This works great if sewing straight lines. Trouble with bobbin winding, does not wind properly and causes problems when using. Tried using a zigzag stitch (03) and kept jumping into a different stitch, then another. Can't use for a quilt, which why this machine was purchased. Will have to see if company will exchange.

First time too own such an awesome machine ,having to fight and pull the fabric through the machine was not worth making a quilt but with this machine it was such a blessing. I am ready tomake quilts so enjoyable. The walking foot just for this made it much easier to work with. I have made 6 twin quilts. NOW, the wheel has popped off a few times , I had put it back together so far its good .and the foot pedal , sometimes iit stops and ihave to pump the foot to get it moving again

Cons: Tension Went Haywire Had To Send It Back

On the day of receiving this machine I was excited, until I started to sew and nothing was working right, the tension would not work, auto tension would not work, good sewing was going on the bottom, so turned off machine and tried it again later that day, finally got the tension set, sewed for 3 days then decided to change the stitch length which was a big mistake, could not get the tension to work so I sent the machine back, now waiting for another one, same machine to see it this happens again and if it does I will be returning it and not buying another one.

Disappointed

Basic sewing was great. However, I could not make the automatic buttonhole maker work. Instructions were not included in the video. The written instructions did not help. Since lessons were offered, I thought I would wait to use the feature after lessons. The manual feature worked fine. Next project was quilting. The machine would not go into the correct adjustments nor would it go back to basic sewing. I took it back to the store & the salesperson could not figure it out. My brand new sewing machine is being repaired & it was in use less than a month.

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Timing Is Thrown Off Easily, Light Needs To Be Brighter

I enjoy using this machine for making baby blankets, and house decorating projects. The only problem I have with this machine is lightweight material can get jammed into the machine and throws the timing belt off.

Just bought this....made two baby quilt blankets so far.
My other machine had the presser foot lever on left side so a little getting use to, over all I look forward to sewing more than ever. The sewing bulb was a little dim but I can manage. Glad I made the choice to buy this product!!!!!

Unhappy consumer

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

I purchased this machine August of 2013. I have had it for 8 months. I use it infrequently and now it seems to have a short in it or a bad cord. There is no local Singer Service Warranty center. The company says I need to send back in the original container, which I do not have. The light is very poor.

Alittle Disappointed

Overall Rating:

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Few Features

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

The CD they give you tells you nothing if you are an experienced sewer you already know whats on the CD. It tells you nothing about the machine and all the attachments they give you. The freearm is suppose to be good for cuffs but it is built too large to do that. The lighting is not the best. Also it is very hard to see the last stitch with the foot they give you for regular sewing. I do like that it is quite and sews through thicknesses very well. I like it but I am still using my old machine for certain things.

I am a 56 yr old male, Never sewed anything, I got a calling from the Lord to start quilting. While looking at and comparing machines we decided on this one. I completed two different projects and am working on a third. I really enjoy this machine, it is so easy to use, has really great features and came with extra feet that were simple to install and easy to use. I would buy another one if anything ever happened to this one.

So far so good. Easy to use, reliable stitching, great for piecing and straight line quilting. I have done several small projects. But I do suspect that the pressure foot lever in the harp of the machine will totally be in the way when I tackle a larger quilting project. We'll see................

Pros: Easy To Use

Cons: Expensive, Tension Off Often

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

This is a good machine. I have not had problems with it that stop my sewing progress. There are a couple of things that are obnoxious though. The thread guide that goes up and down in the left of the machine is constantly bumping the top of the machine. That door doesn't open, it just gets out of line when I touch it and then it bumps. There is also the thread tension. I am regularly pulling out stitches because it will be going along fine and then just start looping erratically on the back of my quilts. I think it was a good starter machine for me. I am getting much better at the free motion quilting that I bought it for now and it is limited in a few ways. I would like an auto thread cutter, the knee lift for the foot, a steadier stitch length while doing free motion.

