Great Product for the Price

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

My husband gave me this machine as a gift. I wanted something basic to use for general sewing as well as quilting. I've used it for over a month now, and have had no problems. I was able to purchase a Janome 1/4 foot and put it right on without problem. I've now ordered the singer Feeder Foot also for quilting, so I'm able to do more with the machine. I'd recommend this to anyone.

Poor Performance

Cons: Poor Quality

I have had nothing but trouble from this machine since the beginning. I thought that it was me, but a seamstress used the machine and it locked up on her as well. It only locks up on my now after 30 mins of use, but the threads are loose even after adjusting the tension both up and down. I am finding another machine.

loving my new sewing machine

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Well, I'm a Singer user since before I was born!
My grandma, who taught me how to sew, bought her first Singer after she got married in the '50's, and she is using the same machine since then.
On the other side of the family, my grandma also had a Singer sewing machine, a black machine in a 4 drawers cabinet. Now it's a piece of decoration in my office. But with a little care it's still working.
That's why I chose this machine.
I'm not a great seamstress, but I know enough. So I thought the "very basic" machine would be too basic for me. I was right.
The Esteem II has all the features I needed!
Now I'm practicing with my vintage patterns, and it's going very well so far.
The machine is easy to adjust and to understand if something is not right.
I loved the trick to put the thread in the needle (automatic threader) !!! Loved it! My grandma will love it too.
The thread cutter is very nice too.
The velocity control is great, and the machine is not heavy. Since I don't have a specific room for arts an crafts, I need to transport the machine constantly.
I did not liked the lights, they are weak for my taste, and it causes a glare in the needle, but it's not something that I cannot live with.
The bobbin is kind of hidden, you have to remove the extension table to reach it. But it's not that hard.

Bottom line is: I'm happy with my new sewing machine and I will recommend it to my family and friends.

Nothing But Trouble

Overall Rating: 1 star

Cons: Poor Quality, Few Features, Complicated, Stuck In Reverse

6 out of 7 people found this helpful.

I have only had this machine for a little over a week and it is riddled with problems! The bobbin is extremely difficult to deal with and last night my sewing machine began sewing in reverse!!! I've tried several suggestions and the machine is still stuck in reverse. I find this machine extremely frustrating and of very poor quality. I definately plan to shop around for a better machine.

Newbies or Haven't Sewn In A Whilers

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Few Features

I grew up around sew machines but by time high school was finished and then college I probably have only used a sew machine a handful of times. Any sewing I had to do I did by hand. Now way out of college and in my own home I find I want a sew machine more often. I received the Esteem II as a gift and it has been perfect for getting back on the wagon! Really intuitive and easy once you remember all the tricks it is smooth sailing! Enjoy.

still can't make a good buttonhole

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated

Don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Have the user guide open in front of me every time I try.
Good thing I don't need many buttonholes made.
Oh, and I wish they'd bring back the drop-in bobbins. The bobbin on this machine is a terror.

I recieved this sewing machine from my fiance for Christmas. I had an older Singer that was over 15 years old the reverse didnt work and some other parts. When I started to use this machine I was shocked how quiet it is and how fast it was. I havent watched the DVD yet but the book is sooo easy to follow. Now Im looking for a case for it. If your an amature sewer I would strongly recomend this machine...

Wonderful

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

The sewing machine is great for a beginner. The video was a huge help in getting the sewing machine set up and it came with a few extra pieces. I wish there was better explanations of the various stitches and tips on adjusting the tension in the manual, but that's it! I am very happy with this product, would recommend it to everyone looking for a little bit more than a basic sewing machine.

Bobbin is a problem, hard to adjust. Features appear to be good did not get a chance to use any. Frustrated by the bobbin problem. If I find the receipt I will return this machine. Finally decided to use a product named Stitch Witchery to make my curtains. I have always been a Singer Fan. I am sorry that this machine did not work out. I guest you get what you pay for!!!!!

Wonderful sewing machine

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I had been using my mother's old sewing machine for over 20 years until it wore out and broke. I received this from my husband for Christmas after we saw it advertised on sale at Target. It was a great buy for the $. It runs so smooth and fast with a quiet hum. I just love it because it has no fancy, electronic programming but does have the basic needs for sewing.

Love it

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I have had a Singer machine since my mother bought me a 1969 used Singer in 1984. I still have that machine and use it frequently especially on heavy duty jobs. My husband recently purchased the Esteem II for me and I have to say that I do love this machine too. For one, it is much easier to lift for carrying and I find it quite easy to use since it is quite similar to the old machine. The bobbin load is different but not something I couldn't handle.
It's a brand I trust and would recommend this to anyone who likes to sew as I find it very user friendly.
Thank you Singer!

Great Basic Machine

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

This is a great basic machine. I have a sewing/embroidery machine, but needed an additional machine when the other was out of commission. I wanted a mechanical machine that I could use for myself, and for instruction. This machine really fits the bill.

