singer I've had that hasn't broken but is equally as temperamental), but I will definitely rethink Singer during my next machine purchase. For the price of this model it absolutely is not worth the hassle of working around 2 broken machines.

Not Up To Task

Overall Rating: 2 stars

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

8 out of 9 people found this helpful.

This machine may be okay for the occassional home sewer, but the machine I purchased has not proven to be useful for every day sewing for repair of technical outerwear. The gear I repair ranges from light weight nylon to canvas weight and I've gone through more needles in three months with this machine than I do in a year on my older machine. The bobbin tension is extremely difficult to regulate and very frustrating. The slightest pull on material while sewing makes the needle go off mark and my needle plate cover is damaged beyond use. Not for professional use in my opinion.

I have had this machine for a few weeks and am very pleased with it's capabilities. I purchased it for sewing heavy fabrics, duck and denim for bags, nail aprons, tool rolls, zip up tool bags, etc. It will sew 2 and 3 layers of duck with no problem. I use a 18 needle and carpet thread. Of course I am also sewing lighter fabrics with no problem at all with smaller needles and thread. I am proceeding slowly as I am self taught and the results are just outstanding.
The price was very right for the capabilities of this machine.

Definitely meets my needs!

I had bought a Juki to handle my heavier projects, but it was overkill for what I needed. I traded it out for something called a Mini Brute, which was a pathetic machine. I bought the 4411, and I've been totally happy with the performance. I do a lot of home decor projects for customers, and the 4411 meets my every need, and for several hundred dollars less than I had originally spent on the Juki. I also own 4 other Singer machines, and love them. I've owned Singers since 1973. My daughter is still using my old Athena 2000!

Good Machine For It's Price Range

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great Features

6 out of 6 people found this helpful.

I have owned Singer machines before and read both good and bad reviews for this machine. From my own experience I's say this machine gives you value for its price range: no more, no less.
I had no problem sewing through layers with this machine, but remember this: this machine is for heavy duty HOME use, not heavy duty COMMERCIAL use.
Most of the new machines are more "touchy" about using the right needle or setting the tension than the old machines (my old machine was from the 1980s.
Luckily, the owner's manual details setting the tension and even has a section on needle and thread sizes for different types of projects. Novice seamstresses will be successful on this machine if they read the owner's manual. Just don't "push" this machine as if it were a COMMERICIAL hesvy duty machine.

Basic Sewing

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated

6 out of 7 people found this helpful.

I have had the 4411 for about a month. I use it to mend and do minor alterations. I definitely do not enjoy sewing. I have mended several items including a heavy canvas strap and this machine did fine. The motor on my old machine ( over 50 years) went up so there is a bit of a learning curve on this one. I find the instruction book awkward to use because of the language layout. Also the diagram for the threading the upper thread was unclear. The slotted take-up lever in the step 6 was not apparent, nor did the direction suggest that the handwheel needed to be turned to bring this lever up.
I also had difficulty with the drop in bobbin which is probably because the bobbin case on my old machine was under the needle plate cover. Finally, I have difficulty threading the needle. Even in the highest position, the eye of the needle is so close to the needle plate cover that I must actually remove the needle to thread it.

WOW, What a Machine!

My 14 year old daughter cut up all of her old jeans and wanted to make a rug out of them. She pinned them together and it actually looked very nice. When I decided to help her sew it together, I went through two sewing machines that I had at my house, neither worked. I had one repaired and it broke down again, immediately! The other was a VERY old electric machine. Neither could do the job. I was about to farm the job out to a seamstress when I found this machine at a local fabric store. I purchased it and tried it out immediately on that denim rug. WOW, What a Machine! I can't believe how smoothly it went through up to 4 layers of denim without a hitch! I would recommend this machine to anyone, even beginners because it is so easy to use!

Almost Perfect

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Few Features

4 out of 4 people found this helpful.

this machine is pretty good for the price. i'd been sewing on a 40+ year-old singer until it finally gave out recently, and this seemed closest to that which i was used to. it's got the standard features, which are all i need, and it's easy to understand. the only drawback i've found so far is that the handwheel doesn't have any grip to it, so using it can be difficult (i've put one of those "livestrong" wristbands around it to add some grip, which is working well for now).