I agree with others with negative reviews, and will explain why. I bought the Confidence Quilter to start quilting. You would think with "quilter" in the name they would put effort into making it a WORTHWHILE machine. Meanwhile
I have to wonder for all of the people who have reviewed this item, who amongst them who gave 5 stars for "quilting" are not just piecing together a top to a quilt and sending that elsewhere for final quilting... or are only using straight stitch-in-the-ditch with the walking foot. If that's the case, then props. This machine is spot on awesome. However.

My own problems with the machine are as follows.

It is impossible for me to lower the feed dogs, first of all. The inside of the machine, that which you cannot see, is largely made of plastic. This is why the machine is so light. When I lower the feed dogs, the only part that IS metal (and connected to the feed dogs themselves) slips off of the plastic "foot" that controls whether they are up or down. I do not say this because I have X-Ray vision--I say this because I had to have the machine repaired, and the technician told me this. He said "never lower the feed dogs. Ever. EVER." And explained why.

I was good for months, did nothing but straight stitching. Then I wanted to try quilting again. So I lowered the feed dogs and whaddaya know, I can't raise them again. I thought to myself "DARN IT... but okay, that's my fault. I will just make this forever and for always my 'quilting' machine, and never need to raise the feed dogs again." Nevermind the fact that I would have to buy a new machine for this plan.

But come to the second part of my anger with this machine--without the added assistance of the feed dogs, the tension is completely and utterly messed up. Whether I'm at 3+ or 3- or even on AUTO, my top thread is too loose and my bobbin won't turn at all, resulting in the bobbin thread getting lost and the stitches not taking.

I don't plan on getting rid of this machine. It works fine if you work with it on its terms--only straight stitching, keep the feed dogs UP, and neeeeeeeever do any actual free-motion quilting. So I'm going to get it fixed--but I'll be buying another machine from another company, and I'm sad to say I am so very disappointed in Singer. I thought this was a company that was trustworthy. This machine proves otherwise.

The motor burns up when you quilt. I had this machine for 3 months and quilted 3 quilts. The motor overheated and froze on me. I had it replaced and had to PAY for the labor. That motor burned up too. Don't waste your money on this machine.

Quilting Machine Opinion

Overall Rating:

4 out of 5 people found this helpful.

This machine runs quietly and smoothly. It is great that it comes with an extension table, and needed quilting feet. However, I really feel this machine needs to come with instructions concerning the quilting attachments. The instruction manual pretty much covers the general sewing feet, but not the quilting feet. This is supposed to be quilters machine so it needs to cover quilting use.

My son purchased a new sewing machine for me for Christmas. I am retired and have been quilting and making hand bags on a 35-year old singer. LOVE my new machine. All the built-in stitches are wonderful. I especially like the automatic threader (made for people with "old eyes"). The extra pressure foots are a plus too. The manual is also very user friendly.

Hi,
I love my 7469Q. I was using it with in minutes of unpacking it. It is lovely and easy to use and the instructions are excellent. The but comes with the Added value pack. There were 4 extra feet in a special plastic bag (money spent on bag), no list of names for the parts. No instructions how to install or what they are for. There is a DVD, a book of instructions and a loose sheet to explain how to thread the machine and the bobbin, but I had to go to a Joanne Fabrics sale web site to find out what those extra feet are. And I still don't know how to install the walking foot and embroidery foot, I have to guess. For a package worth $100., Singer cheaped out in the how too department. Joan M.

My husband bought me the 7468Q Confidence Quilter for Christmas this past year and I love it!! I've been sewing ever since my 7th Grade Home Economics class when I made my first apron and I've had several sewing machines since then. And 7th Grade Home Economics was a long time ago!! My Mom did a lot of home sewing and I learned much in the way of technique and skill from her.
With the 98 built-in stitches, I can begin the many quilting projects that I've copied patterns for and can start putting my fabric "stash" to good use! I can't thank you enough for the automatic needle threader; my bifocals just weren't getting my other sewing machine threaded any more!! Thank you for this great product! My husband only hopes that I'll keep on doing my housekeeping and not spend all day on my craft projects!!

