I have only made a few things with my new machine and I am just learning how to sew, so far so good! It is a very user friendly machine. I feel comfortable like I belong in front of this sewing machine. I think we are going to be best friends for a long time!!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Too Slow For A Professional Seamstress

Love everything about this machine except it isn't as fast as my previous 2 machines, but does have all the features that i need :automatic needle threader, excellent stitch quality, buttonholes are great, haven't tried the embroidery stitches yet but sure they are good too. Wishing i had gotten the industrial machine but may get that one down the road too.

So Far So Good Stylist 7258

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality, Threader

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

After 40 years (Singer) had to buy a new machine. So far I am just trying to get it threaded, etc. The only thing so far that I am not happy with is the CD that is really not for the Stylist 7258. It seems to be more for the basic machine. That is the reason I gave it a 4 Star. I will edit this later. I have found that I can go to UTube and find what I need, which doesn't say much for the CD. Singer I hope you are listening on this part!

Not a good experience

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality, Not Shipped Ready To Use

7 out of 7 people found this helpful.

I was so excited to get my new 7258 Stylist Singer Sewing Machine. After about a little less than 2 hours use, the motor froze up. I had to take it to a tech that was an hour and 20 minutes from my home just to look at it and was told the new Singer sewing machines are just not the machines they used to be. I was advised to try to get my money back from where I bought it. This was a very disappointing experience. My advice, if you decide to buy one, oil it, oil it, oil it as they are not shipped ready to go. Tech said it most likely didn't have enough lubrication in it when it was shipped from the factory.

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: A Bit Of A Plastic Feel To The Product

I like this little machine alot! I bought it to be secondary to my Viking. I wanted something smaller and lighter to take to a class. It has a very nice variety of stitches as well. I noticed the machine is quiet and compact. This is a great machine for new sewers as well as experienced people.

I bought this machine 4 years ago. And I just it frequently, I am in a sewing class and now the hand wheel is harder to turn and bobbin jams. C3 pops up and then i clean bobbin, I have clean the machine many times. I love this machine but I don't know what to do.

Love my new machine

Overall Rating:

I love the one step buttonholer. In fact that was the selling point for me. And it works wonderfully. I haven't had much chance to use my machine yet but so far I am very satisfied. It is easy to thread and the bobbin is easy to thread. Directions are great.

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I had a Singer machine of my mothers previously, that I really liked but it had got dropped and broken. So I decided to purchase another Singer. I must say I love my Stylist machine. It is perfect for me. I like all its features, the wide assortment of presser feet that came with it, especially the rolled hem foot! The manual is very well written and it came with a CD explaining the features and how to use them. I love the website also with the free projects and inspiration. Thanks Singer, you made hobby, so much more enjoyable.

Dissappointed

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Defective

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

I bought this machine because my other one was about 40 years old. It worked well for about 6 months. A month ago my bobbin case would pop out of the machine when I tried to sew. Once I got it SENT to another state (the closest "warranty center") they determined the timing was off and needed to do some tweaking. I got it back 3 days ago and already it stopped working and is doing the exact same thing again. I am beyond disappointed. I am having my mother-in-law ship my 40 year old machine back to me so I can use that instead of this awful machine.

Wonderfull! Perfect!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Comes With Many Unexpected Accessories, Perfect For A Beginner, Wonderfull For An Advanced Sewer

Cons: The Spool Pin Is Very Cheap Plastic, Not All Metal

Great Sewing Machine, Perfect for any Skilled sewer! it's just a bit pricey, but not too much. You definatley get more--if not what expected--than you paid for. The instruction manual and start-up guide were very thorough, and easy to follow. I gut up, running, and sewing in less than 15 minutes (Despite the guide saying 5-minute start-up guide) --but that's Ok.
It's extremely easy to thread, especially thanks to the automatic needle threader--very helpful. Though the machine isn't wholly made up of metal, it is the next-best thing, and very sturdy. it also makes it lighter to carry. On thing I am disappointed in the the spool pin. it is VERY cheap plastic--and though it hasn't broken or fallen off yet (I am careful) I'm sure it has it's weakness. I wish that were metal. But that's about the only con I have. that put aside,This sewing machine is great--you can sew anything from satin silk to chomping down thin to medium-thick leather, to embroidering and decor. (I wouldn't try thick leather, though) I've found all the stitches very helpful.

