Tension dials

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features

Cons: Tension Dials Could Be Improved.

The tension dials are hard to turn and 2 of them are falling apart. Love this machine, but would like to get those dials fixed.

Love my machine!

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, Easy To Thread By Tying On New Thread, Loosening Tension And Pulling New Thread Through - Just Like The Instructions Mention! , Manual Is Very Easy To Understand. Dvd Is Good To Follow Along With Too.

This is a very good home machine. I have been a sewer for over 30 years and have used sergers before; home and industrial models. I read the manual first and watched the DVD as I went along with it, to learn it's capabilities before starting my projects. I have used this for making clothing, grocery bags and draperies so far. Say Good Bye fabric stash!!!

PURCHASED AS BACKUP; USING IT THE MOST

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, High Quality, The Price On Amazon.com Could Not Be Beat

I purchased this machine as a backup to my Singer QuantumLock 14T957DC, a 5-thread combination overlock, chain stitch, and coverstitch. It was getting a little long in the tooth -- still running fine -- but I wanted to have a backup. Also wanted to set up one machine to do the 3- and 4-thead work while the other was set up to do the more advanced work. I have had the Pro Finish machine for about a month and it is fine. I had a little trouble with setting the tensions because it was set up for woven fabric and I was working on a ponte knit. I finally got the tensions set to look as good as the woven sample. My older machine has a little container to catch scraps and this one does not. Other than that, I am very satisfied.

Not Happy

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Poor Customer Service For Fixing It.

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

I have sewn for 37 years. I purchased a singer because I am used to having a good quality product. I have never owned a serger but previously worked in a factory with a serger. I purchased mine in March of 2013 and began using it about 4 months ago...just taking it out of the box for the first time. I used it and tried to adjust the stitch length, and my machine seized up...I sent it away and it was returned with the same issue. it had not been fixed. I was told that they will call singer to ask what to do...in the meantime I am without my machine...and out 180 bucks. this machine is not the quality I have come to know in a singer.

Great machine!

Overall Rating:

After reading other reviews I was a little hesitant to purchase this serger but it was a good price so I decided to go for it. I was pleasantly surprise at the ease of learning how to thread the machine. The DVD included was excellent. This is my first serger so I can't compare it to the ease of threading/using others; however, the hardest part for me was actually threading the two needles. I am right- handed and the placement of the needles versus other parts made it a little difficult to get to the needles' eye to thread. Using the included tweezers helped, and after a couple times I found it much easier. Noise level was another issue I was concerned about but it doesn't make any more noise than my sewing machine. So far I'm loving it.

worst serger ever

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

1 out of 1 people found this helpful.

his is worst server ever. I had a singer for 25 years and it work great. I am so disappointed in this one. My old died and needed a new one and bought this one and am so sorry I did. Threading the looper is horrible. This so noisy, sounds like metal hitting metal.cuts my material not even. I am disabled and had to save my money for several months to purchase a new one. I would to take it back.

Very disappointed

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Few Features, Complicated

I was excited about getting a serger. I have used Singer machines for 50+ years and thought the Serger would be in line with the sewing machines as far as quality. It has been a total waste of money. One has to be a contortionist to be able to thread the serger. I wish I had gone with another brand.

Hours & Hours

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features

Cons: Awful Instructions

I have spent the better part of 3 days trying to get the machine ready to go for my first stitch. Finally got it this morning. I am not a novice seamstress but this was frustrating. My true observation is the instructions are the worst I think I have ever come across and I mean ever. My frustration now is I need to change the needle position and the instructions give you no idea how to do this. Cute little half moons, but no idea how to make that happen.

Wow

Overall Rating:

Understand, I have wanted a serger since back in the late '60's! Finally broke down yesterday at JoAnn's and bought the Singer ProFinish. The dvd makes working this machine SO simple! Wished I had done this a long time ago! I have even changed all four threads, which I always thought would be way too complicated for me.I have sewn both side seams on a pullover blouse and did the rolled hem. Almost cried, it was so exciting.

I have a couple hours experience with sewing and it was with this serger. I read the reviews about how hard it is to thread and i found it easy if you pay attention to the instructions and think.

once i got it threaded it seems to work like a charm. Its going to make my intended projects a breeze

The worst serger I have used.

Overall Rating:

Cons: Complicated

2 out of 3 people found this helpful.

