Steam Options

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I like the digital fabric settings because they are specific for each type of material. There are several settings for the amount of steam which is good. Also the fill for water has a cover on it.

A New Generation for Electric Ironing

Overall Rating:

Quality feeling to the construction, clarity of instructions in the owner's manual, convenience of use (ordinary tap water, for example), electronics to signal heat-up and connect that information with type of fabric, also heats up very fast, and most of all good, steady steam and burst of it when I need it.

The worst iron ever!

Overall Rating:

Pros: No Pros

Cons: Poor Quality, Complicated, Did Not Function As Described

I purchased through an Amazon portal after seeing a great Consumer Reports review and didn't see a local retailer.

I followed the start-up instructions before using. This iron never fully heated without the steam function on, once that was engaged the iron would start making a loud beeping alarm and flash "EAA" on the LED screen as it overheated from which it would only stop after being unplugged. After trying again a few days later, it started the same process described above the minute it was plugged in. The iron grew so alarmingly hot that I had to unplug it or feel that it was a complete hazard.

I contacted Amazon & the seller, Essex Technology Group, and was told that I had exceeded the 45-day return window - no excuses allowed. Therefore, I went and purchased a Rowenta.

Great Iron

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Filling Door

Best iron I've ever used. Lightweight and easy to hold. The only concern is the door to the water filling hole. I had another iron (Black & Decker) years ago that had the same type of design and the door broke off after a couple of years of use so that was the end of using that iron. I don't see where that part can be ordered for this iron in case this happens. But that's the only con I have with this iron. I'm very happy with its performance and design. I bought this iron to replace a Rowenta that was twice the price when I bought it and never performed as well as this one. I found out about this iron from Consumer Reports which gave it a high rating. I see why they did and I also can recommend this iron.

I had an iron similar to this for years, and it finally died. I was looking for one close to the one that I had and of course they didn't make those anymore and then I found the Singer. Had same features as my other one.

best iron I've had

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Light And Very Smooth, With Lots Of Heat Options. It's Also Refrshingly Simple.

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

So far, after 3 months of use, I think this is the lightest, smoothest iron I've owned in 50 years. Good price, and it seems my ironing goes much faster it glides along so smoothly. I like the extra heat it has for heavier fabrics. We'll see how it holds up over the years.

Disappointed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Easy To Use

1 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I purchased the product because of a review in Shop Smart. It does not seem to get as hot enough and does not steam when I am on the cotton setting with steam. I really can't be without an iron so I would have to purchase another, package this on up and return which I just have not gotten around to. Each time I iron I'm reminded how disappointed I am and need to remedy the situation - but life is very busy and just have not made the time. Your email prompted me again to do something - I should not feel regret, waste of money, and disappointment when I pick up the iron. So as soon as I have time to shop for another I will return the iron.

High marks for my Singer Expert Finish

Overall Rating:

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

Over the past 3 years, I have tried four different irons (different mfgrs, different price ranges, etc), but was disappointed by either the size (too large), the performance (didn't steam well), or the handling (comfortable feel). I am very pleased with my Singer Expert Finish iron and recommend it to anyone looking for a very good iron at a very good price.

I have been using the iron for a few weeks now in my quilting lessons and it has been very nice to use.
I am not a big fan of ironing but this iron heats up fast, and puts out a lot of steam. I like the fact that I can see the water level in the handle so I know when I should refill it.

faulty and poor customer service

Overall Rating:

4 out of 5 people found this helpful.

I purchased this iron on line and when it was delivered and I was setting it up I noticed that the book said there would be a beep for numerous functions. There is NO beep for ANY function as shown on pages 4, 7 and 8. I tried to call customer service but waiting 10 minutes with little progress on 2 occasions AND writing to the Talk2us email addr was unsuccessful until I tried a week later and emailed again. Finally about 2 weeks after the first attempt there was an email reply saying to package the product with appropriate paperwork and send it Singer Co. That being unworkable, I called customer service of the online company I had ordered from. They said to send int back and they would replaced. I did that costing me the return postage. I recieved a replacement product but NONE of the "beep"features work on it either :(((
What is my choice at this point since obviously there is a fault in the manufacturing process. I am very unhappy about this iron though it does iron very well
it is not as described in the pamphlet and I dont feel that it is the product as intended by Singer.