I had the older heavy duty model before purchasing this one. The older model of this machine was very expensive and had problems that came from the high speed..However, I was glad to see that Singer ironed out the problems and was able to give us a great machine for almost half the price. The speed on this one is fast but not as fast as the other. But it has no tension problems or bobbin issues. Easier to use too! I sew a lot of garments... Ive worked this machine for 12 to 18 hours at a time. NO problems! Just clean it and keep moving.

I'm very happy with the machine. The only thing I would suggest is that you send machines with metal bobbins. The plastic one did not perform properly and had trouble with tension adjustment & performance.

Cons: Poor Quality, Not Reliable, Breaks Easily

I bought this model 4411 for my adult daughter for her birthday. She is a beginnning sewer and I thought this would be a good basic "heavy duty" model to begin with. We have had nothing but trouble with it since I gave it to her. I have had 40 years of experience with sewing and have owned a Singer myself for 25 years. My daughter wanted to learn how to sew and we began with a project for curtains made out of bedsheets. Nothing heavy duty there. Within 5 hours of sewing with this model the thread tangled and the machine would not pick up the bobbin thread - the timing went out. So I had that fixed. Then it kept making "thread bouquets" and there would be multiple threads at once in the bobbin case and the machine would get stuck. So I had that fixed. When I used it again to test it after being "fixed", lo and behold, more thread bouquets. In other words multiple tangles of threads on the underside of the two layers of fabric. This machine is less than a year old, has been used less than 10 hours, has been fixed twice, and is still not sewing correctly. And yes, I am experienced and know how to put in bobbins and how to thread a machine correctly. This is the last Singer machine I will ever purchase! I need a new machine myself and will look for a different brand. Would definitely not recommend Singer anymore. Piece of poorly made junk in my experienced opinion!

I purchased the machine in March thinking it was Heavy Duty it should be a strong machine that should last me a little while. I used it roughly 8 hours and the timing went off. I contacted Singer as it was only 5 months old and couldnt get a responce It costed me $135 to fix the machine. Honestly thinking about selling the machine and looking at a different brand. I would not buy another Singer.

Do not buy 4411 model

Overall Rating: 1 star

Cons: Poor Quality

2 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I bought the 4411 machine in June, used it a couple of days for a VBS project. Used it the second time in October, it locked up while sewing, I couldn't turn the wheel and neither could the lady at the store. The store replaced it with a new machine. Used the second machine a few days and it kept making a funny noise off and on. The lower thread kept getting all balled up and it was the same thread I used in the first machine which worked in that aspect. I took that machine back for a refund. Haven't received check yet, but it is coming by mail. Buy something else.

Adequate machine

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

I bought this machine as a second machine to be used at a vacation home. It performs well for the price and is a better machine than many of the lower priced plastic machines. I would not recommend it to anyone who is not already an accomplished sewer and who has the patience to put up with a few issues. the threading is simple and well accessed up to the point where you feed the last two threading points before threading the needle, very awkward to thread at this point. The bobbin does not wind evenly. The presser feet are easy to attach to presser foot shank but attaching the shank to the machine with the provided screw is awkward, the screw head is too small for fingers and the slot for the screwdriver is too wide and the driver continually slips out. The power is good and the stitch tension is good and even. I prefer a manual machine over a computerized one and this model has all of the zigzag stitches that I require.

I sew on a daily basis. I've been sewing since I was 5 years old....now 60! I have always owned a Singer Sewing Machine. This is my 3rd one and I love it! Very easy. Within minutes I was a pro! I had to buy it quick as my old one broke down and I couldn't wait to get it repaired. It will become my back-up. Still a great machine even after 30 years. The 4411 is a great machine for a beginner or for someone who sews often, like me!

I was a trained sewer as a child with many classes. I stopped sewing for many years and have now returned. I got this machine on sale and could not be happier. It has everything you need and more. Great accessories, length, width, tension and stitch type selections. It works seamlessly (pardon the pun)and consistently. You will have to adjust the settings at first to your liking, but I love this machine. A great machine for an occasional sewer. Great for garments, curtains mending and I am sure, much, much more!

Cons: Knots

I am a guy and am new to sewing. I was attracted to this machine because it said heavy duty and wasn't covered in flowers or pastel colors. I wanted simple and dependable, what I got was knots, knots and more knots; all on the first day. The manual is very basic and no real help. I've done some reading online and tried some of the fixes but I've decided to take it back while I still can.