While it's basic enough to teach beginners about machine operation, the extra features such as being able to move the needle position, and one step button holes, make it powerful enough for my own sewing.

Taking some getting used to

Overall Rating: 3 stars

Pros: Good Value

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I have been using a Brother that I purchased about 30 years ago for $99 and purchased this machine to replace it. This one is taking some getting used to. Reverse button not where I am used to and things like that. So far so good but haven't been able to figure out the auto needle threader. Purchased this over the Brother because this one still had some metal parts and the Brother was ALL plastic, the bobbin housing and everything.

Esteem 2

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Complicated At First

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

I bought this item with little knowledge, but the way it is and the accessories just drove me to learn. At first it was hard, but u also have to persist.

It brings so much foot pedals, for different stitches, its just insane. Different stitch patterns, solutions to clean it and a Cd, The esteem 2 is a great investment. I really recommend this.

Seems ok with experience

Overall Rating: 4 stars

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated

2 out of 2 people found this helpful.

It has been years since I've used a sewing machine, but I was very excited to get back to it with this one. It seems a lot more complicated than it needs to be. It took both my husband and I to finally get it threaded correctly and the bobbin has been a pain from the start. I'm hoping once we really get it going, it will go better. I have confidence in the Singer name, so I'm optimistic. If you need something with a lot of ease, I would go for a nicer model.

I have been sewing by hand for years (30+) and there has been joy and tears. Men used to be the major tailor. Fortunately, it is now more diverse. This machine is a dream. It is so easy to you. Why, I may even sew myself a suit. (smile). Go for this model, you will fall in love.

Do it yourself all star

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Very complete for basic needs and more than I will probably ever need. Works just great and easy to use, I only sewed a couple times in a lifetime and it was on that machine without breaking it or scraping anything. If you are looking for a machine to learn and keep a while, this one will do.

Not the machine of my dreams

Overall Rating: 1 star

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

2 out of 2 people found this helpful.

My old machine lasted 42 years. This machine lasted 9 days before it went back to the store. All plastic gears/parts do not make for anything reliable. I also couldn't figure out how to thread the needle with the automatic threader. I spent $100 and had my old one serviced. The 42 year old Dial Easy is soooooo much better than this one. Sorry Singer!

good machine. So far only used once, but seems to work great for what I need. I like the needle self-threader. That helps the eyes so much. You don't have to strain to see to thread the needle. So far very happy with this machine.

This model should have been recalled a long time ago!

Overall Rating: 1 star

Cons: Poor Quality, It Breaks Needles Every Few Minutes, The Bobbin James And Won't Move

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

With so many complaints on the internet about this model jamming the bobbin and breaking needles I can't believe that Singer hasn't recalled and replaced them. I and thousands others have followed every instruction in the book over and over to no avail. I have been a faithful Singer customer since 1970 but this model is a complete failure! I want my money back!

Disappointed

Overall Rating: 1 star

Cons: Poor Quality, Lack Of Customer Service

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

The first 2 months this machine was awesome! Then the thread started slipping out of the bobbin case. It would progressively get worse. Now the bobbin is actually popping out with so much force that it almost opens the plastic protective door. I have tried calling Singer, but they are only open from 8am to 4pm. I am a teacher and I am at work during those hours. I tried calling on my conference twice. The first time I had 14 callers ahead of me and 17 the second time. I emailed and have yet to hear back from Singer. I misplaced my receipt and can not have warranty work done on the machine. I registered the machine and now my account says I have nothing registered. Do not waste your time and/or money.

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Complicated

I was given this as a gift last Christmas and have been sewing on it daily for the past year! I absolutely love this machine. Getting it set up out of the box was a pain, but once it was ready to go, it sews like a champ. I only wish the buttonhole maker was better.

Esteem II 2273

Overall Rating: 5 star

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Fun, Fun, Fun

Cons: Manual Could Be A Little More Indepth Especially For Newbies On Machine Sewing.

I first learned to sew on a machine in the 6th grade (34 yrs. ago) and have not sewn since. I have always wanted my own machine and finally last Christmas, 2011, I got this baby. I absolutely love it, I have had so much fun and made 90% of my Christmas, Baby Shower and Birthday gifts for people this past year with this wonderful machine. I can already tell I'm going to out grow it soon because I want to quilt big things and the arm on this one is a little to short for that. My family and friends are all very happy that I have learned to sew again as they have all benefited from my many projects. Now even my two teenage sons want to learn to sew :)

Not pleased

Overall Rating: 2 stars

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality, Needed Repair

0 out of 1 people found this helpful.

Due to life circumstances, I didn't get a chance to use it until after it was out of warranty. There was a problem right from the beginning. I could not get it to work, so I had a professional look at it. The machine had to be timed. It was very frustrating, due to the fact I never even got a chance to sew with it and I had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. After getting it timed it has been working fine. It is easy to use.

Everything about this machine is awesome except for the bobbin. I can't seem to get fully through a project without the bobbin giving me all kinds of trouble. Otherwise, I love this machine.