Accessories:
Comes with alot! all very nice, and helpful. Though it doesn't come with twin needle, it's capable of using one. and it DOES come with a luxury spool pin (the same cheap plastic) which you can use with a twin needle.

Oh! and one more con: the foot pedal could be made of metal INSTEAD of plastic, that would be nice. Anyways.

All in all, its a great sewing machine not to be overlooked.
I've had this Sewing machine for 5 months using it alot and nothing's gone wrong. sews smoothly, and efficiently.
Great for everybody! Don't overlook this opportunity! if your low on funds but want the high-quality jig with all the bells and whistles, this is the one for you!

7258 Stylist

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Quality Issue With The Auto Thread Feature Which Does Not Work On My Brand New Machine.d A Con

I recently bought a 7258 Stylist from my local Sears store. I am happy overall with the machine, BUT, the auto threading needle feature doesn't work. The mechanism won't drop and turn and I didn't want to force it. I tried calling the Singer customer service number several times and each time waited 45 minutes to an hour before hanging up without having my call answered. I read something about long wait times prior to buying the machine and hoped it wouldn't be a problem. It still is. Singer - you can and should do a lot better in that department. So, my auto threader still doesn't work on a brand new machine and I'm no closer to knowing where and how to get it repaired. Knowing this now makes me think I would have chosen another product based on poor customer service from Sears.

Great Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

This is the best sewing machine ever. It does all that they say it will do. It is easy to learn so far, but I have not used all of the features yet. It is somewhat hard to thread the needle. The automatic threader worked for one time and never again. Other than that it is so great. I made a quilt and a fancy dress for a great grandchild and it sewed both fabrics perfectly.

Great Machine for a novice

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I bought this machine to patch up and do some alterations to some of my clothing. I also thought that some day I would like to tackle some DIY backpacking gear.
This machine has been great, I had never used a machine before and with a couple trial runs to acquaint myself with it I've hemmed several pairs of pants and taken in the waist on a couple more. There are videos online that show exactly how to do it.

Great Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

This is my first sewing machine, and I'm not disappointed. It has a lot of great options, in regards to the numerous stitches one can use. The machine runs great, and after two months there have been no issues. Just make sure you use the recommended bobbin otherwise you may have issues. I like all the feet that came with the machine, even though I haven't used them all. Bobbins are easy to wind and I like that I can see how much thread is on my bobbin without opening the bobbin compartment. Great speed variable options. This allowed me to teach my daughter the basics. I like the option of having the machine help me thread my needle. It does great button holes. You really can't go wrong with this machine.

7258/Stylist - Best machine ever

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Try It - You Will Love It

The last Singer Sewing Machine I have was the Athena 2000. I loved this machine. It still sews, but with some problems. So I decided to purchase this cute little fantastic 7258/Stylist - best machine ever. It does everything my Athena 2000 does and sews beautifully. I made my daughter-in- law and granddaughter identical bib aprons and made my granddaughter's American Doll many doll clothes, that she loves so much. This machine is so easy to use and for the price I paid for it, was a bargain. It has 100 different designed stitches which is so easy to use. I also purchased the carrying case which makes it so easy to take with me when I go visiting my grand kids. I am so glad I invested my money into this wonderful sewing machine. Thanks

Love this machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Speed Control

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

I'm just a beginner, but I find this machine to be very easy to use, from the threading to the sewing. I especially like the speed control and bright light. The automatic threader I found to be confusing at first and just manually threaded the needle. I made two projects in the same night with this. A sewing machine cover (this does come with one but I wanted something more personalized) and a cover for my husband's printer. Highly recommend this machine, even though right now the extra 99 stitches I haven't tried yet. I wish the DVD that came with it was more machine specific.

Second Time Around So Far So Good

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

Bought the first machine from Amazon. Sewed one pair of pants, and something went wrong with the bobbin. It seemed like it was out of time and wouldn't pick up he thread from the bobbin. I gave up on it, sent it back and got another one from Amazon (Amazon was great). So farI used it 3 or 4 times and is ok. But it seems like this machine won't last like my 30 year old one.