Great Iron, But...

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Expensive, Auto Shut Off Feature Too Short

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

I got this iron because it was on sale. I wanted to replace my Black & Decker iron (because it would "catch" the edge of fabric every time). This Singer iron is great, it does not catch on the edge of the fabric. Heats up very fast and emits lots of steam. Vertical steam is great too. Beeps when it's hot, temperature control is nice. It remembers your setting when you turn it off. Easy to understand settings for heat and steam. It even comes with a little water jug for refilling - which it does need to be refilled often if you use steam. The only gripe I have about this iron is the auto-off feature(s). When the iron is upright, it will turn off after 8 minutes. Well, 8 minutes is fine if I'm ironing a shirt, but if I'm sewing, I need it to stay on longer, perhaps 30. If the iron is down (on it's plate) it will turn off after 30 seconds, whether it's moving or not. The manual states that if you shake it gently, it will stay on, but this hasn't happened for me. Most seams take more than 30 seconds to press, so this is very annoying. If I had paid full price, I would probably return it. But, it only takes a few seconds to reheat, so I'll deal with it. Otherwise, I it's a great iron. Excellent quality and I love the non-stick plate.

LOVE This Singer EF Iron

I have searched for an iron that would be hot enough for linen. Wow, I love it. Made my dining linen crisp and smooth. Excellent features and easy to read digital display to get the right heat setting. Super easy to handle and add water for stream ironing. Best iron I've used in 20 years.

EF Steam Iron a winner!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Great Steam!

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

My wife, Diane, said she needed a new steam iron, and quick! She purchased a local "special buy" that died after a couple months so I went to work finding a "best buy" online. After checking Consumer Reports steam iron ratings, the Singer EF model looked like one she would appreciate with its features and strong steam capacities. I bought it online and received it just in time to catch up on the weekly ironing. The EF worked perfectly right out of the box and Diane says she finally has a steam iron worth using.

Thanks, Singer, for making me look good and for a superior product. Happy wife.....happy life! ;-)

Disappointing

Overall Rating:

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

Replacement for defective returned to Amazon, better than 1st but not good. Steams intermittently (maybe 70% of time), occasionally leaks streams of H2O on clothing. Have to keep re-setting temp or steam to start steam again. When it does , does real well.

Expert Finish Steam Iron

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Complicated, Needs To Be More Compact With No Leaks

Does a good job of ironing and removing wrinkles but with an occasional leak that stained fabric. Iron is both heavy and bulky, especially its man-sized handle, much too large for smaller hands.

An acceptable iron

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Good Quality

Cons: Temperature Settings Not Accurate

2 out of 3 people found this helpful.

Replaced an old Black and Decker when it "died." I like that after it shuts off when you turn it back on it remembers the temperature setting as long as it remains plugged in. Easy to fill, nice size handle form my larger hand. No confusion over the buttons for spray or steam. Two complaints. I feel the iron is "cold" I need to use higher settings than indicated on the electronic display. Setting 6 says wool but to obtain good results I need to iron wool on setting number 7 cotton as one example. Also the control for the amount of steam is easy to bump accidently up or down. It should have "click" settings to hold it in place. All in all for the price paid a good value and a decent iron.

Turns off too easily

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Light Weight, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Water Level Easy To Read

Cons: Auto-off Feature Is Too Sensitive, Steam Control Dial Could Be Larger

11 out of 12 people found this helpful.

This is almost the iron of my dreams for its light weight, abundant steam and easy-to-see water levels. The only negative I've found is the Auto-off feature activates frequently, even in the middle of moving the iron. Maybe I simply have a too-smooth technique when it comes to pressing, but have found the only way to keep it turned on is to jerk the iron each time I pick it up. Not helpful for the therapuetic, Zen-like experience I usually enjoy when ironing. Otherwise, it's a pleasure to use and great value.

