So far, so good

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Super Straight Stitching Machine!

Cons: Concerned About Plastic Parts-specifically Bobbin Cover

5 out of 5 people found this helpful.

I have just started using this electronic machine after *34* years of sewing on my trusty Kenmore. Sears is no longer making the Kenmore machines and couldn't repair my old one, but courteously offered me a hefty discount on another machine, so long as it was carried in inventory by Sears. The selection was severely limited, but I chose the Superb, as my only other real choices were a Singer Heavy Duty or a Brother machine.

I am impressed right out of the box, with everything other than the (to me) excessive use of Plastic. In particular, I don't like the clear plastic bobbin cover; it doesn't fit well and it is tricky to get it to hold in place. I envision the little clip breaking off (it's like the little battery doors on other electronics or flashlights, etc., and I've broken plenty of those!)

For the life of me, I can't get the automatic needle threader to work despite reading and re-reading the instructions and even viewing videos of the process. Not a deal breaker for me though, as I can certainly still thread a needle without help.

I haven't tried all the fancy stitches yet, and don't have a lot of use for most of them, but I will RAVE about the straight stitching this machine produces! I doubt my old machine was ever this good! I also love the needle up/down function which is great for pivoting your work without having to check the needle position. The start-stop button was a breeze to become familiar with - I have never even plugged in the foot control. That too is awesome.

I have lots of projects in mind for my machine, and will review it again after longer use. I hope my concerns about the plastic and needle threader will be resolved and I can give the machine a 5* rating!

New Machine

I bought my 2010 Superb in July 2013 . I have always bought a Brother Sewing Machine but decided to try a Singer. Well I have had to send it in twice for repair. I have spent almost $100.00 on postage alone as I had to mail the machine to the repair shop. I am disappointed in my new Singer Superb Sewing Machine. I sent a letter to Singer in March 2014 and have not today had any response from the company! Not sure I would buy another one.

Disappointed with Singer

Overall Rating:

Pros: Quiet

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I've had this machine for 4 months and sew every week on various projects. I wanted an upgrade from the Singer 6235 I have used for many years. Although the machine is much quieter, I haven't found any other so-called features that make it an improvement. The bobbin winder is terribly inefficient compared to the 6235. The needle threader has never worked. Threading the machine and the bobbin sometimes take several careful attempts and leave me with birdsnests to remove or skipped stitches. Yesterday, I was switching to a new needle after undergoing this problem, and troubleshooting, and the thumbscrew holding the thread guide and needle just fell apart. Thankfully I kept my older machine and was able to complete my project, but I have been in a customer support que for 20 minutes and I am now #10 in line to try and get the part. The decorative stitches I've tried have not been impressive so far, and the autolock feature doesn't work in the zigzag mode. I could go on.

Love this machine

Overall Rating:

2 out of 2 people found this helpful.

I purchased this machine two weeks ago (February, 2014), and love it. It's very user friendly, with very few issues. It's a great value with all of the features included. I've practiced on almost everything, including the decorative stitches, etc and works great. My only downfall is that threading the needle is a little tricky. I've watched the video numerous times in order to see exactly how the needle is being threaded, and personally think it would be easier to thread the needle by hand than spending time using the threader. Maybe it just takes time to get used to it. The other thing is that this machine has very poor lighting with only one very small LED light. It seems like it could be such an easy fix for singer. It was the first thing I noticed while sewing, and in fact I went to Hancock which is where I purchased the machine from, and the sales person said there should be three LED lights on this machine, but there definitely is only one. So, this is just for a heads up. You might want to check all of the machines before purchasing as lighting is a very important feature for me. I did buy a clamp on light, but it's always in the way. Otherwise, I love everything else about this machine.

Great "Travelling" machine!

I absolutely LOVE this machine! I splurged after my 8280 went on the fritz. I figured I might as well get a new machine, one I could finally afford, with all the extras I was looking for. I LOVE the fact that you don't need the foot control to sew! The sliding Speed Bar is great! It's money well spent. This is also a great "Step-Up" machine for someone who is no longer a Beginner and ready for more complicated sewing.

Don't waste your money

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

I have this machine for a couple of years and every time I pull it out to sew something else breaks. I bought this machine because I have carpel tunnel but I am finding it easier and faster just to sew by hand because this sewing machine breaks too easy!!!

some nice features and reasonably easy to use. the automatic needle threader only works for a few threadings and then needs to be straightened out. like the speed control. the letters are not legible when using that feature

CAN'T SAY ENOUGH

I grew up with Singer sewing machines but when I got older I purchased a non-singer sewing machine because I thought it was too expensive. I was wrong. After wasting 11 years on a second rate machine that was not a Singer, I purchased this one. Oh my! If I only knew what I was missing. This is by far the best machine that I have used in 11 years and the price was great for the quality of machine that I have purchased. I should have done this A LONG TIME AGO! If your are debating which sewing machine to purchase. Please don't waste away time like I did. If you are going to do something...do it right the first time. Enjoy!