Hugely Disappointed by Brand

Overall Rating:

Cons: Customer Service Nonexistent.

4 out of 6 people found this helpful.

My sewing machine worked fine for about a year. Then I encountered an error message that I could not resolve, and the entire bobbin case pops out every time I try to use it. I believe this is a timing issue that needs repair at a service center, but after three emails and numerous calls to the phone service center and literally hours on hold after which my call was dropped each time, I am completely frustrated. I would love to return the machine for my money back and go buy another Kenmore which is the brand I had for thirty years before purchasing this one.

Cons: Adwork Light Is Not Positioned Properly

Great Update for Everyday machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I do a lot of quilting and every day sewing and I have only had this machine for 2 months but it has been worth the buy. I had an older singer model and wanted an upgrade instead of getting that one fixed (it somehow lost parts when we moved). This machine is better than the one I had and I use it at least once if not more a week!

I bought this machine when the old digital machine that I had could not be repaired anymore because parts were not made for it anymore. Just as well it was not what I had expected all of 10 years ago and it will remain nameless. I love Singer machines and have had several over the years and this one is just as great as the others. They all do different things and this one is perfect for all of my everyday sewing and if I want to make a quilt it works well for that also. I brought it with me to visit my daughter because she was trying to relearn how to sew. Well with this machine it was no time and she was going strong. The only problem is when I went back home and took my machine with her and she had to use the old one I had given her many years ago. It is a singer also but very basic and she got spoiled by this wonderful machine. She is now saving up to get one of her own.

Easy to use machine - even for beginners

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use

I was given this machine as a birthday present from my MIL. I have never used a machine before, so I took a class at Jo-Ann's. Unfortunately I was told not to bring my machine as machines would be provided, only to learn that yes I was supposed to bring my machine! So, I ended up learning on a Viking. Fortunately this machine, even given the various ratings, IS easy and standard to use. It comes with a ton of stitch options, that I haven't used yet but so far, everything is great! I did have a question - sent in an email and within 24 hours received a thorough response from the Singer team. Very happy with this machine so far!

My awesome new toy!

Cons: Instruction Book/dvd Were A Little Confusing.

Wow! I am a beginner, and I have to say that this machine is a little smarter than me. Thankfully, it is very easy to use. 100 different stitches, sturdy construction, and quiet operation. I've made half my family travel pillows, and I'm ready to move on to more complicated projects.

I will say that I found youtube.com more helpful than the instructional DVD regarding getting clarification on confusing tasks. :)

I had a Singer machine for 35 years (it was used when I received it) and have been sewing since I was 10 years old. I received the 7258 Stylist for a 60th birtday gift. I have only used it to sew 7 pieces very lightweight cotton summer clothing and one lightweight polyester serge fabric dress. Just before the serge piece was completed the( about 20 inches of sewing to go) the bobbin case flipped up. I put in a new needle cleaned it and replaced the bobbin case. It flips out with each attempt to sew and currently this machine is useless. The bobbin case will not remain in place so that the bobbin can turn and the hook pick up the bobbin thread. There is no licensed/certified repair facility in my State and this will cost me a fortune to ship somewhere for repair. I estimate about 3-4 hours of actual sewing time. Such a disappoinment after waiting so many years for a new machine. Also a great disappointment to the gift giver

I bought this sewing machine to use for many different sewing projects from quilts to dog collars....I dabble in everything!! This machine is just beyond what I ever imagined! It is a true workhorse going through many layers and even my nylon webbing for my collars. The DVD was of great help to me being a beginner. The easy thread system, makes needle threading trouble free, Needle up/down, is a great feature, love the extension table that I bought separately! This machine delivers and is well worth the cost...have had for over 2 years now and not one problem, not ONE!! I would highly recommend to others, you will be getting a great deal in this machine and many years of trouble free sewing to come!! Thanks Singer for making this a delight to sew with!! I couldn't be more happy with my purchase.

I sadly had to 'retire' my 1951 Singer which I had used occasionally since 1980. I had started a project and now found myself suddenly looking for a machine; where to start?
This Singer impressed me immediately from the posted reviews, the variety of stitches, the consumer award and it's reasonable price. Plus, it's a Singer!
I am so happy I selected it. I am constantly amazed how easy it is to operate and now, after about a month of hard use, I can honestly say: "I LOVE this machine!"

