I grew up sewing on my mom's old Singer machine and finally got my own. The Curvy is as smooth as butter and makes sewing so easy. It handles denim and thick materials no problem. Spinning the bobbin, threading the machine and needle and backstitching are so easy! The picture makes the machine look small but it is a very solid sturdy piece of machinery. I told my mom that even though her old Singer is still sewing along, she should treat herself to the Curvy.

Disappointed in Singer Product

After only 8 months, and warranty service, the bobbin case still pops out and jams the machine. Thinking about buying a different brand.

Poor Sewing Quality

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality

I have had my Curvy for 3 months now. I love the looks and the features of the machine but feel the quality of the stitches are lacking. It seems to skip a lot of stitches. I have notices the stitches ravel a lot even when back stitched. The stitches just do not seem to lock even when customizing the tension. I have tried using the auto feature for tension and it does not work to my satisfaction either. I have made approx 4 quilts in the time I have had the machine. Yesterday I wanted to work on the current one and the foot pedal does not work. It appears the actual socket on the machine the plug goes into is defective. All in all I am fairly disappointed in the quality of this SINGER product.

I returned the Curvy 8763 one week after I bought it. The presser foot handle broke and I could not move the foot up or down. The motor sounded strained when sewing. Poor quality.

Back to sewing!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

Cons: Some Parts Are Poorly Made

16 out of 18 people found this helpful.

I haven't sewn anything for over 20 years...my children grew up and I gave away my grandmother's cabinet Singer. I wanted to get back into sewing for my grandchildren. The fancier, computerized sewing machines intimidated me, so I looked for something more familiar. I found the Curvy and couldn't be more pleased!
Pros: Easy to thread (great for my 'older' eyes), easy buttonhole tool, convenient CD tutorials, easy bobbin threading, good choices of basic embroidery stitches
Cons: Some frequently used parts feel flimsy rather than sturdy, needle threader doesn't always work the first time, the foot pedal moves around a lot and doesn't always respond quickly

Overall, I'm excited to get back to sewing and look forward to putting my new Curvy to a workout!

It threads easily, sews a bit and then it loops. I thread it again, sews fine and begins to loop. I need to sew and not thread and re-thread the machine. The stitches are poor quality. The zigzag and the other decorative stitches just loop -- overall not a good reliable machine.

A dream machine!

I had decided with the tough economy I would make my Christmas presents. I began sewing back in July...I have completed 4 rag quilts, over 40 neck warmers, 100 's of coasters....the machine is a great buy for the price and lived up to my expectations....I love the ease of threading
and changing colors of thread, also the variety of stitches at a touch of a button!

I have read all the reviews on this machine. I don't understand the problems listed. I have used my machine since last Christmas without a single problem. My last amchine was not a singer and this machine is a dream compared to it. I actually love sewing again.

Grateful for Service Warranty

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Poor Quality

I missed the 10-day window to return my 8763 Curvy to the store by 4 days. I'll have to keep the machine and use the 30-day warranty to fix the machine's timing. It only took one jam to break a needle, mess up the timing, and wear out the plastic gears.

I really hate to give it a bad review because I have always had Singer Machines, but this one has not worked well for me at all. I have not been able to complete one sewing project since I got it as a gift last March. Something seems to always be wrong with the tension and it just sews gobs of thread on the underside of the fabric. I use the correct thd. and needles for the material I am using. I just tried to repair some jeans using a needle for that purpose with heavier thd. for denim and it was a disaster. The thd. all balled up down around the bobbin and I had to unscrew the plate to cut everything out. Any suggestions, I would really like to get to sewing some nice xmas gifts and things for myself and home. Thank you very much!

Waste of my Money

Pros: None

Cons: Poor Quality, Brand New Yet Useless!!!!

The machine is awful. It will not let me lift the foot because the lever is stuck. So I can not exchange one
foot for another. I sewed s blouse but can't finish because
there is no way to sew the buttonholes. The place where
I bought it want $100 just to look at it. Now what do I do??

I grew up using Singer machines so when the time came for a new machine I saw the Curvy 8763 at Joann's and liked what I saw. Wish I had never bought it; jams all the time, beeps at me constantly. Spend more time removing bad stitching and redoing. I will no longer buy Singer machines; very disappointed.

Good Basic Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use

Cons: Needle Threader

8 out of 9 people found this helpful.

I got this machine for myself to start out with. I really like the machine but I have found one problem with this machine. The one problem I have had is that the needle threader does not work with any needles other than Universal Needles. I have been taking a quilting class and need to use Sharps, but those needles won't work with the needle threader. Other than that, I love this machine!!!

Every time I try to sew, it loops, the bobbin pops. The tension no matter how much I try, its off. I had only used it about four times and I stopped functioning, all the light went on. Sent it out to fix, and its doing the same thing. worst machine ever, don't recommend it, SAVE your money. Never again will I buy singer $300 gone to waste!