Superb Review

I'm not very happy with my Superb. I have had issues with the machine seizing up, then breaking my needle. I can sew for some time, then it seizes up and breaks the needle. I don't even have my foot on the peddle when it happens. I went to where I bought the machine and they said I had to contact Singer directly. They thought it might be a factory defect.

Okay as a fallback

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Lightweight, Easy To Carry And Move, Generous Array Of Stitches That Are Easy To Use

Cons: No Luck With Buttonholes

6 out of 8 people found this helpful.

My wonderful Athena 2000 had been having problems, so I decided to buy the 2010 Superb to get through a few projects until I could afford to get the Athena repaired.
The Superb is probably worth the money. It has a good selection of stitches that my older model doesn't have. However, I've been unable to get it to make complete buttonholes which is very disappointing. It is also a little difficult to get the bobbin into the machine and work its thread properly so that it sews correctly, although I think I've mastered that.
It comes with a very well-done DVD which helps a lot since the printed instructions aren't clear enough in some areas.

Didn't need a fancy machine, but this one is pretty easy

Overall Rating:

8 out of 9 people found this helpful.

I just wanted a basic machine to use once in a while to fix things. This 2010 happened to be a display model marked way down, so I bought it, not knowing if it would be too complex for my basic needs.

I'm glad I bought it. It runs smoothly, is easy to thread and set up following the instructions. The needle threading assistance tool took a couple minutes to figure out, but makes threading the needle very easy. The general instructional CD was pretty interesting and helpful, since I don't know how to sew much.
I still don't need all the electronic features that come with the 2010, but I have played with them. The built in decorative stitches and lettering are pretty basic, but someone might find them useful.
I wouldn't have paid full price for this machine because I don't need all the features, but since it was not much more than a cheap basic machine, I'm very glad I got this one.

I love this machine, however it did not arrive with the instructional DVD as stated, and I cannot find in the great instructional manual how to make the letters and numbers larger than a 1/4 inch?? Can anyone help with this??? Thanks

A bit disappointing

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

14 out of 18 people found this helpful.

I really really wanted to love this machine, it has all the fancy features you could possibly need, but i was convinced with the addition of an "eyelet" function, professional looking embroidered eyelets with a myriad of uses were just a touch away, a feature found on machines at double this price.. Sadly, i was disappointed, the feed mechanism on this machine is not accurate enough to perform this task well enough, especially on heavier fabrics, it just embroidered a spiral!! Buttonholes were magnificent, but slow, basic sewing felt weak and un-responsive! Come on Singer, give us an accurate computerized machine with a proper servo-motor, not a kids toy motor!

Great sewing machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality

Just got the machine but love it already!
Read the manual from A to Z and started to sew. It was that easy. I have never used an electronic sewing machine before, and was a bit intimidated by all the buttons and features. But after reading the manual and watching the DVD, I am now sewing like a pro. It has so many wonderful features! I can't wait to put all those decorative stitches on my sewing projects...
My suggestions to everyone; read the manual and watch the DVD as many times as necessary.

So Happy With The Superb

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Would Be Nice To Include A 1/4 Inch Foot.

16 out of 17 people found this helpful.

I had not used a sewing machine in many years. The Superb is superb. It is easy to use and I am impressed with the many accessories that are included with the machine. Since I am doing machine quilting, I had to purchase a 1/4 inch foot. Sewing is very easy and the machine takes care of most of the settings automatically. It is lightweight, which is nice since I take it with me to my quilting circle. I am completely satisfied with this machine.

I love this machine. Ordered it from HSN in September & missing clear zipper foot from bonus package, got it on 11/05/12. Thanks. Bobbin is quite noisy, will get the silicone disks & see if that helps. Still working on memory programming, not got it yet. Still love it.

2010 Superb

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality

Cons: A Little Complicated For Non Computerized Sewer, But Once I Got Started It Was Ok.

24 out of 26 people found this helpful.

My old Singer broke down and I had to find a replacement for it. I liked the idea of an embroidery machine, but I didn't have the "big bucks" to shell out for one. So, I began looking at machines that did basic sewing and also had a few embroidery type stitches. I compared the Brother and the Singer. The Singer was the best buy for the money. At first I was a little bit afraid to learn how to use the computerized machine, but now that I have started ... well, I love it! I trust the Singer product, and know this machine will serve me well.