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Control Pedal Issues...see Above*

4 out of 5 people found this helpful.

So far I love this machine. It is quiet, easy to use and trouble shoot. I've used Kenmore in the past and always had issues with adjusting the bobbin tension, but not with this one. My only issue and it's minor and I can and will deal with it is occasionally when I depress the foot pedal it doesn't move and I have to adjust the needle positioning before it will then work. If that is the only problem I encounter then I'm satisfied....presently making baby quilts for my first 2 grandbabies that are due within a week of each other.. :)

I received the Singer 7258 electronic machine in the mail yesterday. After hours of trying to get the bobbin thread to come up, I finally realized the hook mechanism timing was off. I didn't get to sew on it at all. This really annoys me because I bought a Singer Industrial machine last year, had it less than 6 months and the same thing happened.( I really enjoyed it while it worked.) I am sending the new machine back. The older version will cost around 70.00 to fix. It's too bad My mom had a Singer for 40+ years and it still works. I guess they're using cheaper parts or unskilled people to put their machines together now.

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Wish It Had A Custom Fitted Case Like In The Old Days

To be honest maybe my view on this product is slightly skewed because my last sewing machine was a Singer Genie from the 60's and though that machine was awesome it was old and loud and dying. The contrast with my new Stylist is very high and hence makes the new machine feel incredibly smooth, quiet and easy to me. But bottom line is I'm loving it!

Cons: Poor Quality, Few Features, Complicated

6 out of 8 people found this helpful.

I find this sewing machine rather difficult to thread both the upper and lower threads. While winding the bobbin, it is supposed to stop when the bobbin is full. my machine starts to wind very sloppy and once it is full the thread comes off the side of the bobbin and can bunch up while sewing. There aren't a whole lot of presser feet available for this model, and the extension table is next to impossible to find. The foot control is very light and moves around too much. It needs to be made heavier. The single stitch presser foot should be made narrower like the older ones. You get better control with the narrower feet while straight stitching. I should have purchased a Brother machine. you get more attachments and an extension table for about the same price.

To many issues

Overall Rating:

Pros: Simple To Start

Cons: To Many Repairs Caused By A Flimsy Bobbin Case And Spring.

19 out of 21 people found this helpful.

It worked great for about 3 months then I started having issues.

1st issue was the tension. It went bad and after making adjustments for an hour I gave up. I made the long trip to the service center and they discovered a bad bobbin case.

The new bobbin case worked for a couple of weeks then the bobbin case started to pop out of the track while sewing. This damages the needle. To put it back in track I need to unscrew the plate to put it back. After a few times it would not stay in track at all.

2nd long trip to the service center. I explained what was going on and the repair technician does not believe me. He insists that there is no way that the bobbin would pop out while sewing. He replaced the bobbin case and plate.

1 day later and my bobbin case is popping out again. The 1st time I sat down to sew it did this. So now I am very frustrated with this machine. I am not happy about making another long trip to fix this machine for the 3rd time in a month.

If I could I would return it, but the place I bougth from only allows 30 day returns.

Would not reccomend

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Expensive, Broken Bobbin Case, Timing Off After Short Use, Not Reliable

11 out of 12 people found this helpful.

I purchased the singer stylist and used it only a handful of times. The machine had a manufacture default after a few uses and had to be brought in for repairs. The closest warranty center was over 100 miles. I got better service at the warranty center then with Singer. Both times I called Singer I waited one about one hour and 15 min to speak with a rep. Luckly the repair center replaced the bobbin case and adjusted the timing under the warranty. I have yet to make the long trip to pick up my machine. I had suspicion singer may just run on their name at this point and not have reliable products, and I may have been right. I pray the machine will serve my needs from here forward considering the warranty is just 1 year for labor.