My Mother purchased machine Sept 2010--hadn't really used it when I borrowed it. I used it alot in the 4 weeks I had it. Then my young grandson attempted to plug in the speed control pedal & broke the Pin Jack Harness off. I think it was defective but the store won't do anything about it & You can't reach singer for anything. Even sent an email with no response. VERY disappointed that a 15 month old can break an internal part. PLASTIC---what quality---even radio shack has the part as metal.

Overall Rating:

Thinking I would get a good quality machine at a good price I should of just bought a brother and expected a less quality machine and been happier. Stitching was off. After several hours of trying the buttonholer still didnt come up with one I was really happy with. The information book that came with it was incomplete-If you advertise it as a quilter why not put info in book about the different feet you include. I needed to call the company to get the info. After sewing with a machine I didnt need a foot peddle with what a mistake to purchace a machine that I could need to use a foot peddle. I also like the auto thread cut which this machine doesnt have. Even cheaper walmart machine comes with some of these features. I know you get what you pay for and this was really a waste of my money. I have up to 7 sewing machines some I like and some I dont like. I have a brother sewing/embroidery machine that my 8 yr old granddaughter uses when she is over here and at this point I would rather use it than the Singer. I had the machine a month before I took it out of the box, now I wish I had just taken it back before I tried it out. If anyone would ask me I would tell them not to buy this machine and go to a dealer who will work with you on using the machine. Not JoAnn Fabric who sell the machine but know nothing about it.

I purchased my new Quilting machine in August of 2012 on sale from Joann.com to use for quilting mostly, it has been (4) months now since my purchase, Singer has made another great product, I use my machine every weekend for quilting projects and it works beautifully, the ladies in one of my quilting classes could not believe how quiet and well it sews compared to their Janome's. Read the owners manual before I started using my machine and it tells you everything you need to know. I am now looking to purchase a Singer Embroidery machine for Christmas. I have rated this machine as 5 stars and it was worth every penny. I paid 299.99 for my machine on sale. Great product Singer.

I just purchased the Confidence Quilter because I thought it would be great to quilt my projects rather than paying someone to do it for me. Even though "Quilter" is in the name, no where in the manual or on the DVD does it actually tell you how to use the quilting feet or do any quilting. Amazing. I will try to figure it out on my own and if that doesn't work, the machine will be going back. I thought the name Singer was one I could trust but now I'm not so sure

I really enjoy sewing with my Confidence Quilter. It is easy to learn, easy to service myself, easy to thread, and very versatile. I completed my first quilt on it within 2 months of receiving it as a gift. Only negatives are not built like the old machines and the stitch settings are imprecise making it difficult to duplicate the decoratve stitches.

I am very disappointed with this machine. I bought it so that I could learn to machine quilt - especially free-motion quilting. Don't expect to find instructions for that in the manual or on the DVD that comes with it! I had to watch a bunch of videos on YouTube just to get started. Very frustrating. Now that I finally was able to quilt with it - it just stopped working today. I called 1-800-singer, waited on hold for 45 minutes, and the person on the other end was not able to help me. So now I am supposed to send it to a repair center in another state - at my own expense. This machine weighs 21 lbs - it's going to cost a small fortune to ship it, and who knows how long it will take to get back. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I wish I had spent a few hundred more dollars and gotten a good machine. This just wasn't worth the money, and the aggrevation. Sorry, I always liked Singer in the past.

Grandma's Sewing Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

Cons: Expensive

7 out of 8 people found this helpful.