My White serger was broken so I went shopping for another. The Singer ProFinish looked like a good machine and was on sale. I have never used a harder to thread machine. To thread it I have to almost contort my body to get the threads to go through the guides. And once it is threaded I just hope that the thread it is in the tension coil correctly. I have had to unpick to many times I have lost count. If I could take the machine back to the store for a refund I would.

This serger has not disappointed.. It takes some initial patience to get the hang of threading it, but once that's sorted out, it works great! I'm so glad I got this serger.. It's highly recommended.

This is my third serger and by far the easiest to use. No problem at all , I have used servers for many years and I remember how hard they were to thread and keep threaded. Sews smooth and I can't wait to try the rolled hem.

Overall Rating:

I have been spent almost two weeks to figure out why the presser bar lifter does not left and does not come down my brand new 14CG754 ProFinish Seger. There is not Trouble Shooting on this one.. I live in the State that does not have Singer Service Center. Can some one please help. Also this machine is very complaint to use and tread. I trust the brand and hope to get solution

New and fun tool

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

3 out of 4 people found this helpful.

This is a reasonably priced serger that is perfect for a beginner. It has lots of options that make it seem like a more expensive one. This is the first serger I have owned and I am very happy with it. It is easy to use and takes very little time to learn how to use it. I was expecting this to be MUCH more complicated than it is. It has a nice assortment of features: 1 or 2 needles, stich width adjustment, option to not use the knife, and the color coded threading guides are fantastic for a beginner. I don't see myself outgrowing this very soon.

Good Price but Difficult to Thread & Set

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated, Hard To Thread; Difficult To Get Stitches To Work, Especially 4-thread

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

Price/value is okay, but this machine is VERY difficult to thread and get the stitch differential/tension set. I CANNOT (after MANY tries) get the 4-thread stitch to work! Will try customer support but not optimistic after reading other reviews about non-response.

Little serger

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Complicated, I Suggest You Add Better Accessories

4 out of 5 people found this helpful.

This is a nice second serger. My major complaint is that the throat opening is so small it's impossible to get your fingers in there to thread the machine easily. I am a small person with very small hands and it's still impossible. Also, I'm not too crazy about where the cutting knife is located. Feels too cramped. It does sew nicely, but it takes a long time to set up and thread.

I am so frustrated with this serger. I had a Singer Serger for a long time, but it wasnt working,so I ordered this one through eBay. Since my first one last for more than 20 years without problems I decided to buy Singer. It was very hard to thread but I finally got it, but this serger was giving me to much frustation. I am not easy to give up, but I had this job to finish on a time line and I was not going to be able to finish it since this serger was not working. I had to borrow one from my friend in order to finish that job.I thread and thread so many times and watched the video, but it still doesnt work. It doesnt do the stiches. Looks like it is the timing I am going to try to get it replaced since it has warranty. I am so disappointed, I really wonder if I have a lemon. I would not recommend it to anybody

I have had a serger before of a different kind, and I was not happy with it at all, but since getting my singer serger I have become very happy, I do find threading the needles to be the only tricky part to the threading of the machine, as for it been loud, my old one was louder, so I fine this one to be fine.

Not Easy to Set Tension for the Best Stitches

Overall Rating:

Cons: Complicated

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

I visited the Singer website to review the experience of others with this product because I am so frustrated with the results I a getting. As experienced by a previous user, I too have spent the last two days of my life attempting to set the tension on this serger and still can't get it to sew stitches properly. I have sewn "expertly" for the last 45 years and find this serger less than stellar. My other Singer Serger is housed at my vacation retreat and still performs perfectly and I can make adjustments. I purchased the ProFinish as a replacement for home use. I am so disappointed that changing the tension to sew seams is so bad, I really wonder if I have a lemon. I don't give up easily and have never had a problem fixing or maintaining any of my sewing machines but this one is just bad. I will have to replace this one because it just doesn't do the job it was purchased for. It doesn't even serge knit fabric correctly!

First time using a serger

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, Easy To Use, High Quality

6 out of 8 people found this helpful.

Please keep in mind I have never before used a serger. That said, I can't believe I didn't I get one sooner!!!! The instructions for threading were easy to follow, (the thought of threading a serger was the biggest concern I had), and because it came pre-threaded, I was able to see up close what it was supposed to look like before I unthreaded it so I could practice. It was simple enough I got it the first time. I love it so much that I have sewn more in the month I've had it than I did in the past 10 years!