I started to want to sew again (it's been 15+ years since I've really done any sewing) I borrowed a friends and wanted that one (it was a brother). I went to the store where she got it, but the only brand they have now is Singer, and being a military wife and living on a tiny island, not many things get shipped to us, so ordering online was out of the question. Both places on island that have sewing machines only had Singers, so I decided I would settle. And of course, none of the cheaper ones were in stock, and my husband wanted me to have one RIGHT NOW! So he insisted that we get the Singer Stylist 7258. I didn't want to spend about $200 at the time, but I can honestly say now that I'm glad we did!! This thing is so easy to use! I've made many projects with it now, and am so happy with the machine. It does occasionally get bound up, but that is only when I'm trying to go over some really thick material. All the different stitches are fun to play with, and are really sturdy too! It would be nice if the light was brighter on it, but I can deal with it the way it is.

After having trouble figuring out my original sewing machine I exchanged it for this machine. I haven't sewn on a machine in a long time so I had to get a feel for it again. I really didn't know what to expect because this my first sewing machine from Singer. I say I am satisfied with it for the most part. There is a little minor thing like my fabric getting stuck in the feeder feet ,but other than that I don't really have any other complaints. It is a good machine for those refreshing their sewing skills like me. I found the instructional DVD to be very helpful for my trouble shooting issues(winding the bobbin & etc.)

Machine is noisy. Have an error message that (C4) took machine apart trying to find problem. Nothing. Won't wind a bobbin.Going to go get a different machine. I like Singer, I have a serger and an embroidery machine, but this machine has been awful. Easy to use when it worked.

Stylist 7258 AWESOME!

Cons: Can't Think Of One At This Time.

My new Singer Stylist 7258 arrived today. I must preface that I did extensive research before I decided on this particular machine. My sewing expertise would be considered an intermediate level with most of my sewing involving alterations (and, yes, buttonholes, too). Because of the amount of research and You Tube videos I watched, I felt extremely familiar with the machine. Winding a bobbin was the first thing I did...easy. Threading machine was easy as was the self-threader. One of the first things I wanted to try was a buttonhole. The buttonhole foot is extremely user-friendly. The hard part was deciding which buttonhole style I wanted to try first. Within a minute, my eyes rested upon a perfect buttonhole. I then tried several of the other decorative stitch styles. The machine is, to me, quiet. Everything seemed sturdy and was straightforward. This machine comes with many presser feet, a vertical spool holder, lint brush, seam ripper, and spool felt and caps. The number of presser feet this machine comes with was definitely a factor in my deciding on this machine. It does not have a case but does come with a dust cover. The machine is small enough to store in any closet and is a sturdy weight, not heavy and not too light. I look forward to starting my next project tomorrow.

Cons: Lower Axis Of Take-up Came Apart From Needlebar Linkage After Using It Only A Few Times

I love my machine for the most part. It is quiet, the auto needle threader is slick and the various stitches are fantastic. My only problem is that it is only 8 months old (only used about 5 times)and I had to pay for shipping to send it to Ohio to get warranty service on it. Invoice said the take up linkage popped apart. Sounds like something that might pop apart again, and again, and again. I hope not or I'll be VERY disappointed in an otherwise wonderful machine!

I like this machine for the types of sewing I am doing now which is doll clothes. I had a touch and sew from the 1960s and had problems with it but used it for 45 years, still have it. This machine's bobbin does not wind under the needle which was always a problem with jamming. It makes nice decorative stitches and has a good regular pace which helps in sewing small items.

I love this new sewing machine. This one has so many different stiches and is so easy to switch from one to another. It is very easy to thread the machine and bobbin as there are pictures to show you how as you proceed through the process. The machine is very light weight which is very different from my previous 8 stich kenmore. I think my new machine and I will have many enjoyable years of sewing and quilting together.

I had an old Singer machine that had only the VERY basic stitches available on it probably about 5 or 6, and I sort of lost interest in sewing. Until we recently had our first grand baby girl. Now I want to sew everything, for her and for me. At this time, the only complaint I have is that the machine did not come with an extension table. The description does not indicate an extension table nor is it mentioned in the related accessories. Inside the instruction manual, it indicates that it is an option. Upon calling Singer, they didn't even have the product and I was directed to the Service Center in my area, Paramount, CA. The gentleman was not very helpful and NEVER returned my call after stating he'd have to call back East and would call me back. I waited 1 week and called the service center back, and the lady that answered didn't know the product I was referring to. FORGET IT! I finally found the product I needed on Ebay and it probably was less expensive than the service center's cost would have been. Other than that, I'm enjoying trying out all the different stitches and sewing again.