I have had my Singer Curvy for a month now and am really enjoying it! I was really impressed with the self threader. I would spend almost an hour threading my old machine. It runs well, has great attachments and more are available. I have my grandmothers' old Singer Treadle and I found that the attachments from the treadle (75 years old!) work perfectly on my new Curvy. Thanks, Singer. You are the best!

I find this machine very difficult to operate.
It's supposed to be automatic threader, waste time trying to do this.
It WILL NOT do the satin stitch, which is one of the main reasons I bought it.

Love My New Sewing Machine!!

I am 54 years old, been sewing since I was 8 yrs old. I love to sew, but have worked with two wonderful machines. I have a Singer Featherweight and a cabinet model, made in 1952, both Singers. They have served me wonderfully all these years. This winter, I finally broke down and bought a Singer Curvy. I absolutely love it!! It makes mending so much easier. I still intend to use my cabinet model though but wanted you to know how much I love this new machine!!

I love this machine! I used to sew on my mom's really old Elna, and the Singer Curvy is soooo much easier to use! I took the free class that was offered to learn how to use the machine (which I really recommend). I've only had this machine for a few months and have already made quite a few projects.

Happiest Sewing Experience I Have Had!

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

I was sewing within minutes of taking it out of the box.
The quick start directions had me up and running with out a hitch unlike my last machine that took forever to get just the bobbin wound and the machine threaded! I plan on doing a lot more sewing now that I don't have to fight the machine anymore. Wonderful!

Love this machine!

After owing a Brother machine for 20+ years, I am very pleased to say that my Singer Curvy is GREAT! It was very easy to use (even without using the included DVD). The drop-in bobbin is a breeze as is the threading. It took a while to use the self-feed for the needle but I finally got it after about three tries. I sew pretty regularly now, creating handbags, accessories, and have moved on to clothes. I have recommended this machine to others.

It's a okay machine if you don't mind the bobbin holder to pop out at you. Try fixing that and it still did it. I had to return a machine that I was very excited to get.

Great for kids and simple use

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Great For Kids

Cons: Maybe It Won't Last As Long As Some

3 out of 3 people found this helpful.

I don't sew much so all I was using was my grandmother's old machine that just goes forwards and has a knee pedal. But my daughters were becoming interested in sewing and my oldest started to take machine sewing classes at JoAnn's Fabrics and my grandmother's sewing machine wasn't so friendly. I did research online and then when there was a sale I went to JoAnn's in Northridge California to buy a machine. The sales woman was great and helped me buy the perfect user friendly machine. My 10-year old daughter watched the How-To DVD and then by herself loaded a bobbin, threaded the machine, and then used the self-threader. I was told it wasn't as hardy as some of the more expensive machines and wouldn't last as long as some, but it's VERY user friendly and perfect for the occasional user. In fact I volunteered at the school when the 5th graders had to make pillows for their chairs and some of the fabric was so thick that those parents with older more expensive machines were breaking needles right and left. But not me. It kept right on going...

Good Machine

Overall Rating:

2 out of 3 people found this helpful.

The machine is wonderful and works well. I enjoy the stitch features, self-threading and buttonholing. However, the footer feed plate is difficult to put back in. I finally had to take it back to the store, they couldn't get it in, they waited for the repairman. Turns out the little hook on the bottom was bent. It works fine now, but makes me anxious that it will occur again.

Huge disappointment.

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality, Expensive, Parts To Dont Function Properly.

I was so excited when I bought this. It has a good motor, not too noisy, sews relatively smoothly, and had features I liked. HOWEVER, I have several complaints about this machine.
1. The bobbin winder has not worked from day one.
2. When cleaning the needle plate, a metal notch on the back of it snapped off without me applying any more pressure than one would use in simply holding the thing.

I've had this machine for 3 months. I have contacted Singer 3 times over the last few months to correct the problem, but I do not have 2 hours at a time to wait on hold and hey havent responded to my emails. I thought this was supposed to be a good company with superior products, which is why I chose Singer in the first place. My experience has been extremely frustrating. I will likely never purchase a Singer product again.

Handy features, but . . . .

Overall Rating:

0 out of 1 people found this helpful.

Has some handy features and relatively simple to use. In the second month of ownership during the third use, the needle broke while sewing 3 layers of material together while making a comforter. I replaced the needle with one of the extra needles that were supplied with the machine according to the instructions, but the needle apparently doesn't go far enough up into the shaft that holds the needle in place after several tries by me and my husband. In the lowest sewing position, the needle strikes the plate underneath the bobbin holder. There is no Singer service center in my state and instead of boxing it up and paying to send it out of state for repair under the warranty, I have located a gentleman nearby who said he would take a look at it. Hoping this is just a one-time 'glitch' and that I will get lots of future good use out of it after it is repaired.