Not happy

Overall Rating:

Cons: Impossible To Adjust Tension, Very Noisy

17 out of 21 people found this helpful.

I have been sewing over 45 years. This is my second Singer serger, so I have experience using this type of machine. I have NEVER had so much difficulty getting the tension right. Have wasted countless hours, and finally had to go back to the store where I purchased it and have the supervisor thread and set the tension....it took three trips to the store...she set it for me the first time, then I went home and changed the thread and went back after trying to set it up for HOURS and HOURS. The second trip, a salesperson couldn't get it right, either, so I had to go back when the supervisor was in. Unfortunately, I bought the machine in Spring and only used it a few times before putting it away until Fall, so it was out of warrantee or I would have returned it. Also very noisy. Would NOT recommend this purchase to anyone.

Two repairs in first two months

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality

8 out of 10 people found this helpful.

I had only had the machine for two months and had to take it to a service center twice already to reset the timing. It was constantly putting out poor stitches and skipping stitches. I wrote the company about my dissatisfaction and never received a reply. I ended up buying a better serger from another company and this ne just sits in my closet after only 2 months of owning it. Very displeased with this product.

A pretty good serger

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use

14 out of 17 people found this helpful.

I have used a serger before and this one performs well. Like others have stated before me, it is a bit loud. The foot doesn't go up very high so when I was sewing 2 fleece pieces, the top piece was actually slipping off the bottom. I haven't tried to rethread it yet, but sergers aren't easy to thread so I'll cross that bridge when I have to. I imagine I'll just knot the colors on and try to pull them through. This was bought as a gift for me on cyber monday and I feel it was well worth the $150.! This one will do fine until I inherit my grandmothers REALLY nice one!

Good for the price

We got this machine to test out my using a serger to help with production. So this was purchased as part of my professional studio. I admit it WAS tricky to learn. So many variables at once. But once I got the hang of it, it was easy!

You MUST MUST MUST read the instructions. Its not like a regular sewing machine at all. If you have never used a serger, please realize that it is a different animal.

It is a bit noisy.
We did have to buy thread also, cheap cones from Joannes wont work.

So far so good

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Easy To Use, High Quality

5 out of 6 people found this helpful.

This is my first serger and my first experience with one. I find it does what it's supposed to do and after the initial learning curve, I find it easy to use. Threading was a little tricky for me at first, but my current machine is a 1940's singer and all new machines are tricky to me. :)
I use it predominantly for rolled hems and it's working out wonderfully. I also use it to serge the edges of linen so it doesn't ravel so terribly.

Commercial Grade Serger

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value, Great Features, High Quality, Extremely Helpful Dvd, Guide On Machine To Help You Thread It

Cons: A Little Loud, Hard To Thread

17 out of 20 people found this helpful.

I really like this machine, and it's my first serger. But as some of the other reviews said, it is a little loud. Threading the bottom compartment is difficult, but everything is color-coded and there is a guide on the machine which is helpful. But they only give you a pair of tweezers to help you get the thread through the tiny holes on the loopers.
The DVD explains everything. There is a lot of repetition in it, but it is a very good guide and made so much sense.
I got my serger off simplicity.com where I found it to be the cheapest. I hope this review was helpful! God bless!

Needs better way to change needles

Overall Rating:

Pros: Good Value

Cons: Hard To Change Needles

6 out of 8 people found this helpful.

The actual sewing does a good job. The threading was not difficult after having a new owner's class from the dealer that I purchased the machine from and practiced a few times and showed me a few of her tips and tricks. I would give the product many more stars just on performance However changing and replacing needles is way too difficult. I have spent my entire afternoon attempting to replace a needle and the machine now sits with three threads. Will try again when ready for more frustration.

This is my first serger and I am just amazed by it!! I had been reluctant to buy a serger and now I wish I would've purchased one a very long time ago!! It didn't take much time for the salesperson to explain the basic operation and demonstrate the threading. I highly recommend this serger for it's value and ease of use!!

14CG754

Overall Rating:

Cons: Poor Quality, Tension Impossible

31 out of 36 people found this helpful.

I have spent the last two days of my life attempting to set the tension on this serger. I have sewn professionally for over 30 years and used many sergers of all brands. My trusty Singer serger finally died and I purchased this one. The bottom looper is almost impossible to thread once the thread breaks without taking the plate off and literally after two days still have not been able to set the tension to any acceptable level on polyester satin. I'm afraid this one will have to go back.