Great Machine

Decorative stitches was the key selling point along with the fact it was on sale. Love it. Only drawback is not fitting in old sewing machine table I got from my in-laws. Machine bounces when stitching at high speed. Love this little machine.

Very Frustrating Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Complicated

35 out of 46 people found this helpful.

The bobbin thread is driving me crazy.. Everytime I start to stitch, the bobbin knots up, and it is loaded correctly. I've spent so much time seam ripping not to mention the wasted thread. Also, I cannot find bobbins that work in the machine. It says that they are Class 15, but I've bought them, and when trying to wind the thread on the bobbin, the bobbin holder just spins, like the hole in the bobbin is too big. The only ones that seem to work are the 5 that came with the machine. I'm returning the machine ASAP.. I've never had this much trouble with a brand new machine.

Top of the line machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Singer

Cons: Better Instructions On Storing In Memory.

11 out of 13 people found this helpful.

I love my new sewing machine. I am still having a few problems figuring out how to store the stitches in memory mode, and the alphabetic letters in script really don't look right, but I am not sure I am doing it right. I have sewn a quilted throw and very impressed with my machine so far.

2010 Singer

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Fun To Use

Cons: Poor Quality, Noisy, Poorly Made With Plastic

19 out of 23 people found this helpful.

My husband saw this machine and encouraged me to get it. After receiving it early in 2010, I discovered that it was very poorly made of plastic. It is very noisy as if it needs to be oiled. It is still very noisy and I wonder if this one was forgotten when they oilled them. The cover plate (located in front of the feed dogs) was cracked where it inserts into the machine as if it was bent in handling. I have used it carefully as to not break it off. This machine would be a big joy to use if it wasn't so noisy. Constant gears grinding, etc. Maybe I am just concerned that it might break because of the noise.
Regardless of my cons with this machine, I would not give it up and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to sew or learn to sew.

Singer 2010 is Fantastic!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I bought the 2010 two years ago and LOVE it so much I bought 2 more for gifts!

Tips not in manual: As with all top loading drop in bobbin sewing machines make sure the bobbin thread lays across the left part of bobbin after you pull it up with the needle. And it should stay across the bobbin while sewing. If the thread is not laying across top of bobbin, then redo bobbin or your stitches will appear wonky--as if you have tension problems when actually you don't. Use stabilizer under fabric for decorative stitches--and you get so many pretty stitches to choose from too! Use only 'class 15' bobbins-not 15J. Stitches are numbered on pull out cards under machine--I LOVE that you don't have to scroll to find the stitch you want! Manual is easy to follow/understand. This machine is pre-lubricated at the factory so you won't find how to oil it in the manual--you don't have to. All it's great features make this an AWESOME SEWING MACHINE and the price is lower now than it was 2 years ago!

I received this machine as a gift. Actually, my husband told me to pick any sewing machine I wanted, regardless of price. This is the machine I selected and I'm so glad I did!

This machine sews like a dream. I love all the features and the parts that come with it. I can sew anything without having to purchase additional parts. I've tried some of the embroidery stitches and they're fantastic!

It's a little pricey for the average sewer, but worth every penny. It makes all my projects look so much better and more professional.

Had the machine for less than a month but so far I love it. Bought it to replace a 25 yr old Quantum that had seen better days. I chose the Superb as it has many of the same features and more stitches than my old machine, all for less money. Plus, it's weighs less than the old Quantum so I can take it anywhere. The instuction booklet is very easy to understand, which is always a plus. I'm very happy with my Superb.

Love the 2010 sewing machine!!!

This machine ROCKS! It comes with everything you could need--bought a pink/purple tackle box to hold it all and labeled each compartment with a Sharpie pen to organize all the parts/presser feet. Instruction books have illustrations & are easy to understand--they're the best booklets I've ever recieved with a technical product--and all in English--no wading through different languages!!! Did have what I 'thought' was a tension problem-it wasn't-just didn't have the needle tightened tight enough. Be sure to use 'class 15' (not 15J) bobbins and follow the directions for loading. Jammed bobbin thread means you're using the wrong bobbin, or didn't load correctly. LOVE all the features-being able to sew by pushing buttons to stop, start, needle up or down, speed up or down, etc. I absolutely LOVE this machine and learned it easily after using only my Kenmore for 35 years! I'm an almost 60 year old sewer--if I can figure out how to use this machine to it's full advantage then everyone should be able too. I LOVE IT!