Very good machine but needs more info in manual

I love the way my new Singer 7258 sews but I broke my first needle in years by setting the code 03 to sew zigzag on the edge of my seam with the overcasting foot on. After I changed the needle and put the general all- purpose foot back on the machine, it wouldn't start. In the display 6 lines (3 sets of dashes) appeared. There was nothing in the manual telling what that means. I tried everything...shutting off the machine, rethreading both top thread and bobbin, removing footplate and bobbin holder and making sure everything was clean, etc. I was really frustrated. Finally, by accident I hit the "needle position" button and that solved the problem. The 3.5 and 2.5 appeared in the display and I was good to go. But after I finished sewing and shut the machine off, the next time I went to sew, the same thing happened...just six dashes in the display and machine wouldn't work. I hit the needle position button and it was OK again. Nowhere in the manual does it tell you this could happen. I wish there was something in the computer that would tell you if you had the wrong foot with design code chosen. That was when my problem started. I hope something on the computer wasn't messed up when my needle broke making those dashes show up and having to hit the needle position button whenever I want to sew.

When I first married many years ago I wanted a Singer but they were so expensive, so my husband said.
We bought a Kenmore, it never worked right.
Many years later tired of making due with a miserable machine my son went out and bought another Kenmore, thinking that was the one I wanted I loved him for thinking of me but more of the same.
My hear was not in that one so a few years later I bought a Euro Pro, why? I have no clue. Hated that one also.
finally the light bulb went off and I reviewed this Stylist.
Finally, no more husband to stop me I ran to the Sears store to buy this.
I have not stopped sewing since, I am making everything for me for a change.
Blouses nighties, anything I can get my hands on.
I love this machine, it is smooth, quiet and easy to use.
I made a blouse and put on 5 buttons in minutes, buttons have always scared me but not any more.
I predict that I will want to buy one that does it all some day, bug not because this is not good this is a fantastic machine for my needs right now but later who knows?
Embroidery? Maybe.
What ever I decide to do it will be with a Singer, no more experimenting with the others.

I LOVE my Stylist (7258)! It has so many options and features that I was intimidated at first but after sewing with it the first time I realized just how easy and friendly this machine is. It does most of the work for me! I can sew nice straight lines, change stitches at the touch of a button and thread the needle quicker than any other machine I've used. I thought the machine might have a few too many options at first, but I've really enjoyed experimenting with the different feet and stitches. Considering feet are $20-$50+ apiece and you get TEN with this machine, it really pays for itself. Awesome machine, you can't go wrong with this one.

Though claims are that it will sew through thick fabric, I find that the needle jams in the bobbin casing when I sew anything that is more than two thicknesses of lightweight cotton. Just basic sewing, it is great. Not very good on satin stitching, or any "fancy" stitches. And it has several. I broke or bent 4 needles trying to applica on a small quilt square. :(

This is a very good machine.. I was able to sew some decorative stitches and also the basic zig zag stitches. I like the foot pedal, also the speed of sewing alternative sewing without the foot pedal.. The online tutorials also helped. I was able to purchase an extended table for this through a Florida Ebay seller.. Would recommend more help with auto threader.. Sewing thread, type of needles, fabric is necessary for success with sewing generally..

I use a Singer Merritt 6620 which is also a good Singer.. I was in high school in the 1970's time.. Also like the Touch N Sew 600-700's.

I have had Singer machines over the years, many years (58) now. I had the Quantums and the best Singer had in the market before giving up on sewing. Now I am back! I love my 7258. It stitches without adjustments to the tension for me. I just wish it had more to the presser feet in the manual to how to use. Overall I got this with less money than the better ones, and it does just as well. Wish it did have the drop feed function.

17 out of 18 people found this helpful.

I love my Singer stylist 7258. When shopping for my first machine I looked at some other Big Name brands. No other had the features that this machine had to offer at a comparable price. With 100 built in stitches I knew that this machine would be something I could grow into. Wish the stitch chart in the manual included the stitch name and recommended presser foot as a quick reference tool.
Love the needle threader, and speed regulator. Runs smoth and quiet and sews through multiple layers of fabric with ease. Wish I could manuallyadjust the presser foot pressure. My vintage machine has this feature and I like that control. Also wish it had a drop feed function, I have knocked the darning plate off while doing free motion work. Don't really mind pulling up the bobbin thread, but drop and sew would be great.
The weight is good, no vibration or moving around, but still light weight enough to easily carry.