No more cheap irons for me. I'm glad I found out about the Expert Finish and made the investment in it, although--for the value--it is not even that pricey!

I'm impressed by the ease of handling, in particular. It's the perfect weight, and I never get tired of working with it. The controls are not too complicated.

Best Iron Ever

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Great Steam Capacity

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

Have bought and used numerous brands of irons over many years. This one rates "Best Iron Ever". A bit heavier than some but not enough to affect ones selection. The steam output is far superior to all others which makes ironing time less than with other brands. A must have model for anyone that irons a great deal or anyone that hates pressing and re-pressing the same article over several times before it looks pressed.

My old Black and Decker iron had lost it's ability to iron out wrinkles. I checked Consumer Reports and saw an iron from Singer listed as a good choice. I contacted Singer with a couple of questions about the differences between the Perfect and Expert Finish irons. They responded quickly.
I bought the Expert Finish. I use the iron for sewing projects. It is light weight, heats quickly, doesn't drip.

Good but not great

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: See Above

11 out of 12 people found this helpful.

We find the Expert Finish iron warms up quickly to operating temperature, but does not "beep" when arriving at that temperature. We like the visual display of fabric temperatures and the buttons on the side that control the heat levels. The iron produces good amounts of steam and is not too heavy for a senior citizen.
The soleplate is indeed non-stick. In filling the iron with water, the water inlet cover does not have an "open" position where the cover is held open while filling is going on. Also, we find the filling process is slow, that the iron regurgitates the water if the operator tries to fill it too fast.
Surely, you can do better than that. Also, the iron uses, in our opinion, a lot of water to produce the steam. It requires fairly frequent fill-ups when you have a large amount of ironing.
Overall, though, you have a good product. It just could use a little upgrade here and there.

Cons: Expensive

It's an o.k. iron. First Singer EF Iron gave off no audible beep when temp reached nor when iron turned off as per instruction manual so returned for new. New Singer EF only gives off a "clunk" sound when temp reached and no sound when turned off. Other than that it is useable.

Where has this iron been all my life!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Easy To Use, High Quality, Lots Of Steam

7 out of 8 people found this helpful.

This first iron I ever recall owning was an old GE steam iron that I had and used for years. It's probably still working somewhere....it got lost in a move years ago. Since that time I have purchased at least 4 other steam irons. I've paid anywhere from $15 to $100 for them and none of them were to my satisfaction. I've had B&D, Rowenta, Shark but there was a problem of some sort with each one. Finally I happened across this Singer model. I love this iron. Biggest plus...STEAM!!!!! Lots and lots of STEAM!! I mean lets face it...why else do you buy a Steam Iron!!? Theres a few minor things that could be different....ie: A longer cord, the "beep" for low temperature warning is almost inaudible..(at first I thought it was my pacemaker..). The only real big improvement I could think of is a direct connect water hose to the sink! (kidding of course..or am I?...It could work I suppose...) Because is makes so much steam..it uses lots of water..but I don't care. It came with a plastic bottle to easily pour into the iron so I'll put up with that.

I've never paid more than $40 for an iron, but I've dont it so many times that I thought maybe if I get a "quality" iron it will stick around a while. Just purchased in August 2011, but so far so good. It heats up quickly, has tons of steam, and knocks wrinkles out of the worst situations with no problem. Hopefully it will continue to provide the same anti leak performance over time.

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I have tried several irons over the past several years because they were cheaply made and and not at all what they were described to be. I purchased a Rowenta 2 years ago because it was supposed to be the "Cadillac" of irons. It was great until it began leaking water everywhere. I would fill it, walk away for a minute and the ironing board was completely soaked. I just got my new Singer EF and it is wonderful. Great steam! I didn't even have to use spray starch on my husband's shirt to get the wrinkles out. It glides smoothly and I love the digital temp display. I do a lot of ironing and this iron has just made that job a whole lot easier.