My Grandma bought this sewing machine just months before she died. She always gave to everyone and while she was living with me I wanted her to have a nice sewing machine. She was an avid quilter even at the age of 87. Getting down on the floor and piecing together her crazy quilts. She was like a little girl at Christmas time when we bought this one. She was so impressed by how easy it was to use and loved it very much. Now I have it and I am using it. I am so thankful that we were able to get her one and she could enjoy sewing again with a machine that was not constantly giving her problems. She really loved the extender to sew on for the quilts. What fond memories I have in a short time with this machine. I will pass it down to my girls who were always by her side and she taught them to sew just like she taught me. Now they will have this machine when they are older and can say I saw my Great Grandma sew quilts on this machine.

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Today's Singer Quality

Cons: Expensive, Pressure Foot Arm Is In The Way For Full Size Machine Quilting.

I can't stand where they have placed the pressure foot release. On the throat side of the machine, REALLY? While machine quilting the fabric get snagged on the arm if you have a big role. It's great for small things but anything over a full size is a nightmare. Other than that one issue I love my machine.

From my mother's 1940's machine, to my first graduation present in the 70's, I have always counted on my Singer. Three years ago I had to replace my machine and did not choose wisely. I have just replaced it with the Singer Confidence Quilter and I could not be more pleased! It is very easy to use and has ample table room - the extension table is a convenient feature when sewing large projects. The guides are well placed - I like the 1/4" mark. The bobbin's see through plate is handy and it is very simple to thread. I like the needle threader, too - it makes threading the needle a snap. There are so many sewing patterns to chose from! I don't know how I sewed without the needle stop position selector - what a great feature. This was definitely a wise purchase. Thank you Singer!

I purchased this machine about a month ago. I have used it extensively & love it. I set it up, plugged it in & haven't had to change one setting on it. The ease of use of all the decorative stitches is great. I have used them alot also. There are only 2 things I would change. I would want a little bit better quality walking foot, although the one supplied works just fine it doesn't seem to be the quality of others I have had. The other thing is I cannot get this machine to satin stitch.

I purchased the Confidence Quilter on sale from the moment I set it up I've been in love!
The only drawback I can find so far is getting used to the side foot up/down lever.
One of the things I love is being able to see my bobbin thread before it runs out. I've been a Singer user since early 1970s & my Stylist machine has only needed a few fix-ups, so it was a no brainer to buy the Quilter, with the large bed & the walking foot included - not extra as some manufacturers do. I'm also trying to get used to the needle always stopping in the up position, as I don't baste most of my projects and am adjusting edges as I go - I'm always having to put my needle back down before move fabric around. If you want this machine, it goes on sale 4 or 5 times a year - a great bargain.

I recently bought the 7469 Confidence Quilter as a replacement to a Curvy 8763. Although I loved the Curvy I found I outgrew it quickly and found a few features on it I never quite got use to. After using the Confidence Quilter I found that it feels more natural to me. It's easy to use. Runs smoother and quieter. It's an absolute joy to use and so much fun! Three features I found I like over the Curvy is the automatic needle threader, the presser foot lifter and the needle up or down stop position. This is an absolute must for quilting and other craft projects! I also feel there is more clearance between the machine head and the base at the needle area. Anyone looking for the next step up from a beginners sewing machine should take a look at the Confidence Quilter. The bonus quilting table is quite nice! My Curvy has found a new home to a beginner sewer. She is as thrilled own it as I am to sewing with my Confidence!

I have so enjoyed using this machine. My grand kids have commented on how quiet it is. I love the needle down feature. It is a joy to sew on. I saw the instructor on one of the quilt courses I have online using it and wanted one for myself. I have used Singer sewing machines for 45 years and this one is fabulous.

We bought this machine in September and right away it was the best Singer we have ever owned. First of all, it runs quietly and very smoothly. It is very easy to thread. We love just putting in a number and getting a decorative stitch no problem. We currently have three machines which we use almost daily since we are in the quilting business. At this point, we are considering buying another Confidence Quilter, it is a wonderful sewing machine--great price, great value.