JoAnn does not stand behind there vender, “ Singer” and “Singer” will not Stand behind JoAnn Fabrics. Very upset. Where is our customer service?

Model 4411 Heavy Duty Machine

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Too Many Removable Parts That Go Missing

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

I am a Sewing Teacher and have been provided with this Heavy Duty machine to use in my classsroom. Overall the product is a good value and has all that is required for classroom instruction. However these machines are put through the test everyday, twice a day so they are well used. A few problems that have come up while using these machines are that the thread comes out of the take up lever and when continue to sew the machine gets jammed. The fact that the needle plate cover is totally removable does not lend itself well to the classroom setting as I have students who take them out and have lost a number of these plate covers and I am having a hard time tracking down replacement parts for this machine. The students play with the button to remove the needle plate cover and some are losing their spring to pop up as well.I have also lost a number of the auxillary spool pins as the students remove them or they break off easily.I like using the auxillary spool pin rather than the horizontal spool pin so that I dont have to give the students the part to hold on the thread when using the horizontal spool pin as this would be just another part that may go missing. Also the removable storage unit in the front of the machine has broken off the small plastic hinges that hold it in place.

This machine is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a simple MACHINE, not a computer. It is basic and has only features that I will actually use for the types of sewing I do, which is simple household projects, repairs and the occasional craft project. It's super easy to use, lightweight and so far, I haven't had a hiccup even when sewing thick fabric layers. I had considered buying one used, but the price was right for a new one. I am very happy and satisfied with this machine.

Does the Job

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great For Multiple Thickness Of Fabric.

Cons: Good Use A Push Button Reverse., The Plastic Gives It A Cheap Toy Look.

The machine is louder than any others I have and have used. I think it would be much better if it had a push button for the reverse instead of what it has.
It does a GREAT job in sewing through multiple thickness of fabric. A metal casing would be nicer than the plastic. The plastic makes it look cheap and like a toy. If you need to sew heavy duty this is the machine to get.

As a retired basic beginner who is SLOWLY remodeling a home, I found a Singer machine online that would allow me to work at my own pace and save money. My initial objective was to create cafe curtains and valences and I discovered that by sewing my own would pay off the machine after only sewing a few sets (and I have many to do). Great, Easy Machine

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

I am new to sewing and chose this machine because it is what I'm familiar with in my sewing class. I had a little trouble getting it started right out of the box- the needle that came in the machine was not properly lined up, so when I started sewing, the needle broke. The tip flew up, nearly hit me in the eye, and the other part of the needle was stuck in the machine. I replaced the needle, ensured it was lined up, and started sewing almost immediately. I did wear safety goggles at first just to make sure if the needle broke again, it couldn't fly into my eye. I was pretty upset that the needle that came with the machine and was seemingly in place- really wasn't.

Other than that initial incident, I'm very happy with my machine. It is the only machine I've ever (which is why I gave this 4 stars) used, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it gets the job done!

great little machine

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Can Change Length And Width Of Stitches With Ease

I love it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that with this machine you have the ability to set your own width and length AND the needle can change positions. I found that some of the new machines have only the preset stitches and you do not have the option to change the width or the length. I have been very happy with this machine and it is heavy duty. I have no trouble sewing thru heavy materials. I LOVE this machine!!!

Broke in 8 months

Overall Rating: 1 star

Pros: Fast Machine

Cons: Poor Quality

I bought this machine to use for daily sewing. I don't think it was made for that much use. The death of the machine happened 8 months after I got it when I dropped the feed dogs, they would not come back up. I have seen others comment on the same problem. So, just don't ever drop the feed, and you should be okay...but it's a feature that SHOULD work if it's on the machine. Not a very good machine, quality wise either.

Overall I really like the machine.
The machine did jam easier than I expected. I found no thread in the bobbin area. I had just finished making 20 2" buttonholes. Could that be the cause? You wouldn't think so as it is a heavy duty machine. No problem when I next used it. .
No instructions in the manual for removal & reinsertion of bobbin case. I found the answer in users blogs.
The machine is factory lubricated, wish the manual told me this. Also there is no warrenty service in my area.