I received this as a wedding present. It had been a few years since I've sewn on a machine and was intimidated to start again, but the machine is really easy to pick up. Even all of the built in stitches are really easy to navigate and it was simple to thread. The only thing I'm having an odd time adjusting to is that the presser foot lever lifts to the right side of the machine instead of straight back like all the other machines I'd worked with.My muscle memory keeps trying to flip it backwards instead of to the side. love this product!

My machine had some issues right out of the box. The thread would pucker up every 5th stitch or so, the thread kept breaking, I couldn't get the tension to work, and the bobbin thread looked like a mess.

So I called their customer service. I don't know who I spoke to, but she was great. Spent about a 1/2 hour on the phone with me, going through every possible step we could, and in the end she got it fixed! The thread looks perfect top and bottom. I could just kiss her!

Great machine, very versatile and fun! We also got it for a great price at Best Buy! Love it! Singer machines are always the best!

I absolutely LOVE my Singer 7258 Stylist! It is a dream to sew with. Even if you are a skilled seamstress, I highly recommend it to you! Here is my story: I have not done any sewing in 10 years, but decided a week ago to buy the Singer 3116 Simple Model, and even though it was basic and worked well, (so well that I made 4 skirts and a sundress the first 3 days!) my boyfriend suggested I needed a better machine, since all of a sudden, I was sewing so much. We researched, and I decided to stay with Singer, so he bought me the beautiful Singer 7258 Stylist, and holy mackerel it sews so quietly! Fast too... and you can choose your sewing speed! I love the drop in bobbin, the needle up or down button, and the ease of changing the many, many built in stitching patterns! This machine is a dream for sewing soft knits with no bunching of the fabric from the stitching! The machine is small and compact enough that I can take it to my newly signed-up-for quilting classes with ease. The color of the machine is a beautiful white, with gorgeous turquoise background for the fancy stitch choices display on the front of the machine. The nice turquoise color really attracted me.... The Stylist comes with a little dust cover as well. I love, love, love this machine. I researched and read many, many reviews before purchasing it! I am so happy to have this dreamy sewing machine!

Love my new machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Uncommon Bobbin

33 out of 35 people found this helpful.

After buying and returning a Singer 6180, I bought this machine and have been very happy with it. I like the ease of the top-loaded bobbin and the clear bobbin cover which lets me check very easily to see how much thread is left. After 25 years of being satisfied with a Singer that had a 4-step buttonhole feature, I'm really enjoying the automatic buttonhole capabilities of this model. My only criticism about the machine is that I feel a little less control with where the needle stops. It tends to go one stitch farther than I want, but I am learning to adjust for that and don't see it as an insurmountable problem. I'm beginning to like the needle-down stop feature, which is useful for turning corners. This new machine is much quieter than my old one. I have not been able to find the 15J bobbins in local stores, so I had to order some online. This was a brief inconvenience, but I ordered a large enough supply that I shouldn't need to worry about that again.

When I was comparing machines here were my options for this price range: Singer-auto tension, 100 stitches, and a lot of accessories, other machines had more stitches, manual tension, and basic accessories. It is a fantastic machine and is easy to use. In fact it is easier than my old Singer that I've had for 6 years! Perfect for every skill level of sewing.

I bought this as a huge upgrade to my 45 year old Singer Touch and Sew. I loved the features, and the one step button hole was a dream!! But there is where the love affair ended. The machine is difficult to load, the stitches are very sloppy no matter how much you fool with tension. I was working on a project and had sewn about 3 feet of fabric before this terrible noise and banging started. The thread had broken at some point and got all tangled up inside the machine. There was no way to untangle it. I was so surprised at the poor overall quality and all the trouble, I took it back. The whole thing was plastic and just seemed cheap. But to be fair, all machines nowadays are plastic. Certainly not the kind of Singer I had grown up with and sewn on all these years. I returned the machine and bought a basic, higher end machine. Sadly, not a Singer. I feel like I've lost a family member.