I bought this machine because I have severe manual dexterity problems. I gave my previous Singer away because I couldn't thread the needle. The needle threader sounded great. However, it was really hard to use. I use it, but it is difficult and time consuming. Also, the hook that catches the thread doesn't always go through the needle. This said..the machine is everything I was looking for. I plan to start quilting again and have sewn everything I can find that needs fixed. Fantastic machine.

I have owned 2 sewing machines & wish I'd have purchased this earlier in life rather then the 2 old ones I have. I haven't had any problems using it. Instructions are easy to understand for a beginner to professional seamstress. Easy to operate. Price is right. I really love this machine. I also own a Serger & Embroidery machine.

From a child i made most of my own clothes. My mother taught me on a Singer. As life got busy I stopped. Then I experienced cancer and many health problems which necessitated going on permanent disability and not being able to do even many everyday things like cooking or cleaning. I discovered a ministry making quilts for cancer patients and was excited over the possibility of participating. My husband purchased the Confidence Quilter and I found I could still sew!! There are so few things I can still do. The machine is very responsive and easy to control. It is fairly easy to use all the options included. I can sew whenever I can, 5 min. or 2 hours, anytime at my own pace and at home. This machine has made it possible to go back to a hobby I love when I have lost the ability to do so much. Thank you for coming back, improving and making Singer a more reliable machine. I am also making outfits and doll clothes for my grandchildren. Love this machine.

I've had my sewing machine a little over a year. It's been in for repairs twice & is now sitting in my closet waiting for me to get the nerve to try it again. I believe this machine is smarter than me & would be a great machine for someone who is more experienced than me. I have sewn several fleece blankets & baby quilts with it, & I just love all the options it has, but the quality of this machine is a concern. It is loud when sewing & it makes noises, kerplunk, kerplunk, if using any speed over slow & that's after being repaired twice & refusing to replace the machine. For the price I paid for it I will keep it & use it when I want to use decorative edgings which is a very slow process when using this machine but worth the end results.

Here are the steps for free motion quilting using a drop in table:
1. unplug foot pedal and power cord
2. lift machine out of table
3. remove slide off cover
4. reach around back and drop feed dogs
5. replace slide off cover
6. put machine back into table
7. plug in power and pedal cords.
!!!!!!*******!!!!
I have had a fashion mate for one year and made 8 quilts, including a free motion using darning plate. Love it. I do not know how well this one will do on free motion as I have not started using it yet. The reason I have not started is because the machine is not working properly and I have scheduled to have it replaced (owned one week).
The stitch length is inconsistent 12-15 per inch because the machine's computer is messed up. When I turn it on the default info only reads "00".
The bobbin winder made enough thunkata thunkata noise that I looked at it closely to find rust around the bottom of the spindle.

On looking closer I found rust inside the spindle was coming out. I hope the replacement functions properly, I do like singers in general. I am giving this 5 stars so it will go to the top so others can read it. i am hoping that i can write another review on a working one later.

I am a sewing novice and had a basic machine that I had never used. I (somehow!) decided I wanted to learn how to quilt. I had spent a lot of blood, sweat and tears trying to get the bobbin loaded in the old machine, and was about to give up on quilting. My husband suggested getting a new machine and we bought the Singer Quilting Confidence machine -- within minutes I had it working and after only a couple of weeks I have made a small quilt! If it's possible to love a machine, I love my Singer. Thanks so much!

Great 1st Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Wish It Could Embroider

6 out of 7 people found this helpful.

I purchased this machine to help with spare time. Being a typical man I had never used a sewing machine in my life. I found it easy to operate and fun to use. I have now had it for a little over a week and I have completed 3 projects and working on my 4th. I have made a potholder, tortilla warmer, and a jeans jacket for the dog. I am now 1/2 way finished with the top for my first quilt.
I am very excited and having fun sewing.
My only negatives would be that as a first time sewer the tools are not very clearly marked and I had no idea what all the feet were for and all those little shiny things.
Wish it came with a sample of starter thread. I didn't buy any the day I got the machine so it just sat there on the table for a whole day.

