My Choice of Machines.

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, A Perfect Compliment To The Singer Ce-150

Cons: Feed Dogs Shift During Shipping

I bought the Singer 7470 for a compliment to my CE-150. I purchased my CE-150 on October 15, 2008. August of 2009 I went searching for another machine that would have the features, number of stitches including decorative stitches, and the price that I wanted in a machine. It took me a few months and a lot research to decide on the Singer 7470. I purchased my Singer 7470 on December 2, 2009. What impressed me on this machine was the variety of stitches, including the Alphabet, Numbers, and all the coma, quotation marks, periods, etc. as well as the choice of needle up or down. The ease of use, variety of stitches, choice of mirror image, choice to use a twin needle. When you choose a stitch it comes up in the window showing you options such as mirror image, twin needle, stitch length, stitch width. I love playing around with the different options that each stitch has. I had done a stitch out sheet of all the different stitches. My Singer 7470 runs smooth and quiet. But I must advise you with the following - When I got it home and started sewing with it - the machine made a loud clicking/clacking sound. This was due to the feed dogs not lining up with the foot plate. You will need to check the lever in the back of the machine that lowers and raises the feed dogs. I first lowered the feed dogs and then raised the feed dogs and then manually turned the wheel handle toward me. The feed dogs raised all the way in the up position. Then the machine sewed perfectly. I figured that the lever had shifted during shipping. When you get your machine home best that you reset your feed dogs first. Then you will enjoy this wonderful machine.

I've had a few machines in my life time, but never one that operated so wonderfully. It runs smoothly on all fabrics. When threaded it stays threaded, Never breaks the thread. The tension never needs adjusting. I've owned this machine 3 years. And I still love it.

Another winning machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, A Good Weight - Doesn't Jump On Table., Good Lighting, Sews Quieter Than 7466

Cons: Wish It Had Continuous Reverse Switch

25 out of 30 people found this helpful.

I purchased a 7466 three years ago, because it was the most features for the price I could afford at that time. I loved this machine so much! When I could, I purchased the 7470 recently, as I wanted more stitches for crazy quilting. I love this machine as well, it has better light than the 7466 and lots of really fun stitches. It is easy to learn and use. Next I am going for a Singer CE-350 embroidery machine.

Confidence 7470

Overall Rating:

Pros: Great Features

Cons: Poor Quality, Timing Keeps Going Out., Stops Grabbing The Bobbin Thread, Huge Waste Of Time Waiting For The Repairs, Very Disappointed!

24 out of 31 people found this helpful.

I was so excited to get a newer Singer. My old one has been a fantastic machine for the last 20 years!
I bought this one because obviously it had many more options, fancy stitches and all the good stuff.
The first week I had it, the top thread stopped picking up the bobbin thread. After hours and my failed attempt to fix it...I sent it in. When it was finally running again, I was told that the timing was off. I sewed about eight more times and this morning? Yep apparently the timing is off again.
I am very disappointed. Even the dealer said that the lower price models such as this have cheaper plastic parts and he sees this all the time. I can't afford a super expensive machine so now what do I do? NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE!!!

I recently had to send my 39 year old singer touch and sew to the repair shop.I decided to treat myself to a new machine. I was concerned about price and quality and performance.I narrowed it done to the 7470 confidence. When it came i was worried that it wouldn't work for what i use a machine for. Great surprise it worked great.I made two dog beds with it. It went over the three ply fleece without any trouble. It is a very good machine.Lightweight and easy to use. It took me awhile to get use to threading the bobbin on the top. My old one did it under the foot feed. I would recommend this machine to all. The price was not that expensive either.

7470 Confidence

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, Easy To Thread, Simple But Quality

Cons: Expensive, Feature Pannel Somewhat Difficult To Understand

I love this machine. It has given me the opportunity to practice sewing more efficiently. It is easy to thread and\or change setting, so I have more time to sew rather than dinking with the machine.
I would like to learn more about applicable accessories like different footers and how to use more of the machines settings for monogramming and automatic threading, which I have yet to master.

I have had my 7470 for almost a year now. It is not the first Singer I have owned but it certainly is the best so far. It is easy to use and has been able to tackle every project I've done up to now. It is well worth the investment!

My husband gave my the 7470 Confidence 2 years ago for Christmas. I can't tell you how many curtains, bedspreads, table linens, and decorative pillows I have made since then. Confidence is the perfect name for the machine. My creativity level is at an all time high! Good going Singer.

It's been several years since I was able to sew, my mother had a Singer and that's what I wanted. We picked this one out and brought it home yesterday....I love it...The feed dogs had to reshift into place from shipping but other than that, she was ready to run!!!! Cool, I have all ready made some pillows for practice!!! Thanks Singer!

I had purchased this model several years ago, and then traded it in on another brand. I missed this machine so much, I again purchased this model and am very pleased with it. It is extremely easy to use; the manual is especailly well written, and the directions easy to follow.

A good medium quality machine; unfortunately the plastic gears throw the timing off with little provocation...and don't even think about sewing heavy fabrics.

Robust and straightforward

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

1 out of 2 people found this helpful.

This is a high-quality machine, that is easy to use. While there are a large number of complex features, the machine is well-designed to allow access to the basic features straightaway, and keeps the complexity only for those occasions when you want to use it.

This is a straight-forward enough machine that a beginner will have no trouble getting started, but robust and full of enough features that at least a mid-level person as myself has all the features needed.

Great machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality, If You Get Stuck And Can't Figure Out How To Get Back To Straight Stitching You Just Turn It Off And On And You're Set To Go. , It Has A Surge Protector Feature On It But Highly Rcommended To Unplug Machine From Wall When Not Using It And Plug Into A Surge Protector

Cons: It's Hard When You First Get It To Learn About All The Stitches So You Have To Read The Book And Just Really Try Them All Out And Practice Changing The Various Stitches, But Once You Learn It, It Is Very Easy.

Love the Confidence sewing/quilting electronic machine. It easily goes from thick to thin material with no problems. The decorative stitches are very consistent and even. The tension is the best I've found on any Singer that I've had. It changes easily with the buttons from one pattern to another. I would highly recommend this machine even to an expert sewer as it does everything you want. It works great for quilting also. Really love this machine and the price was very reasonable. K-Mart has a special deal where the dealer came in and sold 3 different machines, was very informative, demonstrated all 3 machines, answered every question and w/o a doubt really knew his sewing machines. Their service is great, they are located in Florida and have a BBB rating that is great also. It came with extra attachments not mentioned on the box and there were extras in the box also. The DVD was nice to learn how to use machine and set it up. Stil haven't conquered the needle threader but have to review the DVD. It has 2 cutters on the machine, very easy to thread and wind bobbins and has J bobbins which are easy to find anywhere that are Singer bobbins. I am very happy with the price, quality and features of this machine!!!

I've been enjoying my machine since I've gotten it (not long ago). I like the many computerized. stitches it has and that I'm able to change to a different stitch right in the middle of a project, if I want, with no hesitation. It's a really great machine.

Finally Enjoying This Machine

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, High Quality, Versatile

Although I purchased this in 2008, I didn't start using it until 2013. I don't know why I waited, as it truly is an easy machine to use. Although there are a lot of stitches and functions, there aren't too many to make me overwhelmed. I've been taking weekly sewing classes since summer 2013 and I'm even working on my first quilt, a TShirt quilt that is 82 x 90 and this machine handles it all. Sometimes I get a little frustrated at tension issues, but I'm sure it is more about me than about the machine.
