I have been sewing over 50 years and bought this machine to see why so many people "dis" the brand.
First thing I did was to follow the steps in the manual and tried each feature of the machine.
Next, I hemmed a pair of jeans using a jeans needle. SWEET! No hesitation as the machine hummed right along. At the flat-felled seams, I did use a "hump-jumper" to keep the presser foot level as the machine stitched through 12 layers of denim (this gadget is also needed when I use my expensive sewing machines).
The pressure adjustment for the presser foot is a plus for any sewing machine let alone an inexpensive one. This adjustment allows flawless stitching of sheer as well as thick fabrics.
The 1507 is light weight should you need to carry it and comes with a sturdy cover.
A very good buy for a beginner as well as the "seasoned" sewing enthusiast.

This is my third Singer sewing machine. Learned to sew at my mother's instruction on a Singer. She had two during the duration of my instruction. I've previously brought new and owned two. Have sewed off and on for 50 years.
As far as a sewing machine goes, you can't beat a Singer. I've been without a machine for 20 years due to lifestyle. Found I had a need for one more and more.
I couldn't pass up the price. I am extremely happy.
I recently ordered a Singer sewing machine from Montgomery Wards. It was the 8-stitch#1507,it is a nice basic machine for the beginner sewer, for basic sewing etc.,however there is a defect in the threading of the machine, the thread take-up lever does not go up all the way like it should so that the user has to manipulate the thread through the slotted eye, this should NOT be. this is a defect that Singer should rectify asap .Also, too many scuff marks on the machine, this should NOT be.
This is my first machine, and i learned a fair amount off of it, and had a good time doing so, but after about four months the timing is off and i am constantly breaking upper threads. the frustration factor far outweighs the reasonable price.
This was my very first sewing machine and i think it was quite a good starter machine. I recommend getting a simple machine like this when youre still a beginner and dont really know the basics to sewing with a machine . its been almost 4 years now and i still find it quite useful. it may not be the best one out there, but it sure helps beginners gain knowledge on how to properly use sewing machines and what they can do.
I am a beginner, but I have had constant problems with this machine. It says it should work straight out of the box with no adjustments, yet I have had it constantly jam, 2 broken needles, nesting, and I have to rethread constantly! I'm sure I am doing everything correctly because I take this machine with me to a class with a teacher who has sewn for 30 years and she has even tried to adjust my machine but it has constant problems! Cheap parts and cheap machine.
This is my first sewing machine. I think it is great. Easy to thread, good tight stitches. My grandmother owns a singer sewing machine. Its what she has used for many years.I try to follow her.
Very excited about getting a wonderful sewing machine. I do like to make things in my spare time. It would be nice to make table clothes for my scentsy tables.
I received this machine for Christmas (my first ever sewing machine) and needless to say I am totally sewing illiterate. The DVD was wonderful. I had the machine and bobbin threaded and ready to go in no time. This no-nonsense machine is perfect for beginners like me. No stress, no frustration. Just set the stitch and go. As a matter of fact, last night I made my very first project - a sewing machine cover ! What fun !