2 years ago I purchased the 7469Q for my birthday. At first I was a little unsettled about the price. I initially purchased it so that I could teach my daughter to sew. After using this machine, I found that my daughter, whom had never sewn before, could use this machine like she had ben sewing her whole life. I introduced her to the world of quilting with this machine and found it was worth EVERY PENNY! She now enjoys quilting just as much if not more than I do. Further testament to the ease of use of Singer machines...she purchased the Futura CE 250 for me for Christmas. I will continue to purchase Singer products and so will my daughter. I've never had any problems with my first machine and am just now taking it in for a tune up. I'll be handing my older machine over to her so that she may enjoy it just as much as I have. Again, I have just good things to say about Singer products. Thank you Singer!

Upscale Beginner Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Manual Missing Information

7 out of 8 people found this helpful.

I have had the machine for 3 months now. I have tried out about 90% of all the features. I like the machine so far. It is not as quiet as I thought that it would be, but I think that it is a good machine overall. PROS-I love all the extra feet and the extension bed, that gave it the extra scoring points with me. I really like the digtial selection buttons. I also like the button for needle down and the twin needle functions. This is truly a plus. CONS-What really hit a sour note with me was that the manual is for the 7469 and does not touch on the 7469Q features. So you have to figure it out on your own. I think with a better made manual the sewing machine would be that much better. Also, the drop/raise feed dog is located at the back of the machine. Not sure why this mechanism could not have been put on the front or even the right side of the machine.

I purchased this machine about 6 months ago. I had a 15+ yr old Singer that while still works was not giving me enough options for quilting that I just started. I did not want to spend a ton of money but did want something that would offer more than 4 stitch options like my old machine. This definately has room for my skill level to grow.
I have had bobbin issues with it since I got it, I was told by the woman at the store that if you wind the bobbin and go to fast it heats up the plastic bobbin and causes it to warp making it impossible to get it off the post without breaking. So now I wind slowly and it seems to have resolved it-not ideal but I can live with it.

The auto needle threader is sort of a joke as well, it takes longer to figure out how to get it to work than it does if you thread it the old fashioned way.

Today for no reason the foot pedal is not working. There is nothing wrong with the cord that I can see and it has been working fine up until now. Of course I am trying to finish a quilt for a Christmas present so it chose now to break.

I have also discoved that per the Singer website there is no authorized dealer in VA which does not make me happy.
Overall I have been pretty happy with it but clearly the quality of the newer machines does not come close to that of the older machines.

I wanted to learn to do machine quilting as a hobby. I have not had any trouble with this machine. Learning about the feet and how to use the machine's stitches seems to be the hardest thing so far. As far as regular sewing, it does great. I read other reviews and found their answers helpful. I would have liked a more detailed list of enclosed items and an idea how to use them. I read the book and went on the site to find more information. I am happy I bought the machine and look forward to sewing more.

For the first few months, the machine worked great. Now, in less than 6 months I am looking at tripple digit repairs when I have done a minimal amount of sewing. I haven't even needed to put a new needle on it yet.

I wish I would have read the reviews. This is the last singer I will ever purchase. Now, if only I could get my money back on this one.

I also am disappointed in the free embroidary sewing. The instructions to the other reviews say the directions are on page 12. I tried those directions and they don't work. After lowering the feed dog, I still can't move the work piece around. I tried removing the foot altogether and still can't freely move the work. I have been sewing for over 50 years and this is the first machine that I cannot free embroidary sew.
I also had difficulty with the blind hem stitch. It skipped many stiches. I had to redo it multiple times. Straight sewing worked well as did zizzag, multistich zigzaz and double overlocking stitch.
